Why Keyword Ranking Fluctuate?
-
Hi All,
I have a shoes website and I am working on it from last four months. I am targeting four main keywords but I have some issues with ranking.
First one is that keywords ranking fluctuate many time a day but they remain on the same page.
Second one is that these keywords remain on the same page for 2 to 3 week and than suddenly they drop down in the ranking.
Please help me regarding these issue.
Waiting for replies.
Thanks

Just following-up to make sure you have your personalization turned off if you are checking your rankings manually. See Takeshi's answer below.

Yes, and too much tweaking can cause problems. IMO

Sounds to me like you're seeing these rankings, then you're trying to 'tweak/optimize' these same pages to go higher in the ranking and so those 2-3 weeks are w/ index A and then your new 'tweaked' page Index A version 2.0 gets indexed and throws you into a new ranking/tailspin

Like I said, rankings are always changing. Always. Accept that no matter what you do, your rankings will fluctuate, whether your site is four months old or four years old.
As for the rankings drop, it's impossible to say without more specifics. The most common reason these days for rankings drops is over-optimized anchor text, but again it's impossible to say without more specifics.
Assuming it's not a penalty, just focus on creating better content or building more links. That's SEO in a nutshell. If you are able to attract lots of high quality links, Google will tend to rank your site higher and keep you there. Likewise, if your site provides a great user experience and great information, Google will want to show the site to more of its users. Great content also tends to attract great links.
Figuring out why one keyword went up or down a position is not possible given how many factors there are, and is typically not a good use of your time. Focus on the big picture: build a quality site and build links.

Takeshi Thanks for you response.
But why the same thing is happening from last four months and domain is also four years old.
Also answer the second question please.

Make sure you have personalization turned off. Switch to incognito/private browsing mode on your browser, and make sure you are not logged into your Google account, as these can change rankings. Even what computer you use and your physical location can impact rankings.
Also, keep in mind that rankings fluctuate all the time. This is especially true for new sites, as Google tries to figure out where you "belong" in the search results. Even established sites fluctuate, as Google introduces over 200 changes a year to its algorithm.
Your rankings are never guaranteed and can change at any time. The best you can do is make sure your website provides an amazing experience, and work on building links to build up your link authority.

How to rank a product page
Hello, I have a product page and just did a little introduction ( 5 lines of text) but I have the feeling this is not enough for google. What is the solution ? Is it to increase the amount of content even though it is not going to be user friendly ? Or will google look at the product page I link too and take into account the content on those subpages to boost my "pillar / product page". Thank you,

Ranking Page #1 for Keyword without Hypen, Not at all for Keyword with Hyphen
Hi There! So I work in an industry where there are different conventions for referring to, searching on and spelling the industry name. For example, let's pretend there were a variety of different conventions for referring to the SEO industry. So someone could search for S-EO, SEO, sEO, etc. and those would all be accepted and understood means of referring to the industry. If we use the SEO example as a comparison for our industry, the two most common conventions would be S-EO and SEO. Using this example, we rank on the first page for the term "SEO" but do not rank AT ALL for the term "S-EO". We have a high-value piece of content that is targeted in the following way: "S-EO (SEO): The Basics Guide" so it is more targeted at the hyphenated word but does not rank at all for the hyphenated version, whereas it is page one for the non-hyphenated term. As additional pieces of context: -In general, our site is more targeted at the hyphenated term and there are places where we rank in the top spot for both the hyphenated and non-hyphenated versions. For example, we rank in a top 2 position for both S-EO & SEO software but do not rank at all for the broader "S-EO" term. -There are times when we do appear on page one for the term "S-EO" but it's typically only for a matter or hours or days and then we disappear entirely from the SERPs for that term. We consistently appear for "SEO." -I currently do not believe we are dealing with a penalty of any sort - our link profile is clean and our spam score per Moz is 2 / 17. Any thoughts or ideas as to what is going on here and how we can potentially rank for the term "S-EO?"

Keyword Spy Source?
We've got a few backlinks from Keyword Spy and Keyword Spy Pro. I'm pretty sure of the answer but I'll ask it anyway. Is there any way to determine who's doing the snooping? Are there any signals to look for while clicking back through the link "crumbs" that might tell me something of interest or value?

Should I build & try to rank several pages for similar keywords?
I have a client who's domain already ranks #1 on Google for 'automotive advertising agency'. However we want several listing on the first page. Should I create a few more pages like www.domain.com/automotive-advertising-agency www.domain.com/advertising-agency www.domain.com/automotive-advertising I'm assuming I can get these pages to rank well, but I'm wondering if Google will penalize us for this. Is this a good or bad idea?

Keyword cannibalization
I ran the SEOMoz onpage diagnostic, and i got an alert for keyword cannibalization. My taxonomy is: www.mysite.com www.mysite.com/category (category page) www.mysite.com/category/category-keyword (supporting page) Links will be exact match in the primary navigation. www.mysite.com anchor text "category" => www.mysite.com/category www.mysite.com anchor text "category keyword" => www.mysite.com/category/category-keyword www.mysite.com/category anchor text "category keyword" => www.mysite.com/category/category-keyword and example would be /IT-support linking with anchor text "IT Support Servers" => /IT-Support/IT-Support-Servers I'm not going to have a cannibalization problem, am I?

Rankings traffic percentages
Hi All, It seems that some keywords that are receiving a fairly high amount of monthly traffic such as 6000 hits are passing very little traffic to my website. for a few keywords recieving this amount of traffic my site ranks on page one. is there a breakdown of what percentage of traffic you should roughly get to your website depending on the rank for a certain keyword. example; position 1 send approximately % traffic to your site position 2 send approximately % traffic to your site etc thank you
