Organic Rankings for the US & Australia

I have a site that is ranking well for competitive keywords in the US, but would like to have it rank in Australia as well. Although there's no direct correlation, I'm running large Adwords campaigns in both countries. I've read to write localized content for each region, but not sure if this is effective as it used to be. I've also read to use location markup and microformats. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nicholas,
It also depends if you are trying to rank for localised terms or localised variations in the Australian market. If so this will require some on page content optimisation and tweaking. Also look at building your SEO back-linking program from domestic sources i.e. .com.au/Australian directories etc.
You really just need to put your head in the space of "What would I do if I were an Australian business"

The thing with Google Australia is that it tends to favor the following things, I have worked in the Australian and US markets for a long time so I see this day in day out.
1. A website which is using a local domain .com.au or .net.au - Australian specific domain names (if you are running off a .com domain make a sub folder or sub domain for the region.
2. Website which is hosted locally in Australia (not as important as above)
3. Local pages and content based for each specific region example - Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane based content driven pages. (From recent testing Google seems to be placing some focus on local based content for each specific region)
4. Local links and citations also help the overall process.

as an Australian, I know that it is very important for me to rank very well for search engine optimisation and search engine optimization for my international clients. Make sure you localise and not localize.
localisation is integral here both with the search engines and with the sales process.
As a matter if interest have you thought of split testing a new domain or sub domain with web master tools set up differently? Also are you displaying any business location?

URL ranks in US pretty well except in target city area. Please advise.
Hi everyone, I have a weird problem that has been bothering me for the last few months. One of our urls: https://www.dcacar.com/lax-car-service.html Ranks for keywords such as "car service to lax", "lax car service", etc. It does pretty well from any location that we check: page 1, position 5-7. But here is the interesting part, when a searcher in actually in Los Angeles it does not show up at all, even on page 4. So if you're anywhere else in USA you'll see our landing page on page 1 position 5-7 but when you're in Los Angeles where we actually want the people to see the landing page it's no where to be found. I added our local office address at the bottom, also added a link to our local Yelp page hoping that might send some kind of signal to Google but as of now no luck. Has anyone experienced anything like this and what is the solution? What do we have to do to fix this weird problem. Thanks in advance

Pagination, Javascript & SEO
Hi I need some help identifying whether we need to rethink the way we paginated product pages, On this page http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/workbenches when clicking page 1,2, etc - we have javascript to sort the results, the URL displayed and the URL linked to are different. e.g. The URL for these paginated pages is for example: page2 http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/workbenches#productBeginIndex:30&orderBy:5&pageView:list& Then the arrows either side of pagination, link to the paginated landing page e.g. http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/workbenches?page=3 - this is where the rel/prev details are - done for Google However - when clicking on this arrow, the URL loaded is different again - http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/workbenches#productBeginIndex:60&orderBy:5&pageView:list& & doesn't take you http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/workbenches?page=3 I did not set this up, but I am concerned that the URL http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/workbenches?page=3 never actually loads, but it's linked to Google can crawl it. Is this a problem? I am looking to implement a view all option. Thank you

Keyword rank and redirecting
I'm creating a new amazon affiliate site. I've researched other successful sites. I've noticed that they are ranking for 1000s of keywords, but many of these long tail keywords are redirected back to a main page. I can see how this can reduce the overall total amount of content pages on the site. How are you able to rank for the keyword in the first place if the the page is redirected?

Not Ranking - Any Tips?
Hi guys, I have a client site that I've recently come onboard with that was published late last year, not really optimized for anything, and in a moderately, but not very, competitive, search space. Early April we optimized the home page and a couple of other pages and have since built about 5-6 (high quality, partial match) links to it, and a press release was done mid last month. The only other thing we did was change the site from non-www to www and set this as the preferred domain in Search Console. Over 6 weeks since that all began, and we're still not on the radar at all for any of our main keywords - nowhere. The only thing we are really ranking for is our brand name, but this is the wrong (press release, not home!) page, and it's bouncing a lot. All of the pages seem to be indexed, and we are ranking for one other (inconsequential) keyword, but 99 is the highest it has reached. An SEO friend told me to build some citations, but this is not a local business, nor are we trying to rank locally. Can anyone please suggest why it might be taking so long, and what else I could try? I imagine more links will help, but results from our outreach are hard to predict, so if there were another safe link type that could help me figure out whether this domain is in trouble or not ASAP, that would be ideal. So we de-SEO'd the second page and added more content to the first page.
This seemed to lock Google onto the first page at 16, but it then started to slowly slide downwards. We have made a few more on page text tweaks, tried to reduce keywords density all to no avail. Even though overall this site has a better DA and MOZ profile than those ranked 1 and 2 for the phrase, we just cannot seem to get it moving in the right direction. We are just about to apply some quality links to see if that helps. But we are wondering if we are missing something at a technical level, like category structure, Canonicalisation, 301 redirects or something else. Any thoughts?0 -
How to rank product pages?
Hi guys, Please advice me on something improving my product pages ranking. We are doing well for head terms, categories but not ranking for product pages. We have issues with product pages which I am think is hard to tackle. For instance we have duplicate products (different colors), duplicate content internally (colors) and from manufacturer websites. Product pages linked from sub-category i.e. Home > Category > Sub-Category (20 per page) using pagination for next 20 and so on. Product pages linked internally via widgets that says other Similar products, featured products etc. Another issue with our product pages is that we are using third party reviews platform and whenever users add reviews to product pages this platform creates an hyperlink to different anchors which is not relevant to product. Example - http://goo.gl/NUG652 Can somebody please give some advice on how to improve rankings for product pages. writing unique content for thousands of pages is not possible. Even our competitor not writing unique content.

Google Places - How do we rank
So, google places showing up on search results is great feature . . . But how can we get our results to the top? I mean I can see some terrible websites appearing at the top of the google places with their places page having no activity whatsoever. Is there a trick to this at all? The ranking power of exact match domains
I've read previous Q&A where people have been a bit dismissive of the ranking significance of exact match domains but my experience recently using the keyword competiveness tool is that exact match domains seem to outrank other sites regardless of domain or page authority or other on-site/on-page optimisation. I'm interested in other people's opinions and experiences.
