Domain Moztrust
-
While looking over my historical rankings for MozTrust I noticed a very large drop in my rankings (5 to 4) on July 2013 that never picked up again.
What would cause this?
-
Hi Rachel,
Could mean one of several things:
- You lost high-trust links (or the sites linking to you lost trust)
- You gained low-trust links
- The algorithm is a comparative metric (based against all the other sites on the web) so it's possible you simply experienced a readjustment of a relative measurement, and nothing really happened with your links
It's probably not much to worry about, unless you notice a drop in rankings, been hit by a penalty, or suspect a rash of negative links. In these cases further investigation may be warranted, but otherwise you'll probably be okay as long as you notice your traffic remaining steady.
Cheers.

The links may be difficult to find with just a cursory look. We use a service called LinkDetox. It is a charge for service but you would be surprised at who links to you! There are lots of these types of services so LinkDetox may not be your first choice. But they will provide a report of the good links along with the cautionary links, as well the bad links. I just bet you will find bad links that you are not seeing by using GWMT or a MOZ links report.
-
It is possible that the links were created a while back and just recently discovered by Google.

Thanks for giving me a clear answer.
There hasn't been any spammy links added to our backlink profile recently, does that mean that these bad links could be a few years old?
-
Rachel,
Ready for some bad news? It means that the spiders crawling your site have found links to your site that are from low quality (trust) sites. Hence if you have low quality sites providing links to your site it could bring down your trust.
We both hope that these are not your doing. What that means is that just going out and soliciting links to your site, without first checking out the domain trust, content, and page rank of the site you are trying to receive a link from, you may just be asking for trouble by accepting just any old link.
So if that inset bad enough here is even worse news! Rouge websites could possibly provide a link to your site just to do evil deeds to your site. Its worth checking into where the links to your site come from. Here is where the link disavow comes into play.
I am not saying that is what happen in your case, so please check it out instead of ignoring it, and hoping things will improve in the future.
Wish I had better news for you,

Suggestion: Moz Domain Authority should take disavow into account
Since Moz is trying to predict how Google ranks your site, and Google claims to take the disavow file into account, I'd like to suggest that Moz allow webmasters to upload their disavow file. I imagine this data would be useful to Moz in determining Domain Authority (they may even think of other ways to use it and might even help come to a conclusion on the great debate) and it gives a chance for sites to improve their Moz DA when they are bombarded by spammy links. I'd love to hear the community's thoughts on this idea, as well as the what Wizards of Moz have to say.

Domain.com isn't recognized by on-page-grader, but domain.com/index.php is
I am running a website through On-page-grader, as www.domain.com and scores an "F" for a specific keyword. When it's ran as www.domain.com/index.php, it scores an "A" for that same keyword and has everything checked other than "keyword in the domain name". There are no other files such as index.htm, or index.html that would interfere and can't figure out why this page is not being recognized. I checked, the robots and .htaccess file, but do not see anything that would hinder. Could this be a server issue?

Is it normal for my homepage's page authority to be higher than my domain authority?
Hi everyone, I've just been checking my MOZ authority scores, and the page authority of my home page, www.concerthotels.com is 53 (mozRank of 6.16) which seems pretty good to me. However, the domain authority is only showing as 45. Is this typical? There is such a big difference between these two scores - what does that suggest? Is there anything obvious that I can do to bring the domain authority up to the level of authority that the homepage commands? Similarly, the UK version of my site has a homepage authority of 41, but the domain authority is only 30. Looking at numerous other websites, quite often the homepage and domain authority scores are very similar, or the domain authority is slightly higher, so it does look as if this is unusual. Any comments would be greatly appreciated, Many thanks Mike

My product pages have no weight / links from root domains with the Moz tool bar
Hi, When I view my home page (http://www.arkwildlife.co.uk) with the Moz toolbar, I see a good PA and a good amount of links from root domains. As I go down the site, it seems to get worse. The category pages (http://www.arkwildlife.co.uk/Category/0/Straight_Foods.html) have a little but not much and then from this point onwards, it's nothing. The product page (http://www.arkwildlife.co.uk/Item/Straight_Foods~Sunflower_Seeds/SUNH/Premium_Sunflower_Hearts.html) is reporting to have no root domain links but I am not sure why. Interestingly, when I click through to a review page (http://www.arkwildlife.co.uk/StockReview/0/SUNH/0/Premium_Sunflower_Hearts.html) it does have some juice. Would anyone be able help on why this is happening and what I need to be looking at in order to resolve it please? EDIT: I've been looking at the hyperlinks and notice something odd. If I review the score with the first link below, it gives a score of 1, but the second gives a PA of 13 with one root domain linked. 1:http://www.arkwildlife.co.uk/Item/Straight_Foods~Sunflower_Seeds/SUNH/Premium_Sunflower_Hearts.html 2:http://www.arkwildlife.co.uk/Item/Straight_Foods%7ESunflower_Seeds/SUNH/Premium_Sunflower_Hearts.html Please note the "%7E" instead of the "~" in the URL. The browser appears to show the ~ character no matter what but the rank of the page changes. I don't understand what the Moz toolbar is doing with this. Note: This behaviour only happens in Mozilla Firefox, in chrome both the rankings are zero for each URL. Many Thanks.

Link Metrics API: sort by domain authority not working?
I’m trying to make calls to the Link Metrics API (via the Linkscape gem); queries that set sorting to :page_authority work, but queries that set it to :domain_authority return Unrecognized API method: 'links/page_to_domain.domain_authority' Unrecognized API method: 'links/page_to_page.domain_authority' Meanwhile, Open Site Explorer happily sorts by domain authority. How should I query the Link Metrics API to get results sorted by domain authority?
