How to approach link building/content in my weight loss coaching niche in a large scale way
-
Hello,
I run a weight loss coaching business, bobweikel.com
that is in it's early stages. I'm still working on making it graphically appealing
I want to increase my number of national clients - it's coaching done over the phone or skype.
I'm needing help analyzing my niche, specifically
keywords, article content topics, link building tactics.
I want to put a lot of time into it. Eventually I want to scale it up and hire other weight loss coaches and even SEO help.
How do I get this dream going through gaining national clients online? There's not much traffic locally.
I'm enough of an authority that, with enough time, I can create kickass content on the topics of weight loss and also the topic of NLP (NLP is the type of coaching I do, but it's little known)
I'd like to add 5 best-of-the-web articles and a blog.
Looking for advice. Would like to dream big.
Tools I normally use (though I'm open to anything): OSE, Link Prospector, Excel Pivot Tables, Buzzstream, iPhone 5S video camera with tripod, youtube video embed, keyword discovery

I completely agree with Remus' suggestion about changing the focus of your site and making it personal about you. From an inbound marketing perspective, I would work hard at making a site that is visually appealing and engenders trust from the visitors. While keywords are important, get away from simply listing them on a page. There are so many people interested in getting help with weight loss, that I would think that you could start engaging on social channels. The key will be to stand out - like Remus said. Look for forums or Facebook groups dedicated to weight loss, but be patient, don't go in an start posting links to your site. Be helpful. Answer questions. The kinds of questions people ask in those settings are a great source of potential keywords to build website content and blog posts around.

Hi Bob,
Great job you're doing! I'm certain you will be able to help a lot of people.
I have some suggestions that could help you bring it to the next level. They are more like core/concept ideas:
- Focus more on you - at a personal level
Right now the website looks more like a business - Bob provides... Bob has hundreds of hours... has helped so many thousands of people... Bob has dedicated ... I would make it more personal. I would focus to grab the user's attention with:
I belive in... this is why I do it... and try to gather an audience around me who believes the same.
There's nothing wrong with the current approach. But I think it will be very hard to get a snowballing effect and grow it to the next level. I know that you already mention beliefs there - which is good - but it's done more like the "corporate way". After a quick look over the website there's nothing actually sticking into my mind. There's a bit about NPL, weightloss, and an actual example. I know you have a lot of experience, you just have to rethink how to present it - and make it stick.
If you want to dream big - I think that this 3 books will help you a lot - Made to Stick: Why Some Ideas Survive and Others Die - by Chip Heath, Dan Heath, Start With Why by Simon Sinek and Linchpin by Seth Godin.
- Use the story
Great stories succeed because they are able to capture the imagination of large or important audiences (I will let you guess who said this - not my quote). With so much experience you must have a lot of stories. Start using them, they will help you a lot!

What is the relationship between inbound links and linking domains?
In doing competitor research, there's a specific competitor that has fewer linking domains, but dramatically more inbound links. How do these two relate to each other? I do have a higher domain authority and more internal followed links with them having more internal nofollow and external (both follow and nofollow) links. I'm trying to understand how they can have 3.7k linking domains and 4.8 million inbound links while I have 4.1k linking domains and only 601k inbound links. What really defines an inbound link and what's there relationship between inbound links and linking domains?

I need to estimate the traffic patterns for the last year at a minimum...preferably 2 or 3 years for this deep link: http://www.amazon.com/Boating-Water-Sports-Outdoors/b/ref=sa_menu_btwt?ie=UTF8&node=3421331 I have ran a url comparison in open site explorer against amazon.com but want to put some traffic estimates around this. Is there a tool in moz to do this?

What's the best SEO way to benefit from your competitor's shutting down?
Hi ! Our main competitor is shutting down (website will be offline) at the end of the month and we are negotiating with them to buy their domain name: the idea would be to take advantage of their good rankings in the SERPs to redirect traffic to our pages (we're planning to crawl their site or get their sitemap and redirect th category / product pages to ours). The question is: for how long this strategy will be useful: days / weeks / months? (= for how long their pages will continue to appear in the SERPs from the day we enable the 301 redirections to our site?) Thanks in advance for your help! And if you have better suggestions, we're up to hear them of course.. 😉 Cheers

Small Link nalysis project - anyone
Hi, Not sure if someone can help me out. OSE only show the best mozrank data but i might have some links under that benchmark. Therefore anybody with a Majestic account that can filter new links from April 2012 to date. Payment not a problem. WMTools isnt showing data that i expected, so maybe its not there. Need a secondary opinion of the data from another source. Ive contacted some SEOmoz Recommended Companies...no response. Clearly have better things to do maybe.

Okay, we are looking for online tools to check our backlinks, and anchor links top domains, etc. OSE is not working for us, because looks like , it gets updated in some months. We are looking for something, which can drag the statistics in fw hours and show up. Let me know.

Are My Links Valuable?
I have been link building for a couple months now. I am having a hard time trying to figure out which sites are even worthy of getting links from. Obviously, those that are clearly link farming, or have lots of ads throughout their site are not valuable. I use OSE, but don't know what is a good P.A or D.A. and what it means when one is much higher than the other (and if that is a bad thing). I also use compete.com to give me a general idea of the unique visitors going into a site. Any tools I can use to help evaluate the strength of specific incoming links/ specific websites? Any ideas or thoughts would be helpful. Thanks So Much, Melissa
