Best Blog Post Length to get Links

Okay, kind of silly question but i am looking for some help interpreting an analysis done by John Doherty almost a year ago: http://moz.com/blog/what-kind-of-content-gets-links-in-2012
In the document he mentions the correlation that longer posts on average receive more links but the graphs were really hard to interpret (for me). Based on the data what is the correct size we should shoot for (most graphs were missing labels). Any one have any insight? Should i shoot for 300 words per post, higher, etc?

All the points made are great and I'd just add one more thing...look at the average length of the blog/website that the post is going on. Like EGOL said, on Moz, most posts are around 1000 words so that's what you should aim for but for another blog, they may want something longer or shorter. Match the content and length to the blog it is going on, that way you are adding value to the blog and not just blogging for links.

Tell them that their post should be one of the best on the web for the topic that they are writing about.

This is really really really short in my opinion. Most of the product descriptions on my ecommerce site are a lot longer than this. Blog posts and articles are usually way over 1000 words to be competitive with other content on same subject on the web. If you are not writing that type of content then in my opinion why are you writing?
Look at the Moz.com blog and you will see that what people are writing there is kickass stuff of way over 1000 words and usually lots of images.
Also don't let them get away with writing posts with no images. Tell them to take photos or hire someone to take them. A blog post without a photo is really boring.

I agree, of course the context and quality of the article is the most important but it is a question i get from EVERY client:
"How much content should i write then?"
Then i found this article and it seemed really helpful but i was having trouble interpreting what a good guideline should be.

Sorry for the cliche response, but I would worry more the quality content than the length of the content. Are your users going to feel fulfilled with less than 300 words? Maybe for some topics. I doubt there is a magic number to get links.
If you are churning out blog posts of an "optimal" length but they aren't engaging you probably will not see any benefit.
Long story short: Don't worry about the length. If you are writing just to write, you probably shouldn't expect much in return.

Do follow blog roll links
Hi I found out that someone is linking to my site from their blog roll (which is a related theme), which I am flattered. She is linking to lots of others including quality blogs. I ran a back link report and I'm on 250 of her pages with a dofollow link. The anchor text is not a "money" keyword. In fact it's got nothing to do with what I do! The domain is DA38. Now, here's the questions going through my mind! Do I ask her to make them no follow? Do I ask her to remove them? Do I ask her to brand them all instead of irrelevant anchor text? Do I just disavow them? They are like having sitewide links on a site Any thoughts? SMP

Getting site ready for outreach for guest posting
Hello, We've decided to focus on guest posting for my client's site. What do we need to do to my client's website to be ready for guest posting. I assume those providing guest posting opportunities will look at our site and evaluate how good it is and how good our writing is. Here's what we're doing, and I'm wondering what's important 1. We went from a junky design to a pretty good one. 2. The logo is still average - we're thinking of upgrading it 3. all of the buttons for the store are still bad looking - we're going to make them pretty 4. All the category text was keyword stuffed and not good, we're rewriting all category text which is a huge effort 5. There was 20 short OK articles. We're making 5 long good ones to take their places. What are they going to look at to make their decision?

Best Anchor Text Practices Post Penguin Panda
my question is what are the best practices Post Penguin and Panda for anchor texts? I have heard info about using brand names, and not having duplicate anchor texts. But i'm confused; if its best to have brand names then likely it will end up being duplicate. Also is having no anchor bad? I have also heard that it is best just to use the website URL. It would be great if someone could clear this up for me thanks.

Are the following considered bad links for Link Building.
I've been doing a lot of research lately on link building & I've read a lot about having a diverse amount of links. Social links, Blog links, comment links, footer links, No follow links, Directory links as well as links with Anchor text URL match, brand match, partial brand match, non-descriptive, and with keywords. But there is a lot of talk of removing those links that look like a site that's built just for link building purposes.... but Directories are basically built for link building are they not? I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if they feel links from the following directories would be bad links. What are the pros and cons of having comments posted on your blog?
I get a lot of spammy comment comments to my blog which I trash, but I'm also particular about the comments I allow. How do the search engines regard these comments, should I allow more to be posted as it looks like I'm getting more traffic.And by posting these comments, who benefits from the backlinks?

What are some good easy links to get for new sites?
We are in the process of launching a couple of new sites and while we know it will be a long process to get them to rank, achieving some long-tail keywords would be beneficial. What sites would you recommend for getting some easy links to start with that can help the indexation and ranking process along in the preliminary stages? Or another way to put the question - when you launch a new site, what steps do you go through?

Guest Blogging - Build a relationship with a few blogs and post only there or post a few on as many good blogs as possible?
I'm curious which strategy is better in the short term and in the long-term? Part of my link building strategy involves contacting bloggers and posting some guest blogs on their sites. Now there are advantages with posting on a few blogs and creating a link between you and the blog readers and the blog owner. It also saves time trying to contact blog owners etc. However would my time be better spent contacting hundreds of blogs and seeing where I can guest blog and then post on as many as possible; in order to have a diverse number of links going back to my website? What do you think is the best option and why?
