Site titles / descriptions change - Google Algo Change ?
-
Hello,
During the weekend 4 of our sites automatically changed their search titles and descriptions at the same time.
They are not picking up the real pages: Title, Description. Our ranks are dropping because of this.can you please tell if it happened to you as well or if you recognize a problem here?
sites:

http://www.moonbingo.comin the attached examples:
for the kws searched - the results show different titles and descriptions.results for these pages:

We saw a lot of this across multiple client websites. Once we saw it on 2, we went and checked all of the others we are optimizing and noticed almost 50% of them changed. Mainly, their Home page Title and Description were modified for various searches related to the client's brand/business name.
Taking note of what Google had changed everything to and cross referencing to the on page content, we edited their Home page Title, Description and also portions of their body content or widget section content. We then resubmitted the sites to Google through Webmasters Tool and have seen most convert to what we want and Google is now displaying.
Try those tactics. Hope this was helpful based on our experiences. - Patrick

Yes, Google does change the title tag in it's Google search results, according to Google's Webmaster Tools Q&A site:
https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/35624?hl=en
Google says that it uses rich snippets of information from your site, as well as a DMOZ, too, for this information.
According to a Yoast article in March of 2013, they write, "So… Basically, Google says: we know better, you can try and write a title we like, but we reserve to do whatever to make people click on your result." ( Why Google won’t display the right page title: http://yoast.com/google-page-title/__)
Another article by Danny Sullivan of Search Engine Land in April 2013, "When Google Gets It Wrong By Changing the Titles of Web Pages" (http://searchengineland.com/google-title-wrong-157819) says, "Google doesn’t always use the HTML title tag of a web page, choosing instead to make its own title for a page, if it thinks it can do a better job. Here’s an example of it getting this completely wrong."
So, it appears that Google has decided it's page titles are better than yours…
Options:
-
Disallow Google to use DMOZ information in rich snippet information
-
Try changing your title tags again, or the content of the pages.
Hope this helps!

What happened on September 17 on Google?
According to mozcast: http://mozcast.com/ and to my own stats, Google had a pretty strong algorithm update on September 17. Personally I have experienced a drop of about 10% of traffic coming from Google on most of my main e-commerce site virtualsheetmusic.com. Anyone know more about that update? Any ideas about what changed? Thank you in advance for any thoughts! Best, Fab.

Links from high Domain authority sites
I have a relatively uncompetitive niche ranking around number 6 for my keywords. Would getting a few links from some Moz DA 80-90 and DA 90-100 sites help my rankings a lot? Some of the pages linking to me from these sites might be deep in the site pretty far away from the home page with pagerank of "unranked" or a grayed out bar and these pages linking to me might not have many links at all other than from the internal links of the site itself and would have a Moz PA of 10 or 20. Would these pass much pagerank or authority to my site or would they not be worth going after? These links to my site would be in context on a blog. Thanks mozzers!

Struggling with Google Bot Blocks - Please help!
I own a site called www.wheretobuybeauty.com.au After months and months we still have a serious issue with all pages having blocked URLs according to Google Webmaster Tools. The 404 errors are returning a 200 header code according to the email below. Do you agree that the 404.php code should be changed? Can you do that please ? The current state: Google webmaster tools Index Status shows: 26,000 pages indexed 44,000 pages blocked by robots. In late March, we implemented a change recommended by an SEO expert and he provided a new robots.txt file, advised that we should amend sitemap.xml and other changes. We implemented those changes and then setup a re-index of the site by google. The no of blocked URLs eventually reduced in May and June to 1,000 for a few days – but now the problem has rapidly returned. The no of pages that are displayed in a google search request of www.google.com.au where the query was ‘site:wheretobuybeauty.com.au’ is 37,000: This new site has been re-crawled over last 4 weeks. About the site This is a Linux php site and has the following: 55,000 URLs in sitemap.xml submitted successfully to webmaster tools robots.txt file has been modified several times: Firstly we had none Then we created one but were advised that it needed to have this current content: User-agent: * Disallow: Sitemap: http://www.wheretobuybeauty.com.au/sitemap.xml

How to show your ratings in the Google SERP
I've noticed that some organic search results are showing ratings just above the meta tag. How are these sites doing this? Example: If you search "cash advance", there is a result between #4 and #6 in the organic results. The site is "goldcashadvance.com". It's showing a 5-star rating in the result.

Implications of removing all google products from site
Is there any data on the implications of removing everything google from a site; analytics, adsense, webmaster tools, sitemaps, etc. Obviously they still have their search data and they say they dont use these other sources of data for ranking information but has anyone actually tried this or is there any existing data on this?
