Posting on blog comments with anchor text on high ranked pages effective?
-
So i've identified some blogs which have a fairly high ranking and lots of traffic. They also allow anchor text in the name field.
Does it make sense for me to comment on these blogs, or does google treat these with less authority that true page links?
Any advice is greatly appreciated!
TIA

Hi there,
Commenting on posts can be a good way of building your name in a particularly community, and even encouraging click-through traffic if the topic and the target website is relevant and of use to readers, but as an SEO technique it's really not worth your time.
For a start, the majority of blog comments are marked with the 'nofollow' attribute, meaning they pass no link value to your site, and even if you do find a blog that allows dofollow comments, it will be packed with links (making any link value passed minimal) and will have almost always been spammed, meaning there will be links to dodgy link neighbourhoods and irrelevant sites, meaning you don't really want a link from that page anyway.
By all means contribute to the community with comments that add something to the discussion or show your appreciation for a particularly well written or informative post, but your link-building efforts are far better placed in other areas.
Here's a couple of excellent posts on link-building that might help get you started:

No-indexed pages are still showing up as landing pages in Google Analytics
Hello, My website is a local job board. I de-indexed all of the job listing pages on my site (anything that starts with http://www.localwisejobs.com/job/). When I search site:localwisejobs.com/job/, nothing shows up. So I think that means the pages are not being indexed. When I look in Google Analytics at Acquisition > Search Engine Optimization > Landing Pages, none of the job listing pages show up. But when I look at Acquisition > Channels > Organic and then click Landing Page as the primary dimension, the /job pages show up in there. Why am I seeing this discrepency in Organic Landing pages? And why would the /job pages be showing up as landing pages even though they aren't indexed?

SEO Working GREAT! Although Keyword Rankings Only Directing to Home Page.
Since I've become a fellow MOZer I've seen an increase on my sites and proud to say that ALL of my clients have now accomplished 1st page rankings on at least 2 of their top 3 keywords. Yes, I am as stoked as them. Although I am a bit worried because as I rank keywords and test them on Google and engines alike all of our rankings direct to the homepage. I am essentially new to SEO. So as happy as I am to be doing something right I'm worried I'm losing the end user. By having them need to Search our site/menus/blog for the keywords/phrase that got them to us will turn most searchers away. They want the content now. What am I doing wrong? My pages are pretty specific so I never cared to use rel-canonical's...I dont have duplicate content, other than your typical footer/side bar consistent info. So I'm curious where I've gone wrong. Little history on my sites: I Use Joomla 2.5 & 3.x. I manage seo details through sh404seo. I've cleaned all duplicates I can up other than what these dynamic cms generate by just using one. I've done fairly well and all my pages rank A for moz's onpage grader for the keyword optimized around. Any help is appreciate, THANK YOU!

Can't seem to rank for keyword "home care grand rapids" - need some advice
I am trying to rank for "home care grand rapids" and am having a really difficult time. My site: http://healthcareassociates.net has better backlinks, keywords and other seo markers than my competitors but I still can't seem to rank. The keyword and associated keywords (home care grand rapids michigan, home health care grand rapids, etc.) are only 31-33% difficulty and my site/page rank is better than the leading sites. What gives? Todd

My question is please... "If a user clicks on a banner will Google measure this as a home page bounce" ( I dont think it will i just want to be 100% sure) Click here for illustration:

Stats show /blog/wp-cron.php at the top. What is it?
Hi, I have worked with websites for years but have no clue when it comes to Wordpress. We have our main website and then a Wordpress blog running in a subfolder that is only about a year old. The blog has only 7 posts so you can see how small it is vs main website with 200 pages. Usually our main index page of the site is at the top of the stats with the most views and this page /blog/wp-cron.php is about 30% lower. Now suddenly over the last month this page has jumped to the top and accessed almost as much as the home page of the site. We took a big hit with the latest Google Update so we are tyring to determine if there is anything technical in our site that has caused an issue. Thanks in advance Force7
