Google Analytics and Webmaster Tools Setup for Agencies
-
Hi,
As agencies, what are people finding to be the best practices for allowing multiple members of the agency's team to access client WMT and GA data?
-
Have a generic "analytics@myagency.com" account that's used for the shares, that anyone in the agency can use as needed (limited, of course, not admin).
-
Have the individual person at the company use their company email for the share for each particular client? employee@agency.com. Yet what happens when we need someone else to check the GA or WMT data?
Any advice is much appreciated.
Thank you! -

"Client's sometimes do more harm than good if they think they know what they are doing"
Ain't that the truth!
-
I guess we do own since we set it up and maintain control if the client leaves. The any employee working on the account will access WMT, analytics or any other account we create the client through this gmail account.
I feel if it is something the client sets up for us they can randomly change the pw or manage to mess something up with them having open access. Client's sometimes do more harm than good if they think they know what they are doing.
-
But do YOU own the titancorp@gmail.com email? Or does the client?
And how do your employees access the GA and WMT data from the client? Via this account, or do you now share the "titancorp@gmail.com" data with an "anayltics@laketahoeseo.com" account so that your employees can use the data?
I already have my clients create their own "client@gmail.com" account for this purpose -with the understanding that there will be lots of hands in this cookie jar (so don't use it for personal stuff -- only Google-related items).
-
I do titancorp@gmail.com and house all my items under that account then link the other accounts to that. Great thing about this is when / if the client leaves I just hand over the account to them.
-
To clarify ---
So if the client is "Titan Corp." you'd make a titancorp@laketahoseo.com and then use that? Do you do that in your google apps account?
Or titancorp-bigstorm@gmail.com?
The problem I currently have is that the email that I have some clients linked to is: myagency@gmail.com. I like it becauseI have analytics all under one hood, as well as the GWT data. But now that I want to share that access with someone, I don't want them to have access to the entire "myagency@gmail.com" account because there is AdWords, YT, etc. data attached to that.
Or if I did keep the myagency@gmail.com as I believe Drew is suggesting, what do I do about an audit trail? (Of course, if you don't trust the employee why are you giving them access? -- But I like the "trust but verify" philosophy")
Thanks to you both for the clarifications!

We typically create a master email account (usually in gmail), which is really helpful for things like Google Webmaster Tools and Google Analytics, but it's also helpful to use that to link up to Adwords when necessary. Individual employee email accounts are good too, but it's also good to have that backup. We will also use the master email when it comes to doing some basic link building such as grabbing a few high-end directories that tend to over-promote. Ideally though, anyone who needs access should be given so via their own email account so they can be held accountable. More than this it saves time when accessing accounts.
It should also be known that Google Analytics has a limit of 25 on the number of accounts one email can create.
-
We create a master account email for that client and then share out to other from there.
Feel that works best so everyone has their own login and no one can blame anyone for changing a password or hijacking an account.

Would updating Meta Titles affect Google analytics tracking?
Hi All, I need a little bit of help. We need to optimize our blog's articles Meta titles for SEO which all exceed 100 characters. I was told that if we change the titles, google analytics would split the tracking pages and count the data as 2 pages (old title and new title). Has any of you have this experience before and if so, is there a way to avoid google analytics counting this as two pages? Thanks in advance! Google Webmasters DNS error
Hi, In my webmaster tools I have a yellow triangle stating that there is a DNS error that is preventing Google crawling my sites. The site is indexed and I have checked fetch as Google and that seems ok but the triangle is still there every time I check it. The whois sites all have the correct information and point to Hostgator who I am using. I have contacted them and they said everything seems ok. Should I just carry on as normal with my link building as the site is indexed or investigate even further? Cheers, Stuart

Can you link several sites together in Google Webmaster Tools?
I have a client saying that there is a way to link 3 separate websites (A website for each department of a company) in Google Webmaster tools to tell Google it's basically one site but really its 3. Or to tell Google it's the same company and all the sites are one. I have never heard of this & I don't see the point in making 3 separate small sites & "linking" them as one in Webmaster tools. Is there in fact a way? Am I out to lunch on what they might be referring to? I am recommending they create one larger authority site with a page on each department & earn links for each department page & provide informative unique content for each page. Thoughts? Thanks for the help!

Google Analytics data - Canonical problems?
Hi everyone, We're trying to determine why Google Analytics is showing multiple versions of the same page as having "landing page traffic". For instance, these 2 pages are both shown as landing pages in GA: www.oursite.com/product_page
Reporting & Analytics | | darkgreenguy
www.oursite.com/product_page/ This occurs many times in Google analytics. Also, there are instances such as these: www.oursite.com/index.php/custom_product_url www.oursite.com/custom_product_url I can't find anything in Google Webmaster tools that would indicate a problem. However, this GA data is making me think there are duplicate content issues on the site... Thanks in advance for any help...0 -
Transfer Google Analytics data from one user to another?
Long story short, two weeks of analytics data are stored on a different profile from the rest of the year's data. Is there a way to export all data from a date range, and then import it to another account? Thanks for your help.

Regular Expressions in Google Analytics
I want to use the Google Analytics landing page reports to look at the bounce rate of top level pages excluding the homepage. So pages with urls: www.example.com/example Does anyone know a regular expression that will allow me to do this? Just to clarify I do not want to look at the bounce rate of the homepage or any pages deeper than www.example.com/example e.g: www.example.com/example/example www.example.com/example/example/example etc Thanks in advance
