It looks like there are several title tags on my homepage. This was done presumably to embed titles for pop up windows. This is causing an error report in DMOZ. Do the engines also veiw this negatively?
-
My homepage has a normal title tag, but when I look in the code I find the developer also added title tags for pop ups within the homepage code. Is this causing an issue with the search engines?
-
Paul,
Thank you for the help. You have confirmed everything I was thinking.
-
Hi Sean,
Search engines are going to look at the title element that is inside of the head element. Moreover, W3C HTML standard / definition only allows for one title element only.
Should you include more than one title element, whichever will be chosen / indexed by a search engine is anyone's guess. I'm not sure how they handle that.
In regards to the homepage content, it looks like you could use a bit more. I see you have styles defined for an H1 & H2 tags, but no H1 or H2 elements on the page.
Moreover, it looks like you have several lightbox popups. It's good that you have the actual content for each one in the main source for your homepage (vs. being loaded dynamically), but you'd probably benefit from altering the design a bit to make that content / text visible without the popup.

Sean, as Paul said it would be easier to analyze with the URL available or paste the code fragments after you anonymize your data if you'd rather not have it discussed in public or PM the URL.
-
Can you provide a URL? It would help if we can see the actual page -

What are "stop" words in Title Tags?
My client is following his GoDaddy SEO Checklist, and it is reporting 5 errors in Title Tags, saying the Titles contain "stop" words. I can't figure out what these are. Any ideas?

Should stop words be used in titles? I'm aiming for natural title structure.
I have fully optimized on-page SEO for the following keyword (not really the one I use, but it can serve as an example): -personal driver in los angeles Even though "in" is a stop word, I prefer to have a natural (non-robotic) structure for the title - I do this by including "in". I believe that "personal driver los angeles" is too spammy and too robotic. Is this a good or a bad thing?

Meta Title for Category Pages
I am trying to improve the SEO for a few key category pages on my blog. I have two ranking really well so I want to boost them and bring up some others. Can I put two keywords in the meta title? Example: Maternity Deals | Pregnancy Deals Or should I just stick with one? Thanks!

Regarding the META KEYWORDS tag
Two questions regarding the META KEYWORDS tag: Does Google actually penalize you for using the KEYWORD META tag, or does it just ignore it? On a related matter, I've noticed that when I use the On-Page Optimization Tool, it indicates that my header includes the KEYWORD tag, although I've taken great pains to remove keywords from pages that had been optimized by a previous SEO. I'm using Magento - Could it be a legacy issue? Would that make a difference?

Is it damaging to have TOO long a title tag these days? i.e. well over character limit
Is it damaging to have TOO long a title tag these days? i.e. well over character limit. I learned that title tags should be around 70 characters. I am new at this, but have a client that has three times that, with the same three keyword phrases repeating 3-4 times. And then NO h1's or h2's in the text......advice? Rookie here 🙂
