How can I "target keywords"?
-
Hello everyone,
Could you please explain how can I "target keywords"? So from my understanding, I do a research on keywords, then find those which I can rank for easily, and then what? Do I build links to my website pages with these keywords? Or do I create different articles on the website with this keyword?

Have you run any campaigns on FB, Twitter G+ for the page you want to rank?
No. we just have company pages on the social networks
-
What you are asking here is essentially "What is SEO and how do I do it?"
Well it's kind of an incredibly long answer and explanation and basically in order to truly master what you are after it will require you to spend some time learning the trade. These forums are a great place to do that, but probably not the best place to start. Moz does have some great resources to get you started, however. I would head this direction and read through every last page they offer if I were you: http://moz.com/learn/seo

Both will work... You want Google to see your site as authoritative so the more content/pages you have for those terms the better..
Social is becoming more and more important so if you can create something shareable on the page you want to rank for the better it will rank...

- Content
- Title
- Header
- and URL
So let's I have done so, but most of the competitors have the same stuff. lets say I take a keyword "best savings rates", and of course most of the competitors have the same keyword distribution. Can I outrank them by writing another article on different topic but which targets the same keyword? Will this help? Or should I build links around this page (best savings rates)?

"Targeted Keywords" are usually competitive terms. What if you club more contextual keywords, terms(long-tails), questions.and create valuable content around it.
Same time, based on same subject you can make and embed some cool Powerpoint PPT(Slideshare), infographics (Pinterest) on same page.
Ensure download time, Typography and overall elegance.
This is what you are targeting audiences and not keywords. Keywords are means. Its ok to analyze search volumes of keywords (I bet they always are approximate, non-accurate and fluctuating)Serve "intent" of the search not "Search Terms"

Hi,
You will need to create content that has these keywords in it. You will then need to optimize the page that your content is on. If your keywords are in the:
- Content
- Title
- Header
- and URL
You can be sure that when Google index your page you will start ranking for these keywords.
This is just one way to optimize your page for your keywords... make sure you also add share buttons for poeple to share your page socially. Don't forget that if you want people to do this make sure you create great content that people will find interesting and want to share.
Hope this helps

Where else can I get search volumes from?
We use Keyword Planner to get a rough idea if a keyword has search volumes and worth tracking. But recently, it's showing zeroes (all locations) for very broad search terms such as "corn seed" "sorghum seed" "canola seed" and all variations of these three with "seed" in the phrase. We checked trends and there are searches for it. Has keyword planner gone bonkers? There were search volumes for corn, canola and sorghum variations, just not words with "seed", which is very odd. "corn grain" has 9,900 searches and "canola plant" has 5,400 searches, for example. "canola seed" has 201-500 searches on Moz, so keyword planner, I think really filtered out seed words. Is there another tool where we could just copy/paste or import a list and it'll show us the search volumes? I uploaded words on Moz, but we can only get search vol ranges and mostly don't have data yet for Australian searches. Does SEMRush have this capability too? I couldn't seem to find where to upload a list. If Google just filtered out these words, is there a way to get around it?

How can we stop an article ranking so highly?
We secured an article on national newspaper site for a client which now ranks number one for its own branded search term. Since we secured the article (over two years ago) the client has changed the direction of its business so the article is now no longer relevant and is actually causing a lot of trouble for the client. When people search for their business the article is telling readers one thing when their business actually does something else. How can we stop this article ranking so highly?

Do "search keywords" matter?
I've been getting conflicting accounts about this. We aways fill out the Title Tag, Meta Description and Product Tags(<- for internal purposes) but we are concerned about how important the "search keywords" are. We use bigcommerce and they describe their value as this: "the search keywords are optional, but if entered will be used for two things. First, they will be used along with the product name to create meta tags for search engine (I know meta keywords are not important, so is this what they mean?). Second, they will be used to assist people when searching your products. (Also internal, right?)." For all intents and purposes I think it is NOT super important but I wanted to make sure before I let them take a back burner. Thank you for your help in advance!

Ranking for more keywords - Noob question
Hi, I've noticed recently that our site is ranking for a fraction of the keywords that our competitors are ranking for. In terms of increasing the number of keyword rankings per page would it simply be a case of adding optimised copy to each page? Thanks, Dan

Google Keyword Tool
Hello, Is the Google Keyword Tool the only reliable source for stats on keyword search volume on Google? The tool returns "no data" results for keywords I would expect to have some, if not much, search volume. I would like to cross-check these results, if possible. Thanks!

Is it a good idea? Do oyu have any suggestions? Any expert out there give an insight? Thanks in advance. Francesca

Not Set Keywords
Hi, we have recently been working on our site's keywords and we have seen an increase in traffic. As I monitor my keywords, I see that the Not Set keyword has increased a great deal and now become my top keyword. I researched some but all I got is that users are bookmarking my page or using other avenues to reach my website. Can anyone give me a more concrete answer? Is this bad? Or is this a direct result of an increase in traffic. Any words of wisdom will be much appreciated, As you were...
