New indepth page for content marketing - feedback?
-
I finally figured out that to EARN quality links I need some great content that I can share. Content that is valuable to people.
So I created a (indepth?) article with some pretty sweet infographics. This is NEW to me. So I was hoping I could get some feedback on this before I attempt to promote it to media and industry publishers.
Here is the link: http://www.titanium-jewelry.com/jewelry-insurance-info.html
Would love your feedback and suggestions!
Thanks

Had to come and give a thumbs up to this question and to all of the responses. Thank you for all of the suggestions and improvements regarding this question. Coming in to Q&A and seeing responses like this is one of the reasons why I love working at Moz. Thank you to all of the community members who give so freely of your time and expertise in Q&A!

Yes, that's much better. It's a lot more engaging I think.
Just a small technical issue with how the page displays in Chrome (and I would think Safari too). On all of the sets of bullet points, the first bullet point (but not the text of it) is aligned right. This is being caused by there being floats on each block of text (e.g. div, p etc) in your HTML being applied from your CSS.
Rather than going through and changing your CSS for each of the blocks, if you add just a clear:both to the ul in your CSS, that should fix it. So as follows:
ul {
clear: both;
}Otherwise, it's all OK. Good luck to you with this.

Nice work! I think that will have a much better chance of pulling traffic from search.
I think that there is still some potential here for more articles in this theme - which will strengthen this article in search.
How about a technical article about rings going down drains... .
<title>OMG! My Ring Went Down the Drain! How to Retrieve It.</title>
Don't panic! Don't run more water. If this was in a kitchen or bathroom sink your chances of getting it back are close to 100%. Here's what to do... we have photos to help you get it back step-by-step. Maybe a video.
<title>How to inventory and document your jewelry collection</title> How to use this for insurance claims, informing pawn shops and helping law enforcement after a theft. All the info you need and how to organize it. (also a great way to help your family know the value of your items after you are gone)
Lost your ring at the beach, in the lawn, etc? How to find it...
Lost your ring in the car? Where they usually hide....
There are a ton of articles in this vein. If you have all of them your site will start to get traction...

I made changes to the page based on what was recommended and I like it much better now.
Thanks guys! I'm so glad I'm part of moz.com with such great resources.

Some great pointers Egol. "OMG! My ring fell down the drain."... brilliant. As you say, taking an angle like that is going to make a sleepy subject much more sharable.

Thank you Egol!
Never thought this angle. My initial idea was to create something valuable that some jewelry industry blogs and news media blogs would mention and link to. So I thought after the page was perfected I would reach out to these people and mention that their readers might find this beneficial.
Now you have my brain swimming!

Hi Peter,
Thanks so much for the feedback. Yes sir, I do appreciate it!
Good call on the tips. I'm going back in there and editing right now.
I really appreciate it!

Nice work.
I think that this is the start of a great article. Agree with Peter that it could use a little editing.
But great start and great images.
This type of article is too valuable to give away. If I wrote it it would go on my site only and I would promote it by linking to it from my homepage, featuring it on my blog and mentioning it on relevant parts of my siite. I have a lot of traffic so it would probably be shared by my visitors. If I didn't have traffic like that they I might look to a couple blogs to see if they might mention it.
This article is targeting really difficult keywords. "Jewelry insurance".
I might change that if my site was not powerful enough to launch it to visiblity in the SERPs.
"Jewelry Insurance" is a sleepy subject.
If you change the focus to.... "OMG! My jewelry was stolen".... "OMG! My ring fell down the drain." Then you have an article that personizes the subject and makes it much more sharable. IF someone posts on the web that they had this type of loss, then helpful people might link to your article as a source of guidance.
"What to do when your jewelry is stolen"... is URGENT, thus highly sharable...... while "jewelry insurance" is SLEEPY.
So, I would refocus.
Good luck.

Hi Ron
I like the page a lot and the graphics look really good. There's a good amount of content which is good for indexing of course.
From a readability point of view, I think it needs some work though. You make a good point at the start that people are not that motivated to read about insurance and you are absolutely correct. But I don't think you need to say that - especially in the opening sentence. For me it's a negative start. I would lose that first sentence completely.
To make the page more readable I think you need to break it up a bit. You have done that well with the sub-headings, but I think you need to condense the paragraphs or split them to make them more bite size. Consider using bullet points in places to cover the points you want to make in some paragraphs - and use bolded text where you want to emphasise something - it will give the page a bit of a lift visually.
Having said there is a good amount of content which is great for indexing, it may be worth reading through and seeing if there is anything you can cut out. I know that sounds counter-intuitive from an SEO indexing point of view, but sometimes less is more even for search engines. More text, doesn't mean more relevance for Google, but clearer more understandable sentences would do.
All in though, good job. I hope my comments are helpful.
All the best to you with this,
Peter

Possible duplicate content issues on same page with urls to multiple tabs?
Hello everyone! I'm first time here, and glad to be part of Moz community! Jumping right into the question I have. For a type of pages we have on our website, there are multiple tabs on each page. To give an example, let's say a page is for the information about a place called "Ladakh". Now the various urls that the page is accessible from, can take the form of: mywanderlust.in/place/ladakh/ mywanderlust.in/place/ladakh/photos/ mywanderlust.in/place/ladakh/places-to-visit/ and so on. To keep the UX smooth when the user switches from one tab to another, we load everything in advance with AJAX but it remains hidden till the user switches to the required tab. Now since the content is actually there in the html, does Google count it as duplicate content? I'm afraid this might be the case as when I Google for a text that's visible only on one of the tabs, I still see all tabs in Google results. I also see internal links on GSC to say a page mywanderlust.in/questions which is only supposed to be linked from one tab, but GSC telling internal links to this page (mywanderlust.in/questions) from all those 3 tabs. Also, Moz Pro crawl reports informed me about duplicate content issues, although surprisingly it says the issue exists only on a small fraction of our indexable pages. Is it hurting our SEO? Any suggestions on how we could handle the url structure better to make it optimal for indexing. FWIW, we're using a fully responsive design with the displayed content being exactly same for both desktop and mobile web. Thanks a ton in advance!

Manage category pages and duplicate content issues
Hi everybody, I am now auditing this website www.disfracessimon.com
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | teconsite
this website has some issues with canonicals and other things. But right now I have found something that I would like to know your opinion. When I was checking parts of the content in google to find duplicate content issues I found this: I google I searched: "Chaleco de streck decorado con botones" and found First result: "Hombre trovador" is the one I was checking -> Correct
The following results are category pages where the product is listed in. I was wondering if this could cause any problem related with duplicated content. Should I no index category pages or should I keep it?
The first result in google was the product page. And category pages I think are good for link juice transfer and to capture some searchs from Google. Any advice? Thank you0 -
Merging Sites: Will redirecting the old homepage to an internal page on the new site cause issues?
I've ended up with two sites which have similar content (but not duplicate) and target similar keywords, rather than trying to maintain two sites I would like to merge the sites together. The old site is more of a traditional niche site and targets a particular set of keywords on its homepage, the new site is more of an authority site with a magazine type homepage and targets the same set of keywords from an internal page. My question is: Should I redirect the old site's homepage to the relevant internal page on the new website...
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | lara_dar
...or should I redirect the old site's homepage to the new site's homepage? (the old site's homepage backlinks are a mixture of partial match keyword anchor text, naked URLs and branded anchor text) I am in two minds (a & b!) (a) Redirecting to the internal page would be great for ranking as there are some decent backlinks and the content is similar (b) But usually when you do a 301 redirect the homepage usually directs to the new homepage and some of the old site's links are related to the domain rather than the keyword (e.g. http://www.site.com) and some people will be looking for the site's homepage. What do you think? Your help is much appreciated (and hope this makes sense...!)0 -
My landing page changed in google's serp. I used to have a product page now I have a pdf?
I have been optimizing this page for a few weeks now and and have seen our page for up from 23rd to 11th on the serp's. I come to work today and not only have I dropped to 15 but I've also had my relevant product page replaced by this page . Not to mention the second page is a pdf! I am not sure what happened here but any advice on how I could fix this would be great. My site is www.mynaturalmarket.com and the keyword I'm working on is Zyflamend.

Artist Bios on Multiple Pages: Duplicate Content or not?
I am currently working on an eComm site for a company that sells art prints. On each print's page, there is a bio about the artist followed by a couple of paragraphs about the print. My concern is that some artists have hundreds of prints on this site, and the bio is reprinted on every page, which makes sense from a usability standpoint, but I am concerned that it will trigger a duplicate content penalty from Google. Some people are trying to convince me that Google won't penalize for this content, since the intent is not to game the SERPs. However, I'm not confident that this isn't being penalized already, or that it won't be in the near future. Because it is just a section of text that is duplicated, but the rest of the text on each page is original, I can't use the rel=canonical tag. I've thought about putting each artist bio into a graphic, but that is a huge undertaking, and not the most elegant solution. Could I put the bio on a separate page with only the artist's info and then place that data on each print page using an <iframe>and then put a noindex, nofollow in the robots.txt file?</p> <p>Is there a better solution? Is this effort even necessary?</p> <p>Thoughts?</p></iframe>

SEO-Friendly Method to Load XML Content onto Page
I have a client who has about 100 portfolio entries, each with its own HTML page. Those pages aren't getting indexed because of the way the main portfolio menu page works: It uses javascript to load the list of portfolio entries from an XML file along with metadata about each entry. Because it uses javascript, crawlers aren't seeing anything on the portfolio menu page. Here's a sample of the javascript used, this is one of many more lines of code: // load project xml try{ var req = new Request({ method: 'get', url: '/data/projects.xml', Normally I'd have them just manually add entries to the portfolio menu page, but part of the metadata that's getting loaded is project characteristics that are used to filter which portfolio entries are shown on page, such as client type (government, education, industrial, residential, industrial, etc.) and project type (depending on type of service that was provided). It's similar to filtering you'd see on an e-commerce site. This has to stay, so the page needs to remain dynamic. I'm trying to summarize the alternate methods they could use to load that content onto the page instead of javascript (I assume that server side solutions are the only ones I'd want, unless there's another option I'm unaware of). I'm aware that PHP could probably load all of their portfolio entries in the XML file on the server side. I'd like to get some recommendations on other possible solutions. Please feel free to ask any clarifying questions. Thanks!
