I do not want all my META descriptions to be unique.
-
Hi,
I have maybe 20 categories (new) that I really like to have the same Meta description for all of them. The category names call out the use of their respective products. but, all of these categories are related to a much bigger global initiative.
I don't have enough space in the title to discuss the individual terms as well as the broader project, so I would like the META to say something like "Products related to <this thing="" my="" customers="" care="" about="">from</this>
However, I am extremely paranoid about adding 20-25 meta descriptions that are identical, because Google.
Am I overthinking this and being paranoid about Panguin and Penda?

Without going over what others have said, which I agree with, it seems each page features one product, right?
So instead of "Products related to <this thing="" my="" customers="" care="" about="">from <my incredibly="" impressive="" brand="" name="">"</my></this>
why not... " related to <this thing="" my="" customers="" care="" about="">from</this>
Which would make it unique. Just a thought.

I agree with Allen. I would add that if the content of those 20 pages is so similar that they all should have the same meta description that could be a really bad thing. Pages don't need to be verbatim identical to be considered duplicate content. Google can consider them duplicates for content that is substantially similar, even if every word on the page is different. Check out Eric Enge's interview with Matt Cutts on this subject: http://www.stonetemple.com/matt-cutts-and-eric-talk-about-what-makes-a-quality-site/
I am hoping that these pages are indeed, 20 unique pages. If so, Allen is absolutely right. Go after what's unique about each one of those pages and you'll gather a wider range of potential traffic. If they aren't really unique pages, you're just cannibalizing your content and in the end, not really helping your own cause.

Joe,
Your NOT being overly cautious, but I do think your not thinking outside the box. The box being your 1 Meta Description you are trying to use.
Think about it this way, you cant control your customer, and you cant control their mind, you cant control what they search for. So your perceived problem is actually an opportunity to have 20 ways to describe your 1 Meta description. If the meta description your going after is "Pet Products" the chance that 100% of you audience is going to be searching for that exact term is pretty slim. One customer may search for "Pet Shampoo" yet you want them a customer or at least the opportunity to sell them "Pet Products" as long as they are a vertical, you might sell them something else.
So in my opinion you actually have 20 opportunities to optimize those pages for different keywords and cast a wider net at capturing a customer for your website.

Whats wrong with meta title? In SERP it looks different.
Hi, can someone tell me why my meta titles looks different in SERP? I use Prestashop CMS and meta title in many pages looks similair to this one: Puodų Rinkiniai | Puodai | Iki -40% Akcija | ŠefoSvajonė.lt And in SERP it looks like this: Puodų Rinkiniai - sefosvajone.lt. sefosvajone.lt Why can this be? Its freshly indexed. Rather than set Meta Title text it shows just name of the Product or Category and then shops adress twice or sometimes once. Thanks!

Meta tags - removal
A couple of months ago, I did something that has caused me great angst. My website unique visitors was on a steady growth path for about 3 years. I swapped out my SEO plugin, from all-in-one, to Yoast. I then removed all of my meta tags. My site has about 2000 unique posts. After doing that my unique visitors has been on a steady decline of me loosing traffic at a rate of 5 to 10% of my visits. Any thoughts on the best remediation plan I should use. I put back in the meta tags, but wasn't sure of the SEO plugin switch caused the issue.

Overlength Meta description
Hi, Has anyone got an answer to why a meta description would be showing characters well above 160. The current Meta description is only 10 characters in length but I wanted to know why Google would display so many characters. Cheers Phil

Adding meta description tags to Drupal 6 content
It looks as if a quick improvement to the (inherited) site that I manage would be to add meta description tags to all our pages. But I don't see a user-friendly way to modify the html headers from within Drupal. I'm debating whether to interpose CSS code between Drupal and the final html content, but I'd face a steep learning curve on CSS. Can you suggest a more excellent approach? Thanks!

How long does it take Google to index new title tags and meta descriptions?
Hi, I have launched a website ( www.bookkeepingking.com )and would like Google to reflect the latest title tag changes in its results. How long does it typically take to happen? I believe this might be one reason why the site may not be generating any search traffic yet, even though I haven't yet begun any link building yet. A couple of notes: When I enter site:bookkeepingking.com in the search box, the pages show up, but with the old/default title and meta descriptions. I am using the Yoast for SEO plugin I have resubmitted the XML map - Yoast created 2... /page-sitemap.xml and /post-sitemap.xml The changes were made about 1 week ago. WMT says that there are zero errors. Is there something I may have missed? Or do I just need to give it more time? Thanks in advance for your help. Erin

Meta description tags & title tags duplicate content?
Although meta description tags have no impact on rankings - can there be a negative effect from having many duplicate meta title + description tags with just 1-2 words switched out?
