Advise about Social Sharing between two loosely affiliated website - (retweets/fb cross sharing)
-
So basically, I have two websites. One being my Primary website and another which is very Niche/Seasonal. Now the Niche website received a penalty, and was later re-included however google traffic has been extremely limited since being reindexed. (bing never had a problem, still top ranked)
I don't directly link back and forth between the two websites because its not worth hurting my primary websites ranking. I'm sure google knows I own both anyway, as they are on the same webmaster tools but the Niche site was kicked for spammy link building & its been an endless process removing them all.
Anyway, with that being my concern. Would it be acceptable to cross share facebook posts, retweet and do things like that on occasion? My primary reason for asking is because the Niche website has a very large social following, so I would like to share post/tweets from my Primary site when its relevant and vice versa.
Appreciate any suggestions/comments. Thanks!

Cool, I sort of thought that would be the case. I was just concerned because I didnt have dedicated time to develop my niche site, so even thought its been online for 8 years... The penguin penalty was rather severe, and took a full year of cleaning just to be re included. Meaning I want no association between the two site.
That being said, I can't see how natural social sharing for a few weeks could be damaging to my primary website but I just wanted to check to see if anyone had experience with this specifically. By that I mean, how social metrics and sharing may impact a website...
I know anytime I get a re tweet or share from a large outlet, I see substantial traffic, and sometimes ranking increases... However have never seen, talked about or noticed the impact of a share from a website like my niche site. Which has a pristine service record, strong social following but yeah was kicked for a reason.
thx

definitely dont see anything wrong with cross social shares. Not something I would even worry about.

Looking for a way to crawl and test validity of affiliate links at scale. Ideas?
Hey all, I'm on the hunt for a service that will crawl our affiliate links and let us know when they return an error. I need to know that the last URL in the chain is returning a 200 over thousands of pages and links on a continual basis. The hitch is that most crawlers like Screaming Frog will return all of our links as working because it's only testing the first step, and this really requires a cloud solution anyway. Anyone happen to know of something? Edit for clarity's sake: I need something to check entire redirect chains in bulk that isn't a Wordpress plugin, isn't a website where you plug in a URL and it cuts you off after the first 100 results, and has the ability to crawl the site and provide reporting on a continual basis. How should I deal with the affiliate URLs we create through our affiliate program?
Our website offers an affiliate program and every affiliate gets a link http://www.ourwebsite.com/?affiliateID. Because we get many such links we use redirects to avoid duplicate content. Unfortunately we have 302 redirects set up and I want to make them 301. Many of our affiliates build backlinks using their http://www.ourwebsite.com/?affiliateID as the URL. If such links were redirected through a 301, would they pass any juice? Can our site get penalized by search engines for having backlinks to URLs that contain affiliate IDs, URLs that are 301 redirected to our homepage lets say?

Why Does This Website Rank?
Hi, I was looking over some mobile phone deals today and after search for Blackberry Torch Deals in Google UK I came across this site - http://www.phoneslimited.co.uk/Blackberry/9800+Torch.html When I hit the page I was amazed it was ranking #1 because it literally just lists affiliate link after affiliate link. The page has next to no unique content and keyword density is non existent. In fact, the whole on page seo is just whack. So why does it rank so well? The site seems to rank well for a variety of similar keywords? I think we could learn a lot breaking it down
