Would adding a news page hurt my site ranking ?
-
Hi Mozers
I was thinking about adding an industry news page where we would post articles written by others but give proper citation and linking.
Would a page like this hurt my SEO ?
Thank You

I think the video Bereijk is helpful, but it also might be comforting to know that a lot of good sites, including Moz.com and Rand's blog often post links to their favorite content or make lists of recommended resources. Here are some examples:
From one of my favorite blogs, GetElastic, com: http://www.getelastic.com/choice-ecommerce-links-june-2013/
From Rand's blog: http://moz.com/rand/recommended-stuff/
I think if you curate content and put it all in one place in a unique and meaningful way it could actually be very helpful to visitors and end up helping you SEO. There's another site I saw recently that had snippets of SEO News at the bottom of the page with links for visitors to read the rest of the articles, but I can't find it at the moment. I thought it might have been Ahrefs.com or Majestic SEO, but it wasn't either of those. Does this sound familiar to anyone? If I find it I will come back and post it.

How to rank highly without much content?
Many pages on the web rank highly - even though they have no keyworded text. They might have listings, or just images. How do they achieve such high rankings? Is it just by getting lots of inbound links?

Should i 301 redirect my blog to the respective site or just 404 all the blog pages?
Hi guys, We plan to close down our blog, which is a subdomain to our anchor site. I need advice on how to keep the link juice and its SEO value. Is it better to 301 redirect the blog to the homepage of our site, or just 404 all the pages of the blog? Thanks

I allow authority sites to republish my blog articles, which then outrank me
Hey everyone. This is my first question here, I apologize if it has been covered before. I have a health and nutrition blog [authority nutrition] that has been up since December 1st, 2012. I've managed to write quite a few viral articles which have given me a bunch of natural links and a domain authority of 49, which I think is pretty great for such a new site. Haven't done any link building and everything is 100% white hat. Getting good rankings and good traffic already, so I can't complain. My only (1st world) problem is that sometimes major authority sites (DA of 70-95) republish my content. I always say yes if they ask me first, but some of them just republish without even asking. My articles are always indexed on my blog before they get republished, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. These sites always clearly link to the original URL, but they often tend to outrank me for the keywords I was targeting in the articles. They tend to rank in the top 5, but my original article is nowhere to be found. I plan on continuing to allow these sites to republish as I get powerful links and good traffic from them, but it's a bit frustrating that I don't seem to get the credit as the original source. I've already set up Google Authorship, but it doesn't seem to help. Is there anything I can do to make sure Google recognizes my article as the original and chooses to rank my site instead of the authority site that simply republished my article?

Displaying archive content articles in a writers bio page
My site has writers, and each has their own profile page (accessible when you click their name inside an article). We set up the code in a way that the bios, in addition to the actual writer photo/bio, would dynamically generate links to each article he/she produces. Figured that someone reading something by Bob Smith, might want to read other stuff by him. Which was fine, initially. Fast forward, and some of these writers have 3,4, even 15 pages of archives, as the archive system paginates every 10 articles (so www.example.com/bob-smith/archive-page3, etc) My thinking is that this is a bad thing. The articles are likely already found elsewhere in the site (under the content landing page it was written for, for example) and I visualize spiders getting sucked into these archive black holes, never to return. I also assume that it is just more internal mass linking (yech) and probably doesnt help the overall TOS/bounce/exit, etc. Thoughts?

RSS News
(By Google Traductor) Hi, within our community we have developed a news service (www.agroads.com.ar/noticias/) where we had about 30 sourcesrss. News grouped into categories and generate an internal link to see the details (and also a link to see the full story in the appropriate media). It is our first experience with a news site and wanted to know:

1. We keep track of all news from all media? (would be creating agreat sitemap in the future:)
2. We must clarify in the sitemap that are sources of news?
3. Google may consider it duplicate content?
4. We're taking data from different source types (html, video andpodcast), we must differentiate this content to index? Any other suggestions would be welcome.
Greetings!
