What the - SERP?
-
I have my site I made 5 days ago with 5 pages of unique content at 500 words each, no backlinks, and non-optimized on page SEO.
I just check my SERP ranking for a competition of 49-50% at I am sitting at the bottom of page 1?
Will I keep this rank or what?
-
No its just a regular micro niche site focused on one thing with posts that are relatively old.
Nothing out of the ordinary; I should expect a drop then.
-
Are you using wordpress or some kind of blog CMS? I have seen my posts shoot up the SERPS almost immediately after I post and then slowly over a few days creep back down and unless they start getting socially shared or linked to fall off the front pages. It's to do with how Google counts fresh content.

I've seen something similar especially when you appear in some kind of news websites.
Maybe Google wants to see if his new page is no something 'viral'.

Sorry to disappoint you but look to me lately that Google show new sites up (same with new maps) for few days and then they drop to their natural position.
i was coming across this few weeks ago with one of my customers projects and seance then i am checking it and see most sites show up there for few days and drop down.
hope it will stay up for you

This could be influenced by other factors. Are you logged in to Google, are you visiting the site in private browsing mode etc?
If you've visited the site a few times, Google will take this in to account and push your page higher up the SERPs for searches conducted by you.
Hard to tell if you will keep the ranking without knowing any more information?

Wrong page ranking on SERP, above more relevant page
Often I will see the wrong page, something less relevant to a particular search, appear higher on the SERP than a more relevant page. Why does this happen and how can it be remedied? I found this Moz article, has anything been written on this topic more recently. Thanks! https://moz.com/blog/wrong-page-ranking-in-the-results-6-common-causes-5-solutions

New google serps page design
hi i know title length displayed is now based on pixels rather than character but still thought safe to have titles up to 70 characters long before they are truncated i see that on the new G serps designed pages titles that were showing in full on old design (without truncation) are now being truncated. As in same title shows fine (displays in full) on old design serps but truncated on new designed page Anyone else notice this ? Cheers Dan

Google is showing the "wrong" page in the serps for user queries
Our site, cpuboss.com has two main types of pages: comparisons of CPUs, and pages about individual CPUs. When I google search for "fx8350", a keyword for the cpu "AMD FX-8350", I hoped to see our CPU page ranking, instead I see a comparison of this CPU against another. http://i.imgur.com/QwNczDj.png?1 (Our page ranks #5) Any idea? Many of our comparisons rank for CPU keywords, when I think it'd be a better experience for the user if our cpu pages ranked instead. This particular CPU page is linked to on our homepage with appropriate anchor text, and linked to on that comparison also. I would have hoped the relevance of the cpu page to this keyword would be stronger than the comparison page, and google might use that relevance signal to show the user the right page. thoughts?

Does a phone number in the title tag hurt your rankings in SERP?
Hi Mozzers, One of my client is a carpet cleaner and I was wondering if adding a phone number into the title tags would hurt our rankings . I am asking because the client has mentioned it and that we do have some space to add a phone number into the tag. Thanks

Getting Google to provide a different URL in SERP
For one of my client’s sites, I have several keywords that are ranking in the top 5 positions. However, they have a high bounce rate. I believe this is because Google is delivering a different URL than the page we have optimized for the keyword. Any suggestions on ways I can get Google to present our preferred page?

Is This Duplicate Content Hurting Our SERPs?
We sell 1000s of audio book title, many of which are published in more than one format (abridged, unabridged CD, and/or unabridged MP3) by the same publisher. Currently each title has its own page but the basic description of the title (story) is the same. Here is an example title that is offered in three formats. 44 Charles Street - Danielle Steel - abridged CD audiobook 44 Charles Street - Danielle Steel - MP3 CD audiobook 44 Charles Street - Danielle Steel - CD audiobook Each of the above pages has a different page title, a different URL, a different meta description however much of the body (from [Listen to a FREE Audio Clip] down is the same. Is this duplicate content hurting our SERPs?

Strange meta description shown in SERPS
Hi there, I recently stumbled upon a strange phenomenon in the SERPs. Here's the situation: A customer’s website is ranking for a keyword with the root domain. Strangely the actual meta description (as implemented in the source code) is not shown. Instead Google takes the H1-Header and a part of a short element from a contact form. Any clue/hint, how this could have happened and can be changed? Sorry, that I can’t name the domain and the keyword (in German), but I hope, the above explains the problem. Thanks in advance and cheers from Germany Sven
