Getting out of Google's Penguin
-
Hi all, my site www.uniggardin.dk has lost major rankings on the searchengine google.dk. Went from rank #2-3 on important keywords to my site, and after the latest update most of my rankings have jumped to #12 - #20.
This is so annoying, and I really have no idea what to do. Can it cause bad links to my site? In that case what will I have to do?
Thanks in advance,
Christoffer -
you should connect on twitter and G+ via my profile page on here... in case you need more guidance
-
Exactly, just replace the ones you have lost with better ones -your ranking will come back in no time
-
Ok so getting more quality links would be the way through?
Thanks
-
or get your moz profile to 200 mozpoints and they will no follow a your profile link to your website.

It sounds to me more like the continuous link devaluation that Google is employing these days.
They will devalue links as and when they find anything seen as spammy. They then turn these links from dofollow to nofollow. When they update their algorithms this will change what is viewed as unnatural and then they will pick up on links that were not previously viewed as bad.
There will be no need for any actions other then to replace these links in order to regain your rankings.
A few high DA sites to get some links from could include Google plus + and Pinterest. Google plus lets any account post a few external links on the bottom right. Pinterest allows for a backlink when creating a verified business profile. Both easily done and both provide 100DA (domain authority) dofollow backlinks to your website
-
If I havent got a Gslap (Google penalty) What would then be the reason for my big drops in the ranks after latest google update?
Is there a recipe to find those high DA domains and where I will be able to post my link?
Thanks
-
Definately not a penalty, you would have known about it if you did have one. Normally I have found you are dropped about 10 pages when you get a Gslap (google penalty).
Just build some high DA (Domain Authority) links from some great social sites and you will be back on page one in no time

Hi Christoffer.
Start by taking a snapshot of your inbound links using a range of tools including Open Site Explorer.
Sort the links by the following:
1. Relevancy, on a scale of 1-10
2. Quality of site, on a scale of 1-10.The prime candidates for removal are:
-Sites with low DA / metrics, low inbound links and low social metrics
-Sites with low quality overall, or sites in which the prime purpose appears to be advertising before providing good content to the consumer
-Sites that are completely irrelevant to your business.Start with the worst offending links.
You will inevitably need to start emailing off to those webmasters in order to ask them to remove your link.
If in doubt, it's best to leave a link, or find a qualified consultant here at the Moz that can assist you in the analysis process.
Best of luck!

By the way, is this your Facebook page? https://www.facebook.com/pages/Uniggardin/152428571610
You seem to have over 2000 likes, but the Facebook like widget in the footer only shows 131. You should also set your page name: https://www.facebook.com/help/271607792873806
I don't think Facebook takes Facebook likes into account (we have over 1.6 million likes, and it does nothing for our SEO ranking), but it's definitely worth fixing.

I can clearly understand your frustration. Since you're running a shop selling curtains, getting good backlinks is not the easiest thing to do. Google does now allow you to pay for backlinks, and I doubt there are that many Danish sites out there specializing in curtains. The thinking goes that if lots of relevant sites link back to you, your ranking will improve as Google will think you have an important curtain site.
Try to see what the people currently ranking for "your keywords" are doing. Run a backlink report on them and check their backlinks. Building a high quality website is not enough, you have to know what pleases the Google algorithm at any given point in time. Perhaps you could try sending Matt Cutts some nice curtains for his house. Do you have penguin patterned curtains?

Hi
thats a pretty small drop. Not really penalty worthy. Build better links and drive more traffic. Plus, the algorithm is still changing now, so you will see changes within the next few weeks. Start building the good links now.
-
The best possible thing you can do immediately is build relevant, quality content and gain organic links to said content from actual sites that your potential customers might be coming from. This will help you regain. I'm assuming you don't have any manual notices in GWT? Therefore this is easy enough. Your Domain Authority is low, you need more SEO work, and that starts with marketing.
But of course, as I always say, SEO IS marketing is SEO. I just launched me a blog where I rant about that for awhile, in fact. It even has a Finkle is Einhorn video, but I digress.

Hey Anders,
There's a lot that would go into answering that question and it would probably be best to do a little leg work on your own to get an understanding of what's happened and the major steps you'll be be taking here in the near future. Moz has a bunch of threads dealing with that topic and I'd browse through those to start with.

My company wants to set up some blogs - what's best practice in getting started from scratch?
My company wants to set up two or three blogs (on previously unused domains) with the idea being to disseminate good content that gets picked up in SERPs and acts as a lead generator, shows us to be authorities in our market, creates brand (or individual employee who's doing the blogging) awareness etc... From scratch, what are all the boxes that should be ticked to make this work from the outset? What are the must haves? With all the ideals in place, how long could it realistically take to make this work? What are some pitfalls to look out for? Any advice in general will be appreciated. Thanks, M

Does Google Read URL's if they include a # tag? Re: SEO Value of Clean Url's
An ECWID rep stated in regards to an inquiry about how the ECWID url's are not customizable, that "an important thing is that it doesn't matter what these URLs look like, because search engines don't read anything after that # in URLs. " Example http://www.runningboards4less.com/general-motors#!/Classic-Pro-Series-Extruded-2/p/28043025/category=6593891 Basically all of this: #!/Classic-Pro-Series-Extruded-2/p/28043025/category=6593891 That is a snippet out of a conversation where ECWID said that dirty urls don't matter beyond a hashtag... Is that true? I haven't found any rule that Google or other search engines (Google is really the most important) don't index, read, or place value on the part of the url after a # tag.

Site's disappearnce in web rankings
I'm currently doing some work on a website: http://www.abetterdriveway.com.au. Upon starting, I detected a lot of spammy links going to this website and sort to remove them before submitting a disavow report. A few months later, this site completely disappeared in the rankings, with all keywords suddenly not ranked. I realised that the test website (which was put up to view before the new site went live) was still up on another URL and Google was suddenly ranking that site instead. Hence, I ensured that test site was completely removed. 3 weeks later however, the site (www.abetterdriveway.com.au) still remains unranked for its keywords. Upon checking Web Master Tools, I cannot see anything that stands out. There is no manual action or crawling issues that I can detect. Would anyone know the reason for this persistent disappearance? Is it something I will just have to wait out until ranking results come back, or is there something I am missing? Help here would be much appreciated.

We sold our site's domain and have a new one. Where do we go from here?
We recently sold our established domain -- for a compelling price -- and now have the task of transitioning to our new domain. What steps would you recommend to lesson the anticipated decline from search engines in this scenario?

Dynamic 301's causing duplicate content
Hi, wonder if anyone can help? We have just changed our site which was hosted on IIS and the page url's were like this ( example.co.uk/Default.aspx?pagename=About-Us ). The new page url is example.co.uk/About-Us/ and is using Apache. The 301's our developer told us to use was in this format: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^/Default.aspx$
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | GoGroup51
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^pagename=About-Us$
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.co.uk/About-Us/ [R=301,L] This seemed to work from a 301 point of view; however it also seemed to allow both of the below URL's to give the same page! example.co.uk/About-Us/?pagename=About-Us example.co.uk/About-Us/ Webmaster Tools has now picked up on this and is seeing it a duplicate content. Can anyone help why it would be doing this please. I'm not totally clued up and our host/ developer cant understand it too. Many Thanks0 -
I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out why google stopped crawling.. any help is appreciated
This is going to be kind of long, simply because there is a background to the domain name that is not typical to anybody in the world really and I'm not sure if its possible that it was penalized or ranked lower because of that or not. Because of that I'm going to include it with the hopes that giving the full picture some nice soul in the world who has more knowledge in this than me see's something or knows something and can point me in the right direction. Our site has been around for a few years, at one point the domain was seized by homeland security ICE, and then they had to give it back in Dec. which sparked a lot of the SOPA PIPA stuff and we became the poster child so to speak. The site had previously been up since 2008, but due to that whole mess the site was down for 13 months on the dreaded seized server with a scary warning graphic and site title which caused quite obviously a bunch of 404 errors and who knows what else damage to anything we'd had before that as far as page rank and incoming links. we had a lot of incoming links from high quality sites. We were advised upon getting the domain back to pretty much scrap all the old content that was on the site prior and just start fresh.. which we did. Googlebot started crawling slowly, but then as we started getting back into the swing of things people started linking to us,some with high page rank, we were getting indexed quite frequently and ranking high on search results in our niche.. Then something happened on March 4th, we had arguably our best day with google traffic, we'd been linked back by places like Huff Post etc for content in our niche.. and the next day literally it was a freefall. Darn near nothing. I've attached a screen shot from webmaster tools so you can see how drastic it was. I went crazy, trying to figure out what was wrong, searching obsessively through webmaster tools looking for any indication of a problem, searched the site on google site:dajaz1.com and what comes up is page 2 page 3 page 45 page 46. It's also taken to indexing our category and tag pages and even our search pages. I've now set those all to noindex follow but when I look at where the googlebots are at on the site, they're on the categories, pages, author pages, and tags. Some of our links are still getting indexed, but doing a search just of our site name and we're ranking below many of the media sites that have written about our legal issues, when a month ago we were at least top result for our own name. I've racked my brain trying to figure out the issue. I've disabled plugins, I'm on fetch as google bot all the time making sure our stuff is at least coming out as 200 (we had 2 days where we were getting 403 errors due to a super-cache issue, but once fixed googlebot returned like it never left) I've literally watched 1000 videos, read 100 forums, added in SEO plugins, tried to optimize the site to the point I'm worried I'm over doing it.. and still they've barely begun to crawl. As you can see there is some activity in the last 2-3 days, but even submitting a new site map once I changed the theme out of desperation it's only indexed 16. I've looked for errors all through webmaster tools and I can't find anything to tell me why that happened, how to fix it, and how to get googlebot to like us again. I'm pulling my hair out here. The links we have incoming are high quality links like huffington post , spin, complex, etc. Those haven't slowed down at all, we do outgoing links to sites we trust and are high quality as well. I've got interns working on how they're writing titles and such, I've gone through and attempted to fix duplicate pages and titles.. I've been going through and re-writing meta description tags What am I missing? I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out what the issue is. Eternally grateful for any help provided. jnzb6.png
