Inherited a site - no progress being made, no authority?
-
Hi all, would really appreciate some input on this one. I've been given the task of optimising a website which was built by another company. It's a Wordpress site using Jigoshop. It wasn't in the best of states, and I don't claim that it is now, though we've done quite a bit of work on it. However, after months of work on it, I feel it's not going anywhere. Naturally my customer wants to see results, and they're not getting much.
I've submitted the website to a couple of highly regarded directories, and I believe it's listed on some speciality directories (Asian clothing directories).
I've also started them on the task of blogging, and I'm trying to get them involved with guest blogging.
There's a DA of 1, OSE reports No Data Available for this URL. The Competitive Domain Analysis shows no links at all. I could understand if I started the campaign last week, but we got going in around January this year.
One thing that's crossed my mind is that it's quite a slow-loading website. It's with GoDaddy on some cheap hosting plan (not my doing!!). I understand loading times can affect results - could this be the case?
It's a bit disheartening really, because we've had really good success with a lot of local businesses' websites but with this one we just can't seem to get it anywhere!
If anyone could shine a bit of light I'd really appreciate it. The URL is bangle-box.co.uk.
Thanks in advance!

Use http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/
to find out if bangle-box.co.uk or www.bangle-box.co.uk is stronger then
Use a 301Redirect tool here
Redirect 301 to make the site to www. or no www. redirects use
http://www.htaccessredirect301.com/htaccess-redirect-www-to-non-www.html
http://www.htaccessredirect.com/index.html
http://www.htaccessredirect301.com/
http://www.htaccessredirect.net/

Thanks all for your responses, much appreciated. Really grateful for your very in depth response too, Thomas.
Thanks for confirming the loading and code issue. As I say, I didn't make this site. I've worked with WP for years but there's only so much I can do within the price I charge for SEO - I will of course make this recommendation as chargeable work.
I've noticed that some of the directory listings have added 'www.' in front of the link. The website is without www. So I guess that could be affecting this. I've submitted to at least three directories which have links to the site.
Thanks again.

There are no links to this site. I also had a quick look at ahrefs.com and there are zero links (also searched for with and without www). If you've only submitted to a few directories then it's possible they weren't approved.
I would also recommend moving hosts. Shared hosting is so cheap these days, If you look around you can find decent hosts who are much quicker than GoDaddy and are still very well priced (I don't use WordPress though so don't have any recommendations for you).

Unfortunately, your website is performing extremely poorly code wise and has a lot of Ajax, and that never helps the Google bot crawled the site. However, you need to have solid links from relevant websites to show up in OSE the fact that you're telling me you show up with a 1 and no links at all and that you have submitted this to Asian directories. Worries me one thing that you can do is look for a quality WordPress developer I can recommend one http://www.gregreindel.com/ (now on Flywheel) does excellent work here is an example of a site he just completed made in WordPress and hosted are managed WordPress platform called ZippyKid "Update ZippyKid is now Pressable this Is unfortunately much I will get use hi cannot recommend them because massive change after rebranding to "Pressable" to the uptime, Page speed & customer service"
http://garrisonbespoke.com/ (now on Flywheel)
You really need to start building links, videos and creating valuable content. Your Ajax code looks like you're trying to Geo-target the entire world and I don't know what he would do that?
http://bangle-box.co.uk/ the site is extremely slow I would recommend changing over to a framework something like Genesis 2.0 or woo themes
https://kinsta.com/ with with 14 Data Centers all over the world & top marks check them out
http://getflywheel.com/ is amazing company no longer brand-new however they are based on digital ocean a VPS cloud company that has data centers in the UK. Incredible speed uptime & service
http://wpengine.com/ they have data centers in London here's a recommendation as well and so you know WP engine operates as a UK company over there so you don't have to worry about any of the issues here in the United States
http://www.awesemthemes.com/managed-wordpress-hosting-uk
presslabs.com UK data centers and built-in CDN
http://pagely.co.uk/ they have caching and a data center in London
http://www.varihost.net/web-hosting/managed-wordpress-hosting/
http://www.zippykid.com/ They have a content delivery network built in and rack space infrastructure.
websynthesis.com only use with the CDN
Normally I would recommend you use web synthesis or a company like that however web synthesis does not encourage people to use a CDN however if you do use them I would use either edge cast, MaxCDN or CDN77 in the UK would be preferable
I would also look at possibly using these guys to do some work as far as getting the links and fixing your website.
https://www.tweaky.com/?invite=dbf3680225d960d5
the link above to tweaky is a great method to do small things however. You want a good deal on taking care of actually getting the whole thing Greg is a better bet. As far as search engine optimization companies I would look at
Internet marketing ninjas
SEER interactive
and
Portent
every one of them is excellent.
I hope this helps you. I would definitely get off of Go Daddy as soon as possible and get your code cleaned up quickly.
All the best,
Thomas

How many links have you built to this site? Can you confirm that the links are live? Are the pages were the link exist indexed?
If you've been building links to this domain since January, the DA surely should have gone up by now. The DA is only measured by links pointing to the site and page speed doesn't influence this at all.
Check your webmaster tools account and see if Google is reporting on any links pointing to the site. If not, i'd audit the links you've built. Perhaps you linked to the wrong domain or those pages simply haven't been indexed yet.

How do I find out which pages are being indexed on my site and which are not?
Hi, I doing my first technical audit on my site. I am learning how to do an audit as i go and am a lost. I know some page won't be indexed but how do I: 1. Check the site for all pages, both indexed and not indexed 2. Run a report to show indexed pages only (i am presuming i can do this via screaming Frog or webmaster tool) 3. I can do a comparison between the two list and work out which pages are not being indexed. I'll then need to figure out way. I'll cross this bridge once i get to it Thanks Ben

Comparing Domain Authority Scores
Since your scale (like PageRank) is a logarithmic scale, it makes it hard to judge the distance between 2 scores. Can you give me a rule of thumb. For PageRank, each jump is an exponential jump - so that a PR6 is perhaps 10 times stronger than a PR5. What is the log base that SEOMoz uses. Should I assume that a 60 is 10 times stronger than a 50? This is important when it comes to measuring progress because growth is going to get more difficult as you move up the scale and I need to communicate the distance between our current Authority score and our goal. Thank You!

SEOMoz crawler here hit's our site and gets a 403. I've looks in our blocked request logs and amazon is the only one in there. What is going on here?

Domain / Page Authority - logarithmic
SEOmoz says their Domain / Page Authority is logarithmic, meaning that lower rankings are easier to get, higher rankings harder to get. Makes sense. But does anyone know what logarithmic equation they use? I'm using the domain and page authority as one metric in amongst other metrics in my keyword analysis. I can't have some metrics linear, others exponential and the SEOmoz one logarithmic.

I made a mistake on my root domain, how can I change it.
I just signed up for SEOmoz and already goofed up on setting up my root domain, I left out www. part. I can't find a way to edit it. Can I change it, or do I need to start a new campaign and delete this one?

Has SEOMoz Domain Authority calc been updated recently
As ever, my apologies if this question's been asked before -- I searched for it, and didn't find it. But, our SEOMoz 'Domain Authority' has recently really jumped (from 67, where it was for many months, to 77). And, our number of Linking Root Domains increased as well, from 1,986 to 3,349) Of course, none of this has translated into Google goodness, but if any of it's true, maybe it WILL in the future? Any thoughts/ideas? Thanks, Dave (www.TeachStreet.com)
