Vender Hijacked our 7 Pack Listing
-
A dentist I work with contracted with a company called Z O C D O C (ZD). ZD ' S goal is to deliver patients to the dentist. To my surprise, ZD created a domain name called s t o n e b r i d g e d e n t a l t e x a s.com that forwards to the doctors ZD doctor page.
(You can see the Google results listing by Google search: dentist mckinney tx or click this link http://imgur.com/liq05at)
Apparently, ZD calls this their "kick start" program so basically ZD is redirecting traffic from what should have been the dentists 7 Pack listing (which would have gone to the dentist website) to the ZD's doctor page.
So now, the dentists 7 pack listing domain is owned by ZD but ZD has this hooked up to the doctors office address.Issues swimming inside my head:
1. Is there anything that can be done here? I can't really ask them to take their site down since they own it.
2. Even if ZD takes this site down, there is no guarantee the dentists website will replace the one that's in the 7 pack currently
3. I am pretty sure that the dentist site won't appear in the 7 pack because that would mean there would be two listings with the same address right?
4. As a side-issue, looks like Google removed the links to the Google-Plus pages? Not it only shows reviews.Any words of wisdome here? It would be nice that if when somebody clicked on the link to Stonebridge Dental that it would go to the dentist website, not ZD.. like it should be

The Stonebridge Dental Plus Page that ZD created is here:
https://plus.google.com/104280204877579676759/about?gl=US&hl=en-US- Notice that it is not a verified listing
The Plus Page I claimed on behalf of the client which is verified is here (which I can log in to):
https://plus.google.com/b/115007218006913673410/115007218006913673410/aboutLooks like ZD purchased a domain which then forwards to the ZD doctor page and then created a new Google Plus profile with my clients address and phone.
I might have to ask them for their contract with ZD and see if there is something in there I'm missing.

I did an individual claim. I always claim everything in the clients name. Also, our Google+ listing is verified. (I had the postcard go to client and I entered the code)
I claimed in Places for Business dashboard.
Here is our real Google+ page:
https://plus.google.com/b/115007218006913673410/115007218006913673410/aboutThe client knew about the ZD "Jump Start" program but had no Idea what that meant technically.
stonebridgedentaltexas.com domain is owned by ZD

Hi Bob,
When you claimed the client's Google Places listing on their behalf, did you
- bulk claim or individual claim
- claim in the new Google+ dashboard or the Places for Business dashboard
?
-
Bob, what a strange situation. Are you SURE that your client hasn't given permission to ZocDoc to create this page on their behalf? If not, sure seems pretty sleazy on their part.
As far as a tactical fix, I'd recommend that your client (and their friends, and you, and your friends) click the Report a Problem link on the lower righthand side of this page:
https://plus.google.com/104280204877579676759/about
and let Google know that the URL for this listing should be stonebridgedental.com. With enough of those reports, Google should make the edit, although that may or may not solve the problem of having duplicate listings in this instance
-
Hi Bob,
I'll start with the easiest part of this first: question #4. Yes, Google is not typically showing Google+ links in the SERPs anymore. This applies to all businesses, not just your client's, so that is not something to worry about.
Now on to the harder part.
To make sure I have the details right, this is your client:
http://www.stonebridgedental.com/
This is the domain ZD buit with their own branding on it:
http://stonebridgedentaltexas.com/
If I've got this right, the big question here is how your client's +Local listing got associated with the new URL. Is the client in control of their +Local dashboard? Which URL is there in the dash? Did ZD create a new listing? Typically, when one uses the word 'hijacking', it means that a third party has taken control of the listing. Has ZD actually done this or does your client still control their own dashboard?
On the one hand, because of the strategy of ZD, your client has earned both an organic and local listings on page 1 of the SERPs (hard to accomplish). On the other hand, if the client has no control over what ZD is doing, this may be a problematic situation. What happens if the client cancels their account with ZD? Does the client own the domain? If no, could be problematic. Same with any reviews earned. It sounds to me as if maybe neither you nor the client understood what would be involved when you signed up for this. Is that correct?
If the client is still in control of their dashboard and needs to point the URL back to their own website, they may still be able to maintain their local listing, but could possibly lose that second organic listing. It might be helpful if you could provide further details on this. This is the first time I've heard of ZD, so I'm looking at the situation without having encountered it before. If you can explain more about the situation, I'll be happy to read.

Sudden drop in rankings over 7 days
Hello fellow SEOs, I am having a few issues with one of the sites I manage. The site in question has dropped for a number of terms in the last 7 days, including: logo design - dropped 2 places, now 19th logo design uk - dropped 2 places, now 8th logo designer - dropped 3 places, now 20th bespoke logo design - dropped 3 places, now 10th I'm worry that the site might drop for more terms if I just leave it alone. I haven't made any changes to the site but I have noticed that our number of inbound links has increased by 58% in the last 7 days. I have put the site through OSE and used the spam analysis tool. There's only one domain linking to my client that has an orange spam flag but this link isn't newly acquired. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Is site: a reliable method for getting full list of indexed pages?
The site:domain.com search seems to show less pages than it used to (Google and Bing). It doesn't relate to a specific site but all sites. For example, I will get "page 1 of about 3,000 results" but by the time I've paged through the results it will end and change to "page 24 of 201 results". In that example If I look in GSC it shows 1,932 indexed. Should I now accept the "pages" listed in site: is an unreliable metric?

Getting listed in DMOZ after a red mark against me?
Hi everyone, Before I start, I want to point out that I realise DMOZ is not everything. If I can't get a link, then I'll accept it, but I'd like to try damn hard to get a link in there if possible as I honestly believe we are a reputable company that deserves to be in there with other companies in our region. So, lets go back to the start: A few years ago, when I was young and foolish, I posted a request on rentacoder (now vworker) asking for someone to submit us to DMOZ for $xxx. If I remember correctly, we accepted someone for the job and they submitted our site. Since then, we've never been accepted. I tried submitting the site a couple of years ago and realised it still hadn't been submitted around a year ago. I thought this was a bit strange, so I did a bit of digging. I ended up talking to someone who was a DMOZ editor. They looked at my listing on DMOZ and basically said that I'd be rejected for 'bribing an editor' - something that I still maintain I didn't do. Never at any point have I said to someone that I would pay them to guarantee us a listing. At the time, I thought there was a 'certain way' to write a submission, but now that I've grown up a bit, I've realised it's fairly easy to get a listing if you write a well written description and are honest - I've done this for many clients sites which are now accepted. Unfortunately, this does mean that It looks like I won't be able to get our agency on DMOZ, but I just wanted to give one last push and see if anyone on SEOMoz knows of any one I could speak to in order to lift this ban? I realise now that it was probably a stupid thing to do, and in hindsight, I should have just waited like everyone else. I hold my hands up to that and I've worked over the last few years to grow our agency into something special for our clients. As I say, I realise dmoz isn't everything, but it is a directory that still holds value and I would like to be linked off there if possible. Any tips on how I may be able to beg for my ban to be lifted would be much appreciated. Kind regards, Lewis PS: I applied to become an editor at one point, this was when I realised something wasn't right - http://www.resource-zone.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=52658

Getting a complete list of all incoming links
I'm trying to clean up my spam incoming links and can't find where to download a complete list. Google Webmaster Tools has a button to download "Sample Links" or "Latest Links" but they don't show them all. Looking for wisdom from all the gurus out there. Thanks, Jean

Is it a bad that my site has the same title and description for directory listings?
I manually listed my site in a few hundred free directories, two paid directores (Joe ant $40, and dirmania $12), and 50 directories that require a reciprocal link ( I paid for a cheap service that gets around having to do the reciprocal). I made the big mistake of having the title and the description for these as the same or very close to the same...is this a huge problem? Should I have my site removed from the free directories or just let it go? I've since stopped focusing on all the directories, and considering saving up to get in Yahoo directory. Working now on getting legit and relevant links from .edu sites.

Does removing product listings help raise SERP's on other pages?
Does removing content ever make sense? We have out of stock products that are left on the site (in an out of stock section) specifically for SEO value, but I am not sure how to approach the problem from a bottom line conversion stand point. Do we leave out of stock products and hope that they turn into a conversion rate via cross selling, or do out of stock products lower the value of other pages by "stealing" link juice and pagerank from the rest of the site? (and effectively driving interest away) What is your perspective? Do you believe that any content that is related or semi-related to your main focus is beneficial, or does it only make sense to have strong content that has a higher rate of conversion and overall site engagement?
