Is it OK to use backlink software like Backlinkx?
-
With all of Google's updates on backlinks, can SEO's still use backlink software like Backlinkx or others?
Is there a better way?
-
BTW - The better way is to use PR outlets, proper use of Social Media, Use of Video SEO, Blog Commenting etc...
-
I looked into this route as well and from all my research on here and across other SEO resources I would say it's not worth the time and effort. Better to get 5-10 high pr links than 100 backlinks from 1 or 0 pr sites...

Just don't do it.
-
Don't use backlink software - as Modbargains pointed out it's all high volume, low quality links that will do nothing for your backlink profile and more than likely hurt you in the long run.
There is a much better way - high quality content creation and ethical, authoritative link building.
These posts should really help you figure out some alternative strategies, here's Jon Cooper's post on link building strategies (definitely worth reading):
http://pointblankseo.com/link-building-strategies
and my own SEOMoz post on content creation:

Hope that helps you!

Since I work with clients in the law and medical fields, I guess I have to be real careful. I guess it make sense to only comment in your niche but I could see that there could be some grey areas.
If I'm a dentist and comment on a forum about an event I'm helping to sponsor is that bad?
If I have a link on a little league website cause I sponsor them, is that bad... it's not my niche.
Now poker sites and websites with .ru and other country urls, yea I can see that and I have run into clients who have a ton of those backlinks. Think I'll go the route of niche websites first.

To answer your question: Yes. You can use backlink software.
Should you use them? No.
generally most backlink software will backlink to non-relevant sites with low domain scores, which usually have been spammed to death.
If you want your site(s) to rank poorly or even de-index, this is a great way of doing it.
Other ways of getting in trouble:
commenting on forums
posting on blogs
using exact keywords in anchor texts
So what works:
being an active member in forums or blogs related to your niche topic
look for high domain authority sites in your niche and ask to be a contributor..just don't let it go against google's policies.
Create content that engages users to want to share, whether it's informative or interesting.

Is Infographic Distribution Still OK?
Hi Mozzers. I'm designing an infographic to be used in conjunction with a report we've compiled. It's a really strong story backed up with good data. We're planning to do a bit of PR activity around it to hopefully get it in some very authoratitve publications. On top of this, to maximise the backlinks that we're able to build I've been considering posting it on some (possibly all of the infographic sites) listed on Paddy Moogans blog post about infographic distribution. Would this provide any benefit or is it likely to get me penalised in some way? Are there any tips/advice you would give to do this? i.e. link to a mixture of different pages, use non spammy anchor text? Should I limit how many infographic sites I distribute it too? Is there a maximum total I should consider or even a maximum number of infographic links I should build per week/month? Anything else I've not considered? Thanks in advance David

Which Backlinks to Disavow?
I am a site owner just getting to learn more about managing things myself after outsourcing SEO to a firm a year back (they stopped all activities about 8 months back). The question I have is about disavowing the low quality links. After collecting all the data from many sites on the basis of this helpful posting - (http://moz.com/blog/ultimate-guide-to-google-penalty-removal), I am now left with around 2,800 back-links. I discovered most of the bad ones using ahrefs and majestic (and Google webmaster did not show many of the bad links). In fact, in the very first place, I realized that there was a spam problem when I saw the anchor cloud on ahrefs which showed many unrelated anchors for my site. I have three questions: **First, **Many URL's are actually from websites which have nothing to do with my line of business and I can sure spot them. What I get confused with is this - I can not say that these sites are downright spam. Some of them look to be good sites for example - a coffee machine vendor (with full business details and a fairly decent looking business), a Nike sports shoes mart etc. But they have nothing to do with my business. So my first question is - What is spam really? Would a back link from a high ranking website in the travel industry be considered spam from the point of view of someone who runs a website for medical equipment, specially if the back-link is from an unrelated anchor text like - "3 nights travel package" (which has nothing to do with medical business). I think I should disavow all the low quality back links with an erroneous anchor but Id like some views on this. Second, I see that in the disavow file, one could either upload a whole domain or a specific URL (could somebody please confirm this). I have some sites which have 8-12 (more in some cases) back links to my site. In most cases these sites are either really bad quality or have nothing to do with my business. I am tempted to disavow the entire domain for such sites instead of going by the URL's. Any views? Third, this is what I'd really like some help with. In case I delete the very pages (on my site) to which these back links point, should I still disavow the pointing domain? Finally: I have not created most of these backlinks. In fact, over the last 2-3 months we have started creating links from good sites in my industry. Most of the anchor cloud is good for me on ahrefs but there are these bad ones to which my question relates. I have not got any manual penalty from Google, though my traffic I think took a hit in the first week of October 2013.

How long it takes to see backlink ?
We are promoting a law related website and I have posted a blog as a guest on a Law related blog which has PR 3 and Alexa Ranking 171.. It's been 3 weeks but when i run a backlink report from OpenExplorer or other tools that i use, i cannot see the link coming through at all. There is no no follow attached. I'd like to continue to post more articles on the same website but i need to make sure i am getting good links from it otherwise i will go somewhere else. However, i need to understand why do i not get links from that blog as it is very reputable and good blog. I appreciate if you can advise please? Thanks!

Unnatural Linking Using Webdsite Themes
I am working on a website that last year received an email from Google via webmaster tools talking about the linking profile. The email suggested that the website had unnatural activity (links) and that the webmaster needed to investigate before filing for a reconsideration. After having looked at the link profile using OSE, it was easy to see the problem. Thousands of inbound links with the exact anchor text. Here is the BIG problem. The tactics used by the unamed SEO agency prior to me were to embed links in to the footer of web themes? At this stage it is unclear as to where you can downlaod or purchase the web themes but it's obvious that the problem is simply going to escalate. The domain in question is www.teamtactics.co.uk Any thoughts on the above would be much appreciated - at this point I am trying to find the place were the themes are available for download. Any ideas much appreciated. shivun

Question to SEO experts about backlink tracking
Hi, could you recommend the best tool that you use to keep track of all the backlinks you have. I'd imaging there is a good software or website which lists all your backlinks with all relevant info for each link (PR of the linking site, authority level etc) thanks in advance for sharing.

Has Anyone Used Zemanta ?
I read a post some time back on zemanta and thought its a great idea to build links and it has a great outreach strategy The two things you need are alot of quality images and the budget for the monthly cost. I do plan to try it in the future and wanted to know if anyone has given it a try here ? Cheers, Vishal
