Searching for keywords

Is there a reliable tool which would give me estimate on how many people are searching for some keyword?

There are a number of keyword research tools around and some will give you estimates on search volumes. However, those volumes cannot be reliably returned for Google searches any more since they blocked keyword search data and just returned "(not provided)" in their referrals.

You are therefore dependent on these tools returning Bing or Yahoo data which won't give you an accurate indication of the numbers searching in Google. With Google dominating 80-90% of Internet searches (depending on where those searches are being entered) that data may not help you very much. It can give you an idea of which keyword searches may be more popular than others (i.e. one search volume being in proportion to another), but they won't give you accurate numbers.

It's difficult to recommend anything on that basis. I would be interested to hear of anything that can be recommended in this respect. If you want to try something out then maybe have a look at the free option of http://www.keywordeye.com which will give you a feel for how these tools work.
