Any value in link building to local pages on my site?
-
If I'm trying to rank for the term 'wedding band' with my url:
http://www.musicliveuk.com/home/wedding-bands
will linking to local pages such as:
http://www.musicliveuk.com/live-acts/hire-wedding-bands/wedding-bands-london
help the main page to rank?
I added the 'local' pages to try and pick up any traffic from long tail search queries but my main focus is on getting the main page to rank as the traffic from long tail queries is so small.
So is it worth me spending time building links to these local pages in order to try and help the main page rank?

Hi Samuel,
Link building to the localized pages won't help your pursuit of ranking the main page for the term 'wedding bands', however it will help the individual pages rank for the localized terms (Manchester Wedding Bands etc), which in turn will lead to more targeted traffic coming into the site (which I assume is the ultimate goal?)
In terms of the localized link building; try and 'think local' when you come to picking your targets. Of course, you want the links to be coming from authoritative domains, however relevancy also plays a big part, so getting a link from a Manchester lifestyle blog to your Manchester wedding bands page will be a great signal.
If you are looking to rank the local pages, the first thing I would suggest is putting in a suitable navigational structure to get to them. From first glance at your site, it seems you can only get to these pages using a site search, which isn't great for users or the search engines.
Best of luck with the site, let me know if you want any advice.
Thanks,
David

What will the SECOND link from a site do for me
Say I have an opportunity to get another link from a high authority site that has already linked an important article from me (a page I REALLY want to rank well). Now a month later, they are interviewing me and asking what I'd like to link. I have plenty of good content I can offer, but I really want that page they already linked to to climb a bit in the rankings. So my question is, how is that second link best spent? Would linking to the same page give it a boost? Or does Google see it as "oh. Another link from the same domain. Yippee." Would that link do more for a different page on my site at this point?

Links from non existant sites?
Hi! I'm new at all this 🙂 I've taken a look at the backlink profile for one of my sites as it's seems its been hit by this last Penguin update. I'm finding links to my homepage from sites that no longer exist, like this one: http://mikimoto-pearls.org - does this hurt my backlink? I mean, I would figure it does since there's nothing there? If so, how do I get the link removed? Do I even need to? Disavow tool maybe? Thank you!

Are the following considered bad links for Link Building.
I've been doing a lot of research lately on link building & I've read a lot about having a diverse amount of links. Social links, Blog links, comment links, footer links, No follow links, Directory links as well as links with Anchor text URL match, brand match, partial brand match, non-descriptive, and with keywords. But there is a lot of talk of removing those links that look like a site that's built just for link building purposes.... but Directories are basically built for link building are they not? I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if they feel links from the following directories would be bad links. (Non-Paid) http://www.yoganza.com http://www.wkool.com http://www.wee-directory.com http://www.voicelet.com www.hotfrog.ca http://www.webdirectorieslist.com http://multiplelistingboard.com http://mozdirectory.net http://freedirectorypr.info Industry specific below: http://bestautolinks .com http://automotivedome.com http://automobilebuzz.com http://craigsautolinks.com Thanks so much for the help!

Link Location: In main page or inner "Link" page?
My question is what´s best of Link Building: have it in main page or in internal Link Pages. I have the problem that have to reduce the number of outgoing links in my mainpage to rank better, but do not want to miss any linkjuice. How Linking in Main Page or Internal Pages affects SERP for your website? And should they be Follow or not Follow? Thanks in advance Maria Jesus
