Diluting your authority - adding pages diluting rankings of other pages?
-
I'm looking after a site that has around 400 pages. All of these pages rank pretty well for the KW they are targetting.
My question is: if we add another 400 pages without doing any link building work, holding DA the same, 1) would the rankings of those 400 previously good pages diminish? and 2) Would the new pages, as more and more new ones are created, rank less and less well?
-
If the new pages are fantastic content, this will only help.
They will likely attract more inbound links if done well.
I would focus on ensuring that the link real estate (taxonomy, navigation) doesn't change in this case if you want to retain the rankings you have.
If the new pages are sub categories / children of the current pages, then link down to them from those pages, and back up to the current pages in breadcrumb (which will further reinforce those rankings)
Hope this helps!

I wouldn't worry about it. Add the 400 pages and make sure it has good content on it. Don't submit thin content. If you don't add those 400 new product pages, then you will miss out on new opportunities. Make sure you are NOT just copying the description from the manufacturer for duplicate content reasons.

Hi
Actually the 400 new pages would not be similar content at all, the site sells loads of products and these are just static product pages, all completely unique products that are not targetting the same KW.
So, the reality is that, creating new content will not "thin out" the page authority of the already existing pages?

Hi
What your saying has two ways of looking at it.
1. Adding new pages that target the or similar same keywords as the ranking pages will dilute those rankings as google will not have the one focused page to rank anymore
2. Adding new pages that dont target the same keywords will help rankings of the current pages (aslong as not targeting same or similar keywords) as google loves new content.
So with the above, if your going to create new content, dont go for 400 new pages all at once, try and create '2nd tier' pages that help support some of the '1st tier' pages which are ranking.
For example, say one of your ranked pages is a product page selling 'red dog collars' ranking for the the keyword 'red dog collars' - you could create a new page called 'how to correctly fasten a collar to your dog' which talks about this product in general terms - then you simply link this new page to your ranked product page thus achieving two goals in one go!
Hope the above makes sense and helps clarify your question!

Huge difference between GSC ranking and browser ranking for certain keywords: How to proceed?
Hi, There is a huge ranking difference between the GSC and browser for our primary keyword. As per GSC, our ranking is around 15 and when checking on the multiple different incognito browsers it's around 50. How to handle this? Which is the accurate one? Product expert from Google forums claim that what I see on browsers are the personalized results; but I tried on different browsers with different connections. Thanks

High clicks and low rankings - Correlation?
Hi everyone, we noticed while doing last month's reports that even the best performing campaigns have a few keywords that slipped - some up to 10 positions down. We know keywords fluctuate every month, but May was just a weird month for rankings. While looking at possible issues that caused this, we noticed that these campaigns' clicks have gone up. So while keywords have gone down, their visitors seemed to be on the rise. Is there a correlation? Maybe Google saw an increase in visitors and decided something's up and lowered the rankings (this sounds ridiculous - sorry! May just be pure luck, but thought I'd ask anyway). Has anyone seen a drop in their rankings for May also? I checked everywhere, and I don't think there has been a major update going on. Thanks!

Links from high Domain authority sites
I have a relatively uncompetitive niche ranking around number 6 for my keywords. Would getting a few links from some Moz DA 80-90 and DA 90-100 sites help my rankings a lot? Some of the pages linking to me from these sites might be deep in the site pretty far away from the home page with pagerank of "unranked" or a grayed out bar and these pages linking to me might not have many links at all other than from the internal links of the site itself and would have a Moz PA of 10 or 20. Would these pass much pagerank or authority to my site or would they not be worth going after? These links to my site would be in context on a blog. Thanks mozzers!

What are tips for ranking on Google Maps?
I have another thread going where everyone is saying to keep both the Places profile as well as the Google Plus Local profile I have for my company. I have another person telling me that it has a negative effect to have both accounts at the same time so I'm assuming thats why the listing never comes up on places unless you zoom all the way into the map to the address of the storefront. With that being said, can anyone provide some good tips for ranking first page on google maps? Do scraped or borrowed articles with my links still pass page rank?
I wrote some articles for Ezine Articles a few years back and i still see links in the ose to my site that are from these articles that were borrowed from the Ezine Articles bank. Do the links in these articles still count toward my site including link juice and anchor text or does google discount them as duplicate content? I was told that Google counts these links for about 3 weeks and then discounts them as duplicate content so it's like they don't exist. Any truth to this or should i make the articles on my site available for people to copy and paste into their blogs as long as they keep my links intact? Thanks, Ron
