1 site on 2 domains (interesting situation, expert advice needed)

Dear all,
i have read many posts about having one content on 2 different domains, how to combine those two to avoid duplicate content. However the story of my two domains makes this question really difficult.
Domain 1: chillispot.org ( http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=chillispot.org )
The original site was on this domain, started 9 years ago. That time the owner of the domain was not me. The site was very popular with lots of links to it. Then after 5 years of operation, the site closed. I have managed to save the content to:
Domain 2: chillispot.info ( http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=chillispot.info )
The content i put there was basically the same. Many links were changed to chillispot.info on external sites when they noticed the change. But lots of links are still unchanged and pointing to .ord domain. The .info is doing well in search engines (for example for keyword 'chillispot').
Now i managed to buy the original chillispot.org domain. As you can see the domain authority of the .org domain is still higher than the .info one and it has more valuable links.
Question is: what would be the best approach to offer content on both domains without having penalized by google for duplicated content? Which domain should we keep the content on? The original .org one, which is still a better domain but not working for several years or the .info one who has the content for several years now and doing well on search engines?
And then, after we decide this, what would be the best approach to send users to the real content?

Ok we are trying this approach. We have set up the 301 redirection for all URLs from .info as the content is exactly the same on .org.
We will see how it will work.
About your side note: all links were created by users of the site, we didnt do any link building strategy yet. It seems they are all using the brand keyword to link from us.

Sounds like a complex situation, but it really isn't all that hard to discern. This is the approach I would take on the matter. Looking over the initial MOZ Explorer crawl data, it's a close call for sure.
1. First, the old .org domain, which you just recently re-acquired still has old links pointing to it and good value.
2. The .info domains still don't have or generate as much 'trust and authority' as other TLD's like .com, .ca, .org. I would seriously consider moving back to the .org TLD.
3. Any links you haven't been able to switch over or have little to no control over (and would take a ton of time and resources to have switched over to the .info domain). Redirect all the pages, and the link values being passed will still count when pooled to the new .org domain. Value will still stand, even losing some value in the 301.
4. If you do decide to use the .org domain, make sure to plan out a seriously detailed 301 redirect plan (TLD, sub domains/folders and all pages) when looking to move and migrate data over to the older .org domain. Not taking the time to plan this out would cause very negative ripples in your current and future SEO endeavors This is a very careful area, but needs to be watched carefully.
5. Avoid running both sites side by side. This will surely cause duplicate content issues. Choose 1 domain, redirect all the other value, content, etc through 301's, canonical's and migration procedures and have all the value sitting within one site. Build your marketing, social and search platform around one site/brand and work from there
On a side note looking at your linking data from OSE:
Your actual main text linking revolves around your brand name almost 80-90% of the time, which isn't all bad, but you might want to start looking at alternative ways to generate links to your site, using some of your product descriptions and through content generation. Try to vary the amount of links and types of link test being used to link to you from other sites. Don't sculpt your links, but rather include ways to evolve your current linking practices.

Yes. As Kurt said the DA and link-juice will carry over via 301 redirects meaning whichever site is redirected will benefit the site that it's redirecting to. If I were you I'd redirect to the site that's currently being ranked well in Google as this will limit any fluctuation you may have in the SERPs. Even though the other domain has a longer legacy, if it isn't currently being listed in SERPs for your target keyword then you might be waiting awhile for the whole thing to propagate and sort itself out.

From google's point of view the .org domain is older and it had the original content first. Does that count?

I would choose one domain to go with instead of keeping content on two. From what you've said, you don't really need two sites, you are just thinking about having two sites because of domain authority. Just redirect one domain to the other and combine the sites. If both sites already have the same content, then try to redirect each page to its corresponding page, if possible. That will make for an easier transition. Using 301 redirects will pass the authority from the redirected domain/pages to the other domain, increasing it's authority.
As for which domain to keep, I'd go with the one that's getting the most user traffic. From what you've said, it sounds like that is the .info site.
By combining the sites, you won't have to worry about an approach for sending people to the "real" content. There will only be one place for the content and it will (hopefully) all be real. You'll also be able to focus all your attention to building up the one site instead of spitting your efforts.

Does redirecting from a "bad" domain "infect" the new domain?
Hi all, So a complicated question that requires a little background. I bought unseenjapan.com to serve as a legitimate news site about a year ago. Social media and content growth has been good. Unfortunately, one thing I didn't realize when I bought this domain was that it used to be a porn site. I've managed to muck out some of the damage already - primarily, I got major vendors like Macafee and OpenDNS to remove the "porn" categorization, which has unblocked the site at most schools & locations w/ public wifi. The sticky bit, however, is Google. Google has the domain filtered under SafeSearch, which means we're losing - and will continue to lose - a ton of organic traffic. I'm trying to figure out how to deal with this, and appeal the decision. Unfortunately, Google's Reconsideration Request form currently doesn't work unless your site has an existing manual action against it (mine does not). I've also heard such requests, even if I did figure out how to make them, often just get ignored for months on end. Now, I have a back up plan. I've registered unseen-japan.com, and I could just move my domain over to the new domain if I can't get this issue resolved. It would allow me to be on a domain with a clean history while not having to change my brand. But if I do that, and I set up 301 redirects from the former domain, will it simply cause the new domain to be perceived as an "adult" domain by Google? I.e., will the former URL's bad reputation carry over to the new one? I haven't made a decision one way or the other yet, so any insights are appreciated.

Linking from & to in domains and sub-domains
What's the best optimised linking between sub-domains and domains? And every time we'll give website link at top with logo...do we need to link sub-domain also with all it's pages? If example.com is domain and example.com/blog is sub-domain or sub-folder... Do we need to link to example.com from /blog? Do we need to give /blog link in all pages of /blog? Is there any difference in connecting domains with sub-domains and sub-folders?

Launching a new website. Old inherited site cannot be saved after lifted penalty. When should we kill the old site and how?
Background Information A website that we inherited was severely penalized and after the penalty was revoked the site still never resurfaced in rankings or traffic. Although a dramatic action, we have decided to launch a completely new version of the website. Everything will be new including the imagery, branding, content, domain name, hosting company, registrar account, google analytics account, etc. Our question is when do we pull the plug on the old site and how do we go about doing it? We had heard advice that we should make sure we run both sites at the same time for 3 months, then deindex the old site using a noindex meta robots tag.We are cautious because we don't want the old website to be associated in any way, shape or form with the new website. We will purposely not be 301 redirecting any URLs from the old website to the new. What would you do if you were in this situation?

New site. How important is traffic for a new site? And what about domain age?
Hi guys. I've been building a new site because i've seen a real SEO opportunity out there. I'm a mixing professional by trade and so I wanted to take advantage of SEO to help gain more work. Here's the site: www.signalchainstudios.co.uk I'm curious about domain age. This site fairly well optimised for my keywords, and my site got pretty good content on it (i think so anyway). But it's no where to be seen on the SERP's (link at all). Is this just a domain age issue? I'd have though it might be in the top 50 because my site's services are not hard to rank for at all! Also what about traffic? Does Google want to see an 'active' site before it considers 'promoting' it up the ranks? Or are back links and good content the main factor in the equation? Renaming your domain from an existing live domain and SEO implications - Please Help *shudder*
Please see the details below. Site A: http://south-african-holiday.mobi is an existing site that is our best site. It is Joomla 3.1 and runs all our ecommerce. Site B: http//www.southerncircle.com/ is our original and has the best DA but is out of date and pretty clunky. joomla 1.5 and all bookings (tour site) are redirected to Site A for processing. Instead of redesigning the Site A I'd like to change the domain name of http://south-african-holiday.mobi -> http://southerncircle.com So far my reading and research (Thanks MOZ for awesome forum!) has provided me with: 1. Do the SEO groundwork. i.e. remove dead links from both sites. Delete useless content and generally tidy up both sites. 2. Map all pages from site a: http://southerncircle.com -> http://south-africa-holiday/ so that the existing pages that have good ranking will have a home on the new site. 3. When ready do a small sample 301 redirect from: http://southerncircle.com to http://south-africa-holiday.mobi. 4. arghhhh now I'm stuck ..... If I redirect to this site then I lose my http://southerncircle.com domain which is what I want to keep....I just want the .mobi site to move to the southerncircle.com site.... I don't consider myself totally thick but this is really confuseing the *$%# out of me PLEASE could you give me some insight here. I'm sure it has been done before without completely losing the sites seo ranking and sending my site into SEO oblivion. If there are any JOOMLA gurus that have done this I'd love to hear from you as well. Many thanks in advance.

Age of a re-directed domain same as age of a static domain?
I know domain age plays a role in SEO--but, I am wondering if a domain is set up to 301 re-direct to another domain if it builds the same amount of authority over time as the static domain--just looking at age as a ranking factor, not links accumulated over time.

Need help/insights. Site SEO = OK, Authority BLs = OK, Rank page #1\. How to reach pos #1?
Hi there! Some doubts are confusing my head and need some assistence from you to get on the right track. I'll explain my situation and want to hear from you what do you really recommend for med/long term permanent results. 1 - I have a PR2 (.com.br) domain; 2 - I'm talking about little/med competition micro-niche keywords; 3 - I got all pages I want to, indexed (I have a well SEO constructed website with internal link building); 4 - If a keyword has average competition, I'll already start ranking in page #3 on the SERP's; For a few low competition keywords I start on page #1; 5 - I do a little whitehat link building, 1 or 2 backlinks on authority sites and then like 15 days later I came to page #1, generally on position 9/10; And then I got stucked 🙂 No more authority sites where I can get backlinks... I do some posts on the company twitter/facebook page's, but they are no follow, so I don't really now if this can help. (never see a SERP result). I did some "blackhat" stuff to see if it really work: I can say for sure the "profile backlinks" that we can buy from some sites doesn't work (maybe it's just for me). I can't see it on webmaster tool and neither my ranks changed since I bought a pack of 100 links (the links are working, I see it one by one) to test. Maybe the problem is about the domains, cause my site is .com.br and I'm buying .com profile links. I guess google understand backlinks from .com.br more valuable for my sites. Back to whitehat: I wrote some articles and posted it the right way, of course on .com.br articles sites, got it indexed and can see the backlink on webmaster tool, but no change on SERP's. (maybe this can be a long term result and I'm not seeing it yet). I'm really "scratching my hand" to do some blackhat stuff, but I don't want to lose what I already have done... I heard a lot about scrapebox but doesn't fell confortable to spam as hell a lot of blogs. I really want long term permanent results (my sites are totally whitehat/corporate sites). Can you expert guys give me some point to where I need to "walk" now to improve the SERP's? I never reached top #1 and want to try to rank at least one time to understand how this can be made... I'm thinking now to pay someone to rewrite 20 copies of an article and up it on some sites, to see if 20 can improve something. But still no confident, because it will cost like $100 for a good writer do it for me on my language. Maybe I can do better things with 100 bucks. I guess I did the path right: Internal SEO -> got indexed -> backlinking from authorities -> new articles backlinks to me (is it ok at this position or no?) -> (what next ?) I know SEO is a hard/never ending work, but what I'm trying to get cleaned on my head is the path of the work (if a right path really exists). Every word will be apreciated. What do you can suggest to me to try now? (please give me a hint to see SERP's results 🙂 if I feel that something worked, no matter how it can cost to me, but I'll pay for the work happily) Sorry if I'm a little confusing, english isnt' my first language.
