Why Is this Website Not Ranking?
-
HI There - I have been working on this site: http://limohireauckland.co.nz - primarily for our keyword phrase 'limo hire Auckland' - I am running a campaign for this site from the Pro tools and using the pon-page report card this url achieves an A grade for that particular phrase. The client is working on links in the local community etc but we are not appearing in the SERPS at all for most of the phrases we are optimising for.
There has recently been a huge redesign on the site (approx 6 weeks ago) and the old content was not great.
Am I missing something really glaringly obvious? Or am I being too impatient?

Whatever they have could be bolstered by a true SEO campaign. Local resources and local networks sound like low authority links with little-to-no value.
I sincerely doubt they will succeed with this approach and I can't for the life of me figure why they would care if someone else was building links for them. They do realize I could go out and build links for their site on my own right this second, right? It's not some sort of weird intrusive/sacred ground or anything.... Wish I knew their reasoning but in the end I'd be absolutely shocked and amazed if this campaign succeeded and if I were you I'd respectfully decline knowing I couldn't do anything to help them if I can't even create links as an SEO... ?!
But good luck anyway!!

Hi Jesse,
Can't really go into too much detail about the client lol. Suffice to say they have a great local network which they will be tapping into.
Didn't think Yoast was going to be the answer but knew it had greater depth than All in One.

No problem... what kind of client is this? They want you to get them ranked but don't want you to build links? Those two things can not be separated and you need to explain this to them. That site will never ever be ranked at the rate it's generating backlinks. Period. No matter what Wordpress SEO plugin you use.
Don't expect Yoast to get it ranked. It's just easier to use and more feature-rich, that's all.
You need to convince these guys to let you handle links.. It doesn't make sense to me why they would care at all about this facet. Can you elaborate? My curiosity is piqued.

Hi Jesse,
Thanks for the feedback - unfortunately the client has said they will look after the links! So a bit stuck there. I have been reading a lot of great stuff about yoast so will update that asap.
Cheers

Couple quick things here:
1.) OSE is showing 3 Linking Root Domains. 3. That's... like... not enough, man. Sorry.
2.) I hate the all-in-one-seo pack. Try Yoast, you'll see a ton of better features for your Wordpress site.
Honestly though, you just need to create some content and build some links. You have very few links at all and the just-discovered report shows zero meaning none of them are recent. Google will not see your site as authoritative until you start resolving this. Also consider launching your Google + pages and all other socials.. Get listed in relevant places (BUT DON'T search for random directories, these won't help.) Only get listed if you truly think a potential customer will come across your link.
Build content, make it great, unique, and authoritative, and gain links organically after shopping around what you offer to relevant niche sites.
Good luck!

Ecommerce product rankings tank when procuct out of stock
When checking our weekly ranking update this morning I noticed that several products where down 2-3 pages (or even dropped from the first 50) from last week. Looking through these products, they share one common trait: these pages are for products that are no longer available or are temporarily out of stock (and have been for the last few weeks). I understand Google is looking at bounce rates, but do they also looks at our website (or Schema markup) to see if the product is in stock or not? We also use Google Shopping to they should have a pretty good understanding of our stock levels and the general availability of our products. If it's just a question of bounce rates, we could switch to pre-orders for our products (we don't take any order for out-of-stock products at the moment) or we could offer the more expensive versions with a discount. If Google is looking at inventory status, we could disable this to keep ranking high and increase our search presence. Any drawbacks on this? Just getting back in the SEO-game after a focus on the business processes so I could use some help here. We seen great improvements where we've stepped up and created great product descriptions, but it is really disheartening seeing products get dropped so easily.

Stolen Content reposted on other sites. How does this affect ranking?
Visitors often copy and paste my content and post it elsewhere... on Facebook, on Tumblr, on forums and sometimes on competing websites... but they don't link to me. How does Google treat this duplicated content? What is the best way to handle it? File DCMA claims or ask them for a link?

Table text : Does that influences the website's ranking ?
We are currently working on a new page for one of our clients and there is A LOT of writing, so A LOT of differents pages. If I decide to put the texts on table text instead of creating a link for another page, will that influence the ranking in any way ? I've been a web writer for only a year now and still try to figure out how to optimize the written part. Thank you for your answers.

Will Google penalise me for duplicating my own website on a new domain?
Hi guys, Currently, we are using Magento Enterprise to run two separate ecommerce websites, for arguments sake lets say these two websites are ElectronicsX.com and electronicsY.co.uk. ElectronicsX.com isn't doing too well, it has little traffic, makes next to nothing each month and is just a waste of resources. ElectronicsY.co.uk on the other hand is getting 30,000 unique visits every month and is over exceeding every month in terms of revenue in sales. At the moment, the only traffic we get from Europe tends to be the odd "word of mouth" customer and English customers who have emigrated to Europe but still like to use English companies. We can't rank on Google FR or ES or anything like that because the website we have "electronicsY" is on a .co.uk TLD (a GeoTLD). So what we want to do is take ALL the content from electronicsY.co.uk and place it on electronicsX.com so that we can start targeting Europe and ranking in the serps internationally. What sort of effect will that have in terms of penalisation from Google? Or because the websites are on the same C block, would it have any effect at all? Thanks guys Tom

Overnight Drop In Rankings
Over the last size eight weeks we have been doing all of our own SEO with the help of reading this forum and asking questions, prior to this we had an SEO company from India who were only doing articles and promoting them. We have been using various keywords by writing them into our own blogs, to check how we have been doing I have monitored two main keywords, when we started, our choice keyword was on page three, on Monday it had moved up to number one on page two, today it is now back on page three, have we been hit by the Penquin update, if so would I have received a warning in WMT, a lot of my other keywords across the site have moved down although some have moved up, we are retailers not SEO experts so it is a big blow to move down when everyone has worked hard, looking at some pages I do have some pages that look as though they have been keyword stuffed, I have altered some of them to see if anything changes, I have also look at some of the links but how do I know if I am doing the right thing?

800 number on website
Hi, My client just sent me an 800 number that he would like to use to replace his number on the website. I know that it is best to keep a local phone number on the website and across all citations for NAP/Local SEO reasons. Is there anywhere that I could still incorporate the 800 number and not have it affect SEO? Thanks, Erin

New website launch - Dupilicate content question
Hi, We are going to be launching a US version of our UK E-commerce web store. The US version will be a standalone site, separate URL/hosting etc. My question is that the US website will carry the same products as the UK site - will the product copy have to be written differently for the US website in order to avoid any SEO duplicate copy? Thanks
