Hi . I have a question regarding a surge in 302 temporary direct errors following reactivation of my site reviews.
-
Hi. i submitted the following question to the support team at volusion regarding a large number of 302 temporary redirects on the SEOMOZ crawl of following the reactivation of product reviews on my website. Here is the question and their response. Any opinions. Thanks
TRANSCRIPT:
Hi Howard,
Looking at the link you have referenced, this page is unable to be accessed unless you are logged into your site, so SEO isn't applicable for the page.
We would not be able to change the 302 redirect for this page.
Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions.
Thanks,
Meredith G.

Hi . I had a report of 302 temporary redirects when SEO moz did a simulated site crawl.
This is an example of the address of one of the many 302 temporary redirect errors which I think consume link juice or have some type of negative effect on SEO.
http://www.mrgrabbar.com/reviewhelpful.asp?ProductCode=GT100&ID=562&yes=yes
Since it is a live link I cannot seem to redirect it with a 301 redirect in the redirect manager. Is there anything I can do to handle these temporary redirects. They only are appearing now since I reactivated my reviews and I am concerned about the SEO effect that this may soon have.
-
Hi Ben,Where do you add the 'rel="nofollow"'? I can't seem to find it.
-
I've got the same problem with the 302 redirects and the "review helpful?" issue in Volusion. Did you figure out how to make these links "no follow" in Volusion?
-
Well, the nofollow tag doesn't consume any link juice, but it will save your "crawl allowance" - this means you want to cut back on Google crawling unnecessary links and pages. And since all those "review" links point to a login page, this can be seen as a low-value page.
-
Thanks Cyrus. I thought that I had read somewhere that the nofollow tag would consume link juice in that the flow of link juice would be interrupted and not circulate back through the site whereas the noindex follow would prevent indexing but conserve link juice.
I do not see a way to be able add tags to these particular pages in volusion and support at volusion seems to think these pages will not be crawled anyway
-
Without having much direct knowledge of Volusion, Ben appears to be correct. Since the links are being generated by the "leave a review" links, you don't really want these followed anyway.
Where you are thinking of adding the "NOINDEX, FOLLOW" or canonical tags?
-
Thanks Ben. I am also looking into the possibilty of using the "noindex, follow" tag or the "canonical" meta tag. What is your opinion on these and would these meta tags be added in the meta tags overide section. I actually do not see a way to add meta tags for the review helpful page within volusion. I do see a way that a met tag overide can be added for email a friend.
Thanks,
Howard

I have a client in Volusion as well. You need to go into the link on the page for leaving a review and add a "rel="nofollow" " tag to the link. This will solve your 302's.
I did the same thing to the "email a friend" option on the product pages and it solved that issue.

Thoughts on archiving content on an event site?
I have a few sites that are used exclusively to promote live events (ex. tradeshows, conference, etc). In most cases these sites content fewer than 100 pages and include information for the upcoming event with links to register. Some time after the event has ended, we would redesign the site and start promoting next years event...essentially starting over with a new site (same domain). We understand the value that many of these past event pages have for users who are looking for info from the past event and we're looking for advice on how best to archive this content to preserve for SEO. We tend to use concise urls for pages on these sites. Ex. www.event.com/agenda or www.event.com/speakers. What are your thoughts on archiving the content from these pages so we can reuse the url with content for the new event? My first thought is to put these pages into an archive, like www.event.com/2015/speakers. Is there a better way to do this to preserve the SEO value of this content?

E-commerce product and review pages
Hi, Can somebody tell me what is the best solution for optimizing review pages of product for e-commerce site? For now situation is this: When somebody write review for product, url-s automatically generate for review page. Review page has same page title, meta description (which is the product description) as product page and link with anchor (excact product name) point back to orginal product. The problem is that I often see in SERP that actually review pages rank better than original product pages. Regards, Nenad

Why that many Crawl Diagnostics errors, false?
Hi, my fist question, trying to understand how seomoz pro works. I have about 680 crawl erros, but when I check the details, I found this: 1. many 403 errors ( I think from all links). > I have tested my web site (telcelsolcom.com) in other tools and all says OK 200 response. 2. many title and content duplicates, but the system is showing as duplicated pages with and without the www. > I have a 301 redirect from non www to with www and it is working ok. Do I have false errors? What am I doing wrong? thanks.

What are the benefits of footer expanded site maps?
Many sites display a site map on the bottom of each page with a limited depth of around two deep. Has anyone done a A/B test on this, for selected search terms? Is this good practice?

Site Structure
I'm confused about the best way for seo to set up the site structure . i understand the examples of the pyramid diagrams and how link juice flows, however does this mean that global navigation is not good? It appears the pyramid structure leads to the designated number of category pages (we'll use five) and they lead to the 5 content pages etc and some "superman pages" can be linked to from the home page but is this is global navigation or anchor text navigation and is gloval navigation acdeptable for content pages? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

301 Re-directing a page
Hi, My website is appearing on page 1 of Google for a specific keyword, however when clicking on the search result, the page is out of date. As a short term solution, I have 301 redirected the url to a more up to date page on my website and beginning to optimise the on page content of this new page Is there any recommendations on what to do with the old page that appears on page 1 Google - as the page title, meta description and url displayed is out of date? Any help, best practise would be great...

Is there any benefit in on-site duplicate content?
I have about 50 internal pages on my site that I want to add a "Do it yourself tutorial" to in an effort to build the quality of the pages. Is this going to de-value the content if I put it on all 50 pages? It's difficult to write similar content 50 different ways.
