Pretty basic question on how best to start using open site Explorer
-
So I have spend around a month or so with on page optimization on 25 -30 or so pages and keywords/phrases, with some half decent results…still hoping there is more to come…
I reckon now it’s time to look at getting more inbound links with Open site Explorer… Every time I look at it though I get a bit of a head ache…!
Can anyone say or point me in the right direction how I should really start using Open site Explorer ? (I have the PRO tool)
Thanks, sorry its such a simple question!

There is a Webinar later this week titled "Using SEOmoz Tools to Acquire Whitehat Links" - it may be worth tuning in for that one. There is one later in the month on the future of link building too.

OSE is really just a way to see what links OSE thinks are imporant (that are link to you). This is kind of a report. The real work is going out and getting links. OSE will not give you links, but report to you which one's you have. I really love SEObook toolbar for firefox. This shows me the links to a page and the TLD (entire domain) from OSE and also yahoo. Yahoo is also an excellent (if not better) resource for seeing all the links that are going to your site. Best ways to build links:
Guest blog posts, partnerships, produce content that people link to, articles distribution and press releases.

Linking to the same sites from more than one of my sites, is this bad?
If I work for a company that has more than one website within the same industry and we have separate websites within that industry. An example would be: CarLoans.com HomeLoans.com & PersonalLoans.com The only difference from this example is that we are a B2B Company. My question is: is it bad to acquire links from the same external websites for multiple websites that we own and want to rank for? If I establish a relationship with Forbes or some other website and I can get links to several of our sites, will it ever be bad to link to all of our websites from this one website. I am asking not just for high domain authority website like Forbes, but also for websites that may have a DA in the 30's 40's and 50's as well. Thank you

Linking structure question
I generally go with UX over SEO when it comes to pretty much anything on my site. But, my question today is about linking (both internal and external). For internal links, I generally link in the same tab and for external links I generally open in a new tab. Recently I've gotten a few questions about external links opening in new tabs because some mobile devices can't open more than one tab at a time. So, here is my questions. What do you do and why? Is there any SEO value to having your links open in a new tab? Thanks.

Links from non existant sites?
Hi! I'm new at all this 🙂 I've taken a look at the backlink profile for one of my sites as it's seems its been hit by this last Penguin update. I'm finding links to my homepage from sites that no longer exist, like this one: http://mikimoto-pearls.org - does this hurt my backlink? I mean, I would figure it does since there's nothing there? If so, how do I get the link removed? Do I even need to? Disavow tool maybe? Thank you!

Keyword links are not showing up in majesticseo or open site explorer
I've been doing link building by writing good content and getting other blogs to post my articles with keyword links embedded. One example is: Original article: http://www.cleanedison.com/blog/setting-the-stage-for-greenbuild-2012-1997 Re-published article: http://www.renewableenergyfocus.com/blog/2012/11/7/guest-blog-setting-the-stage-for-greenbuild-2012/683.aspx (Keyword is LEED Certification - it goes to http://www.cleanedison.com/leed) I have 2 questions: Why isn't this backlink being found by majesticseo or open site explorer? Why isn't my original article showing up a google search at all? P.S. Overall, despite my best efforts, my keyword rankings have been falling recently, is there anything obvious that I'm doing wrong?

Blog Commenting - Useful?
How useful are you finding blog commenting to be regarding link building? I was having a discussion with someone about this today, and I thought some input from the Moz community may be helpful. How helpful do you find blog commenting to be in link building? Do you have any evidence of effectiveness/ineffectiveness? Is it something you still currently do (for link building)? Any input is appreciated. Thanks guys!

Photography Site ranking!
Hi I am working on a photography site: www.daffodilwaves.co.uk now there isn't many pages nor is the that much text. However you will see that they have a blog (poorly designed one which we are addressing) Now blog posts I feel can be really good as there is generally alot of naturally written text which I don't feel I need to influence. Also generally people will comment so I also believe that is good for rankings too. However I find that the blog ranks higher than the actual website and I dont want that to occur the website is the one that generates the bookings. So can you give me some ideas to transfer the ranking from the blog to the website? I was thinking that within the article I could simply link back to the homepage - would you think that is a good idea? If so would you suggest I use particular anchor text? such as "Wedding Photographer" or "Comtemporary wedding Photographer" Thanks
