Any SEO thoughts about Google's new Data Highlighter for products?
-
After searching around on the web for a while I couldn't find any case studies or interesting posting about Google's new feature to highlight structured data. In Google Webmaster Tools you can now tag your products to be displayed as structured data in Google's search results. Two questions that rose immediately:
1. What effect will Google's new Data Hightlighter for products have on your SEO? Can we expect better CTR's for productspage results in Google? Better conversion rates perhaps? Any case studies that show KPI improvements after using structured data for products?
2. I would love to see some examples in the search results to see what productpages would look like after Data Highlighting it.
Your thoughts or input about this subject will be much appreciated.

Hi SDIM, unfortunately I'm not in a position to be posting specific URL's as these are live client sites. I have noted a few URL's that did get picked up properly showing their product review scores similar to IMDB listings. As demonstrated at: How Rich snippets/schema markup help SEO.
However as I have said it's very picky about actually using the data sets provided, I would recommend using Schema markup in the site template/layout if possible versus relying on Google's highlighting tool.

I have been testing this on some of my clients accounts, but without no effect so far.

Hi James, thanks for you feedback. Would you care to share some sample search terms where you ecommerce site did show up with mark-up in the SERP results?
-
Although not related directly to data highlighter for products, I have used data highlighter for events. Like James says, Google seems to have a problem identifying a set even though I've added multiple examples. I terms of performance, it's only been a month or so since it was set up but there has been no discernable impact so far.

I've used the tool on a single domain in a shop environment, unfortunately I've seen little to no effect. I did notice however that Google's tool is relatively poor at picking up it's own highlights once set. This may just be my personal experience with the tool though.
I have on the other hand used schema mark-up on another eCommerce site and seen not only improved CTR, but the SERP results returned have tended to be more accurate and useful (in my eyes) for customers/potential customers.

Google Search Console Not Indexing Pages
Hi there! I have a problem that I was hoping someone could help me with. On google search console, my website does not seem to be indexed well. In fact, even after rectifying problems that Moz's on-demand crawl has pointed out, it still does not become "valid". There are some of the excluded pages that Google has pointed out. I have rectified some of the issues but it doesn't seem to be helping. However, when I submitted the sitemap, it says that the URLs were discoverable, hence I am not sure why they can be discovered but are not deemed "valid". I would sincerely appreciate any suggestions or insights as to how can I go about to solve this issue. Thanks! Screenshot+%28341%29.png Screenshot+%28342%29.png Screenshot+%28343%29.png

Google loves me. Yahoo and Bing not so much...
My site is ranked very high for my keywords on Google and Google Maps. But we come in 4 or 6 places lower on the other two search engines. Does any one have any pointers on the different types of algorithms they use? Many thanks in advance:)

Ecommerce - SEO Quick Wins?
Hi I wanted to find out if anyone had any quick wins for an ecommerce site & SEO. I am the only SEO and we have a small online team and an ecommerce site with thousands of product pages. It's impossible to optimise everything, and we have taken the top 100 products and optimised them - starting from scratch with keyword research. I'm now struggling to prioritize what we need next - I know we need better internal linking, content, social and lots more, but this isn't something I can get through alone. I need a starting point and perhaps something with a quick win initially? Thanks 🙂

Product shows as out of stock?
Hi, A clients product is showing as out of stock on Google search when I type in the brand/product name. When it is in fact in stock. They have fetched and also fetched and rendered but no joy. Yesterday it went back into stock, then today back out of stock again, but hasn't been out of stock at all on the website, so not sure why it is doing it. When I do the fetch it shows up as in stock at £29.99 on the search it shows as out of stock at £39.99 Platform is EKM Powershop. I contacted them first of all and they insisted the problem was nothing to do with them. Any ideas?

FLASH vs HTML links in SEO
In terms of a small flash slideshow and having text and links on various slides within, is such text and links as easily index-able (or even at all) compared to static html text on a webpage?

Does my overly dynamic website hurt my SEO?
I have heard from a couple of people that my overly dynamic URL's hurt my SEO tremendously. Can anyone verify that? Of course my provider says it doesn't matter but I take what they say with a grain of salt. Another thing, my web crawls show a TON of errors for duplicate page title and overly dynamic url and duplicate page content. How big of a deal is this? http://www.nvclothing.com
