How better can we compare with a competitor ?
-
We were ranking 1st to 5th spot for the keyword, "PSD to Joomla Template"
for this page,
http://www.qubesys.com/psd-to-joomla-template/ for last 2 years! But since last 6 months, we are getting like 0 traffic to this page and absolutely no leads. We just tried to compare with a ranking competitor who has been on top for last 7-8 months already,
www.joomla6teen.com/Convert-PSD-to-Joomla-Template.html
I just compared it with my page,
I see our page wins in PAGE METRICS , but falls in SUB DOMAIN AND ROOT DOMAIN Metrics . Whats that ?
How do we know, what all things we need to improve at ?

Run a "Full Report" to see more metrics. Here's a screenshot: http://static.seomoz.org/uploads/run-full-serp-report.jpg

Hi Cyrus,
Thanks for your reply! Here is my input :
1. In the SERP Analysis tool, it only shows the rank and view details shows page and domain authority. How else can we compare the metrics to see the space to improve ?
2. No such google penalty message from google to us. I checked Google Webmaster Tools > Site Messages.

Hi Monali,
Root domain and subdomain metrics are definitely important. While I can't tell you what Google is using to rank your page, it's definitely worth reading about.

One good way to see where your competitor is beating you is to run a "Full Report" using the SERP Analysis tool (run the full report after you run the basic report) This should give you an overview of where your competitor is beating you on certain metrics.
Also, you may be right that you've been hit with a Penguin like penalty. In this case, it may be worth it to clean up any bad links you have. If you've received any penalty messages via Google Webmaster Tools, then following this process up with disavowing any remaining links and filing a reconsideration request would be in order.
And keep building good content and earning good links!
Best of luck with your SEO. - Cyrus

So you mean, more the links coming to root domain is good ?
I dont think so!
The only reason I see is, our page was manually tried to rank like by submitting to websites and directories and thus it has affected. I think, we need to remove every link out there by requesting and then we should be good to go.

You probably have more links pointing to your PAGE, but your competitor probably has more links pointing to their DOMAIN.

The competitors that compete for the same keywords as this domain, ranked by visibility. Other websites that compete with this domain for the same keywords, ranked by visibility. Visibility (What does the visibility rating mean on this report)?
For example: If you have a visibility of 8.33 on this report and your competitor has a rating of 6.21 or 4.64, is your visibility better than theirs?0 -
Ahrefs Much Higher Than Competitors But Competitors Doing Significantly More Traffic?
Hey guys, I'm baffled by checking my Ahrefs ratings lately. It looks like our rating just went up considerably... from over 1 million to now around 500k. One of my main competitors, however, has a much lower Ahrefs rank (over 3 million) but he does a considerable more amount of traffic than we do... how is this? My domain rating is higher than his by a lot. Very curious how this works.

What's the best SEO way to benefit from your competitor's shutting down?
Hi ! Our main competitor is shutting down (website will be offline) at the end of the month and we are negotiating with them to buy their domain name: the idea would be to take advantage of their good rankings in the SERPs to redirect traffic to our pages (we're planning to crawl their site or get their sitemap and redirect th category / product pages to ours). The question is: for how long this strategy will be useful: days / weeks / months? (= for how long their pages will continue to appear in the SERPs from the day we enable the 301 redirections to our site?) Thanks in advance for your help! And if you have better suggestions, we're up to hear them of course.. 😉 Cheers

Competitor reporting
We are in the process of creating customer profiles, conducting in-depth keyword/competitor research, fleshing out a content strategy, addressing old content, meta data etc, and researching sites (particular industry news sites) relevant to our industry who could be sources of authoritative backlinks. Once we receive approval from the powers that be, we'll start putting our strategy in motion. However, we are looking at SEO efforts as a long-term plan the entire organization understands is necessary. If our strategy is sound, I would think we'll start seeing results and some competitors will begin to take notice (and action.) So here is my question: How easy is it for a competitor to "report" a small/medium size business as breaking Google's rules i.e. could a competitor claim we are scraping their content (or content off of any site for that matter) and anonymously email Google? I think the answer to that question is "yes." How closely would Google look into the claim? We have zero plans on doing anything shady or underhanded but I was wondering if it is a simple process for a competitor to impact our efforts this way? Thanks for any insight.

Can anyone suggest a AHREF's alternative?
Hello Everyone,
Competitive Research | | Juratovic
Now that AHref's has killed their keyword analysis I am on the search for a substitute.I just can't see paying $80 per month for their link analysis only even-though I do find their link index to be much much much more updated then any other company even SeoMoz (sorry Rand and company). Does anyone have any suggestions? SemRush is the only one I have seen to come close. Thank you! Pete0 -

Can you track multiple domains with the same key words and not use up your keyword limit?
I have roughly 7 domains that I am trying to monitor with the same set of keywords. Is there a way to do this without using up your keyword limit. They are the same words just different sites.
