Keyword in Domain Name
-
Hello! My website is www.enchantingquotes.com. I also own the domain www.enchantingwallquotes.com,which forwards to my site. About 90% of my business comes from the keyword "wall quotes". Should I consider changing switching to the enchantingwallquotes.com domain and redirecting? And if I do, do I need to recreate the entire website or is there an easier way that I am overlooking?
Thank you for any advise/insight!

Thank you for the excellent advise, everyone! I feel much better now. Was worried I was missing out on an opportunity but feel comfortable now staying where I am. THANK YOU!

I wouldn't change a thing. You have 8 sitelinks which most companies would kill for. You domain authority is a 30 and your page authority is a 38. You get really good traffic too (>5,000/mo).
Your domain name is less important then people make it out to be. Having a keyword in your URL can help but it doesn't have to be at the domain level. Something like www.enchantingquotes.com/wall-quotes would do just fine.
I personally feel that "Enchanting Quotes" is much more 'brandable' then "Enchanting wall quotes". Google is going more and more towards brands and you have all the signals of good branding.

Cindy,
Check out: http://pro.moz.com/campaigns/your account number/keyword-difficulty/
With your account number, you will see that points are given to keyword rankings that use the word in the URL, however also notice that its domain and page authority that are king. So even if you change domains and 301 the old domain to the new one, that the quality of links your website receives will out preform any URL name you choose. Also check the old domain for bad link juice before you go through with the renaming decision. It may be carrying with it links you may not want to have associated with your new URL.
My best advice is to focus your efforts on obtaining quality links to the URL you already use.

Hi Cindy,
No, I wouldn't switch domain just to work in an exact match domain name. Being already established and having decent rankings for your main term, such a change probably isn't going to bring you the value you're thinking it might. Keep on working to develop your existing brand through content on your site and via social channels and you'll make good progress with your existing domain.

Hi Cindy
If your current site at enchantingquotes.com is ranking well for your the main keyword for your business then I would not change anything.
IMHO_, m_oving everything over and then setting up redirects is not going to be worth it for the time it will take to do it and the result could be a possible negative impact. By the fact that you are ranking currently means your current site is trusted for the search phrase. Moving everything could undo that trust.
For your other domain enchantingwallquotes.com rather than just redirecting it you may be better using that as as a blog site or something like that has useful content on your target market and which then links to your current site.
I hope that helps<

Old domain to new domain
Hi, A website on server A is no longer required. The owner has redirected some URLS of this website (via plugin) to his new website on server B -but not all URLS. So when I use COMMAND site:website A , I see a mixture of redirected URLS and not redirected URLS.Therefore two websites are still being indexed in some form and causing duplication. However, weirdly when I crawl with Screaming Frog I only see one URL which is 301 redirected to the new website. I would have thought I'd see lots of URLs which hadn't been redirected. How come it is different to using the site:command? Anyway, how do I move to the new website completely without the old one being indexed anymore. I thought I knew this but have read so many blogs I've confused myself! Should I: Redirect all URLS via the HTACESS file on old website on server A? There are lots of pages indexed so a lot of URLs. What if I miss some? or Point the old domain via DNS to server B and do the redirects in website B HTaccess file? This seems more sensible but does this method still retain the website rankings? Thanks for any help

Geo Targeting a Country Domain
Hey Mozzers A customer of mine hosts an international web shop on a country domain (customer.ch) which is automatically targeted to 'Switzerland' by the Google Search Console. So far so good, the shops for Switzerland are all in a subfolders /ch/. However, there are 2 more shops in two more subfolders: /de/ (for Germany) and /row/ (for the rest of the world). Google thinks both /row/ and /de/ are Swiss shops which results in searchers on Google.ch currently getting /row/ with the wrong currency and language pair. Question: I can't set the targeting for customer.ch/de/ in the search console to Germany, it's set by the domain country to Switzerand. Also, the customer doesn't own customer.de. How can I still let Google know that customer.ch/de/ is the shop to be displayed only to searchers from Germany, but not to searchers from Switzerland? Thx!

Will doing a 301 redirect for one domain to another give the latter domain the formers links?
I have some websites that I built a few years ago that are still in existence, but I no longer have access to the sites as they weren't hosted by myself. These sites all carry a "Designed by Me" text on the footer with a link to my (now old) website. I have since done 301 redirects on the domain names that are used in the footers of these sites so they link directly to my new site. However, will these websites now show up on Google Webmasters for example as external links to my site?

How About Moving My Site to Another Domain?
My website has been hit by a Google Penguin penalty. At this point, it seems very few websites have recovered from this penalty even after it was lifted. That said, I'm still wondering if I should start a new website or my current one to another domain. When I started my website, I registered the domain name http://www.thewebhostinghero.com A few years later, I bought webhostinghero.com as it became available. Actually, webhostinghero.com redirects traffic to thewebhostinghero.com at the registrar level. There are barely any links pointing to webhostinghero.com. TheWebHostingHero.com is quite a big website with over 1400 pages and some very useful tools (http://www.thewebhostinghero.com/free-tools) that took me so long to develop, I just can't believe I'd have to throw it all out the window. So that said, do you think it would be possible to move all or some of the content from thewebhostinghero.com to webhostinghero.com? Would that make sense? Would webhostinghero.com come out as a copy of thewebhostinghero.com since the domain is similar, etc.? Of course, moving the content from thewebhostinghero.com to webhostinghero.com would have to be done without any 301/302 redirects to avoid passing bad link juice. At the same time, I don't want to end up with duplicate content on both domains.

Keyword density question.
For instance, if the keyword I'm targeting on a specific page is "New Orleans", the Keyword is everywhere it's supposed to be, title, meta, content, internal links, etc, .... So when I check my most relative key words with different tools, it always breaks the word up like: new - 12 times 2.3% orleans - 12 times 2.3% Should I try to fix this? or is this normal? and does google view this as 1 keyword when evaluating my site?

Multiple domain SEO strategy
Hi Mozzers I'm an AM at a web dev. We're building a new site for a client who sells paint to different markets: Paint for boats Paint for construction industry Paint for, well you get the idea! Would we be better off setting up separate domains - boatpaintxxx.com, housepaintxxx.com, etc - and treat each as a searate microsites for standalone SEO activity or have them as individual pages/sub doms from a single domain - paints4all.com or something? From what i've read today, including the excellent Beginners Guide - I'm guessing there's no definitive answer! Feedback appreciated! Thanks.

URL paths and keywords
I'm recommending some on-page optimization for a home builder building in several new home communities. The site has been through some changes in the past few months and we're almost starting over. The current URL structure is http://homebuilder.com/oakwood/features where homebuilder = builder name Oakwood Estates= name of community features = one of several sub-paths including site plan, elevations, floor plans, etc. The most attainable keyword phrases include the word 'home' and 'townname' I want to change the URL path to: http://homebuilder.com/oakwood-estates-townname-homes/features Is there any problem with doing this? It just seems to make a lot of sense. Any input would be appreciated.

How to 301 multiple domain names to a single domain
Hey, I tried to find and answer to this seemingly simple question, but no luck. So, I have one domain name with a website attached to it. I also registered all the other domain names that are similar to it or have different extensions - I want to redirect all the other domain names to my one main domain name without getting penalised by the big G. It looks like this: www.mainsite.com - this is my main domain I also have www.mainsite.com.au, www.mainsite.org, and www.mainsite.org.au which I all want to just redirect to www.mainsite.com I have been told that the best way to do this is a 301 redirect, but to do that you need to make a CNAME for all the other domains that points to www.mainsite.com. My problem is that I cannot seem to create a CNAME record for http://mainsite.com - I have it working for http://www.mainsite.com but not the non www record. What should I be doing differently? Is it just my DNS provider is useless? Thanks, Anthony
