Authorship and Google +
-
I've got 14 affiliate websites with plenty of original content on each.
When I set up Google + last year I of course had the page in my name and then went on to set up separate pages for each site. Actually one page is related to 8 different sites related to golf but broken down by club type.
I also have a Wordpress plugin which presents my author bio on my about page for each site. I've filled out all the pertinent information on each Google + page with unique data.
OK, when I write a review or blog topic and post it to Google + am I getting the rel = author juice from the sub pages as if I post it to my main profile page?
Posting to my Don Bistrow page vs. my golf page?

Hello Don,
I saw the title="follow us on Facebook" tag within the code of a rel publisher link on one of those sites. I don't remember which though. Just open source view, search for rel="publisher" and double check the href title attributes on each site. I could be wrong, but am pretty sure I saw it that way.

Thank you so much for your assistance. On the plugin I'm writing the developers to see if there is a way to manipulate the code to appear in the area you recommend. Otherwise I may have to switch to something out of the Google "Authorship" toolbox.
I changed the redundancy with the links and left it to "Contributor to".
One last question on what you wrote:
I noticed your rel publisher links have "follow us on Facebook" as the link title. That probably wouldn't cause the issue, but I'd fix it anyway.
I've looked but I'm not sure where "follow us on Facebook" is appearing in "rel publisher" links. Is this in Google + or on my sites?
I appreciate all your advice on the rankings and authority. Thanks again.
Don

I noticed your rel publisher links have "follow us on Facebook" as the link title. That probably wouldn't cause the issue, but I'd fix it anyway.
I noticed on your About page on G+ for your personal author profile you link under the "links" and "other profiles" section. The link to the websites you write on should go under "Contributor To".
I noticed you put the rel author link in the header, sort of like a rel canonical tag. This is probably done by a plugin. I recommend putting the link where your name is after the post so it is an actual href link around your name instead of a header tag.
If you fix those three things and are still having sporadic success just keep building the trust/authority of your websites and your G+ profiles. Just because you put the tags on your pages correctly doesn't guarantee a thumbnail, but building a good following and high-quality links/content should get you there eventually if the links are set up correctly.
I would continue to build up your authority as a golf writer on your sites and others. Eventually I think this will have a positive impact on your rankings. Right now it could help your click-through rate, but I don't think it directly impacts rankings. It is worth doing, in my opinion.
Good luck!

These sites are "Niche" golf sites so I whittled them down to specific clubs. I understand my competition covers all sites on one site but many golfers tend to look for a specific club then either by a whole set or that one club they want - i.e. wedge, putter, hybrid, fairway, driver, etc.
I did some experimenting and sites aren't always coming up with the thumbnail images. It seems very random as to what URLs come up with the thumbnail or not. The Google+ pages and Facebook pages where I post a new review are coming up in SERPs. My FB pages automatically post to my corresponding twitter account.
Here's the Google + page related to Golf
Here's my Google + profile page
I suppose link juice was the wrong term, I'm really wondering if that thumbnail helps in the overall realm of SEO or I should not worry too much and move on the more important matters.

I'm not sure what you mean by "real = author juice" since, as far as anyone knows, there is not currently any ranking boost associated with "author rank" though it is a likelyhood in the near future.
If you mean that in terms of whether you will get the author thumbnail next to the post the best way to find out is to do a Google search.
Of course I may not be understanding the question correctly. My advice first would be to reconsider the tactic of having that many closely-related sites and instead put them all, or mostly, on one site. That aside, you would have one Authorship profile and would link to that from each site, though each site could also have its own rel = publisher tag, and associated G+ profile and thumbnail image.
If each post links to the author bio page on the same domain that the post is on, and each author bio page links to your G+ profile you should be set up correctly, as you do not need to link to your G+ profile from every post so long as every post links to the author's page, which links to the G+ profile.

QUESTION! Does anyone have any information about using an API to create Google Posts?
We have a client that has over 150 locations. They are using a software to post to all of their accounts at once with an API for different platforms. We are wondering if there is anyway to do this to post to their Google My Business Page.

Is google plus really useful?
Hi guys first of all i am really thankful for such an opportunity to test such a wonderful app and i didnt know there is a Q&A community here 🙂 i was actually searching on google about google plus and end up here but the thread i bumped into is a bit outdated anyway a little background on what i am doing. Our company have a 15 local branches, its a service that we provide on our local clients. I am totally new to SEO like 6 months and i am really learning a lot and i am now learning on how to build my own backlinks and my 1st struggle is on google+ actually i am dismayed that its too confusing (at first) but somehow i manage to understand but still unsure please correct me. So google+ has 2 type 1 is for personal and 1 is for brand am i correct? So since we have 15 local branches what i did is create a personal page and make it as our business page and then claimed all the 15 branches on google maps and all is verified now. You think im correct on creating a personal page and make it as our main business page? I asked because i want to create brands page on each branch or do I even need brand pages for my branches? Was thinking of this custom URLS for our main page (which is our personal page) +OurBusiness for the branch brand page +OurBusinessCity you think it would be cool? 🙂 then on about sections (brand page) where i can add links on tag line description i will put the dedicate branch page of our website www.ourbusiness.com/city, then on that website page i will also put our google plus brand page +OurBusinessCity so its a 2 way link. Please bare with me as i am fairly new to this and i am not really sure if my ideas are stupid so please dont laugh 🙂 By the way my another question is about the ABOUT ME section of google+ personal page, when i add link on the description its a nofollow, i know cause i have this extension on my browser that detects do/nofollow links but on the link section its a dofollow. On the other hand google+ brand page has no links section so if you have a link and want to include it on your google+ brand page easy way to do it is put it on description and i just found out its a do follow HOWEVER it seems like the links on both pages (personal, brand) are not seen by search engines i tried it on several google search simulator and also checked the source code of the pages and i cant seem to find the links so my question is, is google really that useful when it comes to backlink building? Another question is that when i build brand pages i have to use our brand name and so all the branches have the same brand names includes our personal page so all of those 16 pages have the same name, will it be ok? Another question is that is there anyway that i can edit its meta description? 🙂 please i am really new to google so bare with me. Thank you so much in advance and hope to hear from the gurus 😉

Google manual penalty?
Is it possible to receive a manual penalty on just 2 keywords (or any penalty for that matter) from Google but receive no message in GWT? I am going to give a lot of information here, in the hopes that it will be helpful. My apologies if it's too long. Some of you who are here a lot, may remember my panicked questions in early January. I have learned a ton since then but I still haven't fully solved our mystery and one of the questions that remains is if perhaps one can receive a penalty for particular keywords only and not receive any messages. Our company name, company name.com and company name + location is still coming up #1. We also still have a couple of other keywords at #4 and #7 so it seems our site wasn't penalized. My over-zealousness with the keyword usage on our Home page was pointed out to me here in the forum by Dr. Pete so I made some significant changes on that back in January and continue to tweak although I'm afraid at this point, to do too much that may cause us to lose ranking in the last two good keywords...Meanwhile, our listings on Bing and Yahoo are great and mostly continue to go up. Back Story: We had a huge drop in the SERPS for a particular set of keywords that I feel are our most critical, at the end of December 2012 after being #3 for over a decade. We had a smaller drop in October, that worried me and I worked on the on-page and brought it back to #7 sometime in Nov or early Dec and then it disappeared to "not in top 50". I believe I overdid it. I also got a lot of great advice and leads from Mike Tek and have been having a blast being engaged in reading, learning, following, commenting. I believe I have created some good content since January by creating a company blog and adding posts regularly- 19 so far. I have also gotten some reviews on Yelp, claimed more local listings, worked on our Google+ page, joined Communities, have been promoting our blog posts on FB, Linkedin, Twitter, Google+. We are very short in the inbound link department and I have yet to activate solutions on that score, (and sadly, the majority of our links are in client footers as we are a web design company and I don't think we should remove them without being sure they've hurt us). I am at the point of looking for some help for hire for link building as I am realizing my own limitations.

Google + Profile in Serps
Hello, Ive noticed some of my competitors show up with both verified and non-verified Google+ Icon, and recent activity showing to the right usually where PPC shows. Is it possible for smaller sized businesses to accomplish something like this? Im assuming this is not paid? Thank You
