Optimising /product/ pages for our 15,000 product ecommerce store.
-
Hi guys!
We're constantly working on evolving our /product/ pages on the site, however some times it's pretty easy to get lost in your own mess. Especially when the sites consists of 15,000+ products. So it's pretty painful to handcraft every single page.
So I thought I'd jump in here to see if anyone had any suggestions for stuff we're missing, and or should improve?
These are product pages:
- http://www.warcom.com.au/products/49884_warcom-deluxe-double-lcd-monitor-stand---free-shipping
There is a few issues we're aware of already..
Negatives:
- To many links in the left menus.
- To many links in the footer.
Positives:
- We recently included rich snippets..
- We're always testing out colors and styles.
- We're always testing meta data.
Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Paul. -
Hi Andrea,
We went through the process of using optimisely for a little while, but we didn't really think it was worth while in the end.
People don't just buy based on colors, or wording changes, so making such minute changes and seeing +/- a few percentages, doesn't accurately tell us a lot ..
So we put a lot more emphasis on just choosing the current color trends, title trends, image trends, etc.
Paul.

Hi Paul,
We recently optimized a store with 1000 products. Here are some tricks
- Use Product Schemas http://schema.org/Product
- Use concatenation formulas to add more descriptive words to each product. For example =concatenate(cell with generic concept ketword, " ", Product name)
Your site looks very optimized and nice. I noticed you added images for the tables instead of creating them with HTML so that the content can be picked up by Google. THis may be something to improve. Also instead of having a long page you might want to throw your information on tabs. Google reads them as lists and it makes the page look prettier. Here is an example

Hello Paul,
I agree with you, there are too many links everywhere and it is a bit confusing.
I would review the left menu and make it a bit slimmer to improve usability. Also the links in the footer (Product range) don't really do anything. I think most customer go through the left menu or search box so I would definitely get rid of them and put the other links with the information at the bottom. Have a look on Analytics/ In-page analytics if those links receive any clicks, if not just take them off.
Also, the information that people might want to know should be closer to the product, so the customers can quickly scan the page and see if that is what they want instead of going through the whole page and look for it.

We had the same issue! There was a lot of desire to optimize everything, which, of course, is nearly impossible for that many pages and content that can be so similar. So we shifted our strategy to focus on the right pages, knowing that as pages got much more niche Google would still index them for very specific terms. With our focus on harder/broader terms, we were able to craft what we wanted for more competitive terms and also, like you, spend time focusing on things like rich snippets.
Are you doing any A/B testing, is that how you're changing out colors and such? That's been really interesting for us, same with changing the call to action wording.

Individual statistics (not aggregated) for 'local pack' and 'organic search results' when both on the same page
Hi, For a particular keyword combination we show up on the local pack but also on the organic search results on the 1st page. I have never been able to find out what the CTR, #clicks, conversions for this two different kinds of positions are individually. The aggregate figures I can find out in Google Search Console / Analytics, but I would like to know on an individual level as I am testing out different things. With the statistics on Google My Business I can't get along actually...no CTR as far as i know. Any hint? Cheers, Cesare

How To Rank Landing Pages In The SERPs
Hi, am hoping someone can give me a little advice.. We have created an Ebook for a client, which we will ‘hide’ behind a landing page for the purpose of collecting email addresses in return for a link to the Ebook. We are thinking of using Unbounce landing pages, integrated with Mailchimp. The problem however is that I’m assuming it will not be possible for Unbounce landing pages to rank well in the SERPs.. which is essential. The obvious solution would be to write a blog post detailing the contents of the Ebook, and then to ‘SEO’ this post.. this however will not provide a positive user experience as below; Visitor lands on blog post Visitor then has to click through to Ubounce landing page (very similar content) Visitor completes form to download Ebook My question is; What’s the best way to rank a direct landing page in the SERP’s, whilst providing the best possible user experience (less steps)? Many thanks in advance, your time is appreciated 🙂 Lee.

Which eCommerce Platform?
Dear MOZ community members We currently run a custom built IIS/ASP/SQL Server system that is starting to fall apart and needs major overhaul. I'm currently evaluating a number of open source eCommerce platforms (Magneto, OpenCart) and would welcome any advice that some of you may have. We are not a major brand, but we have a good name in our field which we wish to maintain and we ranking very well for our top phrases despite not having SEO-friendly URLs amongst other things. I've downloaded Magneto and installed it on a LAMP could server and got it up and running. It looks very flexible, albeit a little bloated and I can concerned that it's a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Do any other small businesses have experience with Magneto? Thanks for your time! andy www.prendas.co.uk

Landing Pages
My question is with regards to my Adwords campaign. Is it best practice to have the user, or potential customers, land on a single page landing page or to an actual website? Does a single page landing page, with no other links, help with conversion? i would be greatful for any opionion.

Checkout abandonment fix w/ Shopify?
Hey everybody. I run a digital product site on Shopify. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with on page fixes for checkout abandonment? On my site... 31% of people add to cart & never get to checkout. 66% of people reaching checkout abandon their checkouts. Obviously a lot of sales are flying out the window. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
