What is the value in doing/knowing rank checks?
-
I agree, rank checking is only one metric you need to follow in order to know if your on track in reaching your goals. You should also track the website goals and business goals you achieve with your organic search results. Your goal should never be first rank but optimized ROI from organic search.
So rank checking is only the first layer you need to keep track off.

Hi, doing rank checks helps you to check the progress of your SEO efforts and also those of your main competitors. The Moz rank tracker doesn't just show you this week's rank but over time it records the changes in the ranking of your pages. There's more info on Moz's tool here: http://moz.com/help/pro/rank-tracker
The majority of people searching will not search past the first page of search results, so if you can get page 1 listings for the keywords you are optimising your pages for then ultimately you will get more clicks through to your site.
Having said that, what appears in the search results is changing a lot and Google's latest Hummingbird update will affect that more. So, rank checking is not the only thing you should focus upon. There are lots of things you need to check and give attention to. Rank checking is just one metric in the toolbox.
I hope that helps,
Peter

Create a report with keyword, label, difficulty, global search volume, and ranking?
Is it possible to create a report with containing keyword, label, difficulty, global search volume, and ranking? Currently in order to get the data, it seems like I need to manage two lists, the keyword list we are tracking and the keyword list in the Difficulty tool then somehow manually combine the data. Is there an easier way?

How Does the On-Page Grader Know about my Target Keyword? Or how can I tell it?
So we've optimized a home page for a particular keyword, "blue widgets tx". But the on-page grader is giving information about "tx blue widgets", "blue widgets in texas", etc. and telling us we are an "F" for these keywords. Is it possible to tell the on-page grader, "Hey, just worry about 'blue widgets tx', and forget about those other ones"? I know I can do it by hand, but it will take forever.

I'm checking keyword difficulty for two different sites. Would love to view the results by site instead of just one large list. Is that possible? Or would it just be easier to keep the lists separate in Excel and just import when I want an updated report?
I have keyword lists for two sites. Is there a way to label them in the keyword difficulty tool (List A, List B) so I can just view results for a particular site? Or do I need to run the report with List A, export results, delete those keywords, then run the report for List B?

Rank tracker csv export different data
Is it on purpose that you export data to the csv export that is different from what is displayed? This is the case when using 'entire subdomain in the request'. After grading the page, it displays the 'ranking url', but when I csv export it, I get the url for this entry that I entered in the URL field.

Moz / more changes on the way?
I love Moz and the community and all the tools here. I admit I haven't rolled around in all the new things rolled out a few months ago. I thought there were more changes on the way but I wasn't sure if those already happened and I missed them or if I need to be patient? Affiliate program, client reporting? Thanks for any response. Have a great weekend! Matthew

SEOMOZ On page ranking reports update
I've recently made a load of changes to improve the on page ranking report grades for my site. I was givena C grade for this page: http://www.katalysticevents.com/luxury-wedding-teepee-hire-about/ based on two key phrases Wedding Tipi and Wedding Teepeee. I've made all the changes as advised (excluding H1 tag) by the report but when I rereun the report it's picking up old page data and showing the same problems. Is there some kind of cache thing I'm missing here? The confusing thing is I made the same series of changes for this page: www.katalysticevents.com/luxury-marquee-hire-services/ for Luxury marquee and luxury marquee hire and the results are fine...I've got an A grade. Examples are things like ALT image attirbutes which don't seem to show up on the first page but are fine on the second page.
