On-page grader question
-
Hi there,
Getting to know the Pro tools and can't find an answer to this. Can someone explain for me please?
Using on page grader, I found a couple pages with an F. I scrolled downWTO where it shows the keyword phrases and under each, the URL.
Clicking on the first keyword "Building site alarms"it tells me off essentially for not optimising the page for that term. The URL is "construction site security systems" which are different to building site alarms which also have their own page. I don't understand why is Moz associating this keyword with this page? I certainly haven't told it to.

Hey Si,
That report is there because that URL is ranking for the keyword. The On-Page tool reports on any URL that is ranking for a keyword regardless of how optimized it is for that keyword.
I hope that helps.
Thanks!

Hi Joel,
Thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately i am still none the wiser. I still don't understand why grader is telling me that the page http://www.compoundsecurity.co.uk/security-equipment/construction-site-security-alarm-systems is badly optimised (page rated as F) when it is actually optimised for 'construction site alarm systems. http://www.compoundsecurity.co.uk/security-equipment/gsm-gprs-wireless-battery-powered-building-site-security-systems is optimised for 'building site alarms'. I can see no reason why.
I am only a beginner at this, so any further advice you can give using words of two syllables or less would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Si

Hi there,
Thanks for the question.
You want to remember that the On-Page reports are generated one of two ways. They can be generated manually in the On-Page report card, or, as is the case here, they can be automatically generated from any Keyword/URL combination that is ranking in the top fifty.Essentially that page ranks #3 for that keyword, so it gets an on-page report.
I hope that helps.
Cheers,

The system works to identify the most relevant page to that keyword, and then grade it. So, by not identifying your target page as the one associated with the keyword you have one of two problems:
1. Your appropriate page hasn't been indexed by the Moz Bot.
2. Your appropriate page isn't as relevant as that one.
If your website isn't being indexed properly then you need to adjust your internal linking. If it is being indexed, then you need to take the steps to make your targeted page more relevant to the keyword. Start with the URL, Title and H1.

How do I find out which pages are being indexed on my site and which are not?
Hi, I doing my first technical audit on my site. I am learning how to do an audit as i go and am a lost. I know some page won't be indexed but how do I: 1. Check the site for all pages, both indexed and not indexed 2. Run a report to show indexed pages only (i am presuming i can do this via screaming Frog or webmaster tool) 3. I can do a comparison between the two list and work out which pages are not being indexed. I'll then need to figure out way. I'll cross this bridge once i get to it Thanks Ben

Are there any alerts available for when a page stops ranking in top 50?
Hi At the moment I am doing this manually through Moz by going to the keyword and seeing what urls are ranking for it. I was just wondering whether I am missing a trick on moz or any other programs that would send me an alert every time a page that is ranking suddenly drops out? Thanks in advance.

Duplicate page titles in SEOMoz
My on page reports are showing a good number of duplicate title tags, but they are all because of a url tracking parameter that tells us which link the visitor clicked on. For example, http://www.example.com/example-product.htm?ref=navside and http://www.example.com/example-product.htm are the same page, but are treated as to different urls in SEOMoz. This is creating "fake" number of duplicate page titles in my reports. This has not been a problem with Google, but SEOMoz is treating it like this and it's confusing my data. Is there a way to specify this as a url parameter in the Moz software? Or does anybody have another suggestion? Should I specify this in GWT and BWT?

Any way to see if google penalizes them for there tactics or if that can hurt me by them linking to me or whatever? I am at the beginning of a link building mission, but want to ensure that I do it methodically and correctly as possible based on the combines wisdom of this community. Thanks for your help, Steven

Dynamic URL pages in Crawl Diagnostics
The crawl diagnostic has found errors for pages that do not exist within the site. These pages do not appear in the SERPs and are seemingly dynamic URL pages. Most of the URLs that appear are formatted http://mysite.com/keyword,%20_keyword_,%20key_word_/ which appear as dynamic URLs for potential search phrases within the site. The other popular variety among these pages have a URL format of http://mysite.com/tag/keyword/filename.xml?sort=filter which are only generated by a filter utility on the site. These pages comprise about 90% of 401 errors, duplicate page content/title, overly-dynamic URL, missing meta decription tag, etc. Many of the same pages appear for multiple errors/warnings/notices categories. So, why are these pages being received into the crawl test? and how to I stop it to gauge for a better analysis of my site via SEOmoz?

Unanswered Questions
Hey SEOMoz I have been spending a bit of time in the Q&A of late and have noticed lots of questions never get answered. I also had a question of my own that I left open for ages and I figured it maybe a good idea to add some kind of email nag or on screen notification for people to close old questions. There are some that have had plenty of answers but that either never get closed & really, it takes away from the fun of participating if things are never closed off & searching shows the same old tired, answerd but not closed questions lingering around like a bad smell. 🙂 Not really a question, but a little tweak suggestion. 🙂 Cheers
