Product Descriptions for a product with many designs

I'm a newbie with SEO and I have a question regarding product descriptions.
Let's say I am selling 100 dog id tags. The tags are all made of same materials, same size, just different designs. Now for the product description, do I need to write a different set of description for all 100 tags?
This is an example of a short product description(there's more) for all the pet tags:

Personalized with 4 lines of information and 20 characters in each line.

Lifetime guarantee - If your pet ID tag ever becomes illegible, we will replace it free of charge.

Solid one-piece construction - No glued or ""sandwiched"" materials to wear out or fall apart.

All of the above information pertains to all the pet tags. Can all my product descriptions contain that information, or will I need to modify this 100 times for each individual pet tag? I read up a lot on duplicate content so I am slightly confused. Will this hurt my SEO?

I would not make these two pages have the same rel canonical tag, as they are not the same page, nor the same product:

http://wagavenue.com/very-important-pooch-custom-pet-id-tag-for-dogs
Yes, they are the same "shape" and made out of the same material, but that would be like an eCommerce site for clothes that was being told they should add a rel canonical tag for all of their cotton T-shirts to combine them on one product page for "cotton T-shirts". That's not a product page. That's a category page.
You can have some shared content on product pages about shipping, returns, etc... but if I were you I would invest in as much unique content as you can on each page. Talk about the sayings. The colors. The material. There are a million ways to say the same thing if you're creative. Failing that, you can put the shipping and returns information, and similar templated info, in an iframe or a javascript pop-up window, or some other way of keeping from being duplicate content on every page.
Long story short, if you want to rank for 100 different sayings (e.g. "what happens in the dog park dog tag", "very important pooch dog tag") you need to write unique descriptions for each of those. There is no way around it without risking your traffic from Google.

It depends on the keywords you're trying to rank for, if for example your trying to rank for a specific key word in the dog tag (e.g tuxedo dog tag) I recommend going down the unique content route (bit more work unfortunately) If you just want to rank up for some basic terms like dog tag (e.g the catogorry) then I would suggest the rel=canonical.

Hmm, do you mean to have a drop down option for all the designs? The only problem is that there are many different designs. It's not just a color variation.

Will I need to focus on a different keyword for each dog id tag? Or should I write all the unique and quality content on the link above and use Rel=canonical on all the products and point it to that link?

Pretty much sums up what I was thinking, especially if the dog tags are different colors etc. easy to change on checkout.

The best way to approach this in my experience is to have 1 product page with the ability to select the dog tag required. Write quality content focusing on your main keyword which I assume will be "dog id tags" and also add content to target your secondary keyword targets.
Doing this reduces the time needed to write 100 unique product descriptions.

Yes, but with that you risk not having all the products indexed. Not good if you want to rank for something long tail like '[insert design here] dog id tag'.

Meta-description issue in SERPs for different countries
I'm working with a US client on the SEO for their large ecommerce website, I'm working on it from the UK. We've now optimised several of the pages including updating the meta-descriptions etc. The problem is when I search on the keyword iin the UK I see the new updated version of the meta-description in SERPs results. BUT when my client searches on the same keyword in the US they're see the old version of the meta-description. Does any one have any idea why this is happening and how we can resolve it? Thanks Tanya

Crawling/indexing of near duplicate product pages
Hi, Hope someone can help me out here. This is the current situation: We sell stones/gravel/sand/pebbles etc. for gardens. I will take a type of pebbles and the corresponding pages/URL's to illustrate my question --> black beach pebbles. We have a 'top' product page for black beach pebbles on which you can find different types of quantities (differing from 20kg untill 1600 kg). There is not any search volume related to the different quantities The 'top' page does not link to the pages for the different quantities The content on the pages for the different quantities is not exactly the same (different price + slightly different content). But a lot of the content is the same. Current situation:

- Most pages for the different quantities do not have internal links (about 95%) But the sitemap does contain all of these pages. Because the sitemap contains all these URL's, google frequently crawls them (I checked the logfiles) and has indexed them. Problems: Google spends its time crawling irrelevant pages --> our entire website is not that big, so these quantity URL's kind of double the total number of URL's. Having url's in the sitemap that do not have an internal link is a problem on its own All these pages are indexed so all sorts of gravel/pebbles have near duplicates. My solution: remove these URL's from the sitemap --> that will probably stop Google from regularly crawling these pages Putting a canonical on the quantity pages pointing to the top-product page. --> that will hopefully remove the irrelevant (no search volume) near duplicates from the index My questions: To be able to see the canonical, google will need to crawl these pages. Will google still do that after removing them from the sitemap? Do you agree that these pages are near duplicates and that it is best to remove them from the index? A few of these quantity pages do have intenral links (a few procent of them) because of a sale campaign. So there will be some (not much) internal links pointing to non-canonical pages. Are ALL CAPS construed as spamming if they are used in a meta description tag call to action?
I know this seems like an old school question. As a long time SEO I would never use ALL CAPS in a title tag (unless a brand name is capitalized). However I recently came across a Moz video about creating better calls to action in the meta description tags. Some of the examples had CTAs that were using all caps (i.e. CALL NOW! or LOWEST QUOTES!) I realize there is a debate about the user experience implications. However I'm more concerned about search engines penalizing websites that are using ALL CAPS CTAs in their meta description tags. Any feedback/advice would be appreciated. Thanks

How many keywords should each of my pages realistically be targeting?
Hi All, I run a small bank's website and we're currently in the process of organising a site rebuild. Whilst this will be extensive and have many SEO factors to tick off, my concern now is to get a "realistic" number of keywords each of my pages should be targeting. For instance for my car loan page i've done a review on moz's keyword tool and have picked 3 or 4 good keywords - but the problem is there are realistically 7-8 that would suit. Also this is based on Bing's info only. Can anybody point me in the right direction (or have some google confirmed resource they can quote me) Cheers as always 🙂 Dave

Is it a problem if a URL has too many backslashes in its address?
The ecommerce platform of the site that I am working on generates URLs that contain ID Codes for each different product category, color variations, styles, etc. An example of a URL for a specific product includes: www.example.com/women/denim-jeans/py/c/109/np/108/p/3834.html Is it a problem for search engine crawlers if the URL address has so many backslashes in its address? Appreciate your feedback.

Improve change my Meta Description shows in SERP
I feel my meta descriptions are descriptive and fairly represent the info on each page of my site. However, Google frequently includes this "20+ items" in front of the snippet. I run a job site and each page list 20 jobs. What if I include a bit of coding in the Meta Description to include "Latest Jobs Posted TODAY's DATE" - since the jobs listed on the page will include a date. On each page there is also option to "Create Email Alert" and "save Jobs" maybe I should include writing about that as well? I have read all Google's documents on the importance of making Meta Des relevant for the page etc, so any good insight how increase my chances of getting the meta des displayed in the SERP would be appreciated. thank you, Kristian

Can Bundling Products Help eCommerce SEO?
We currently have over 13,000 products on our site. SeoMoz reports many duplicate pages, which are items that are very similar (different size, application, sku, etc.). Would it be prudent to create a bundled product that has one page, one description, a set of images and a table with add to cart buttons for all of the different products on that page? (called a bundled product in Magento). Then create 301 redirects from all of the individual pages and categories to the relevant new bundled product.
