Bolding Keywords
-
A client has just switched from us to another provider and I have been checking up on the work done and the only change they have made is to bold lots of keywords on each page - I thought this was a practice that did not work - is there any evidence of this working or not working? Any articles/proof that we are not using out dated practices as we stopped doing this ages ago and yet the new provider is doing this.
Who is right or wrong?
-
we doubled her traffic and were just waiting for the off site seo to start to have an effect but she said it was taking too long and went somewhere else.
Hey... if bolding the keywords was a kickass method you would be seeing it EVERYWHERE!
I don't do that on my site because it gives the site a bad odor.
Don't worry so much about why she left. Start thinking about how to handle it when she returns. These guys could build a ton of junk links for you.
If you have copies of the files when you stopped work, you will not have to search the entire site to remove the code that these people have added.

Yep, agreed on both points Sometimes I think it's easy for us old-timers to forget that there are a lot of folks just starting out who might not have know the difference.

I assumed people would knew I meant !!! Personally I think it's going to be seen as over optimization and get penalized....

Hey guys, interesting thread about an old tactic. Fresh Fire Media, I feel your pain. I was an in-house SEO for a very similar business owner who laid me off so they could dump all their marketing money into domain spamming and fake blog networks. So frustrating, but sometimes all you can do is shake your head and move on. They'll learn the hard way.
Just a note for newbies reading this thread, and this might be screamingly obvious to you web devs out there, but when people say "bold" they don't really mean the tag. This tag is deprecated and has been for many years. They mean the tag. They both visually do the same thing, but to my knowledge the tag is completely ignored by search engines, while the tag can still be a signal to a bot that the content it contains is of some particular importance to the content of the page.
Hope that helps!

The Point is that You must have your Keyword in your title So If you have Keyword in your Title then It will be Bold
And I strongly believe that bolding keywords in Post Will not help SEO But yes,, Sometimes It will help users So you can do it for the users.
thanks

Strangely enough, Moz's "On Page Grader" does suggest bolding your keyword at least once and actually lists the number of bolds in the row of counts at the top.
So maybe it's still a little bit effective?

Was looking for proof - I feel sorry for the client as the other people have mis-guided her - we doubled her traffic and were just waiting for the off site seo to start to have an effect but she said it was taking too long and went somewhere else. I have proof in analytics that we doubled the traffic and sent it her just before she left but so clients won't learn. We are a small company with a conscience and hate to see people ripped off so not trying to get her back so much as guide her and just send her some sort of proof without referring her to this post

Hi Buddy,
You are Right. Bold Words have nothing to do SEO and it just looked cheesy and spammy.
So There is No Need of doing that.
Regarding New Company that Took over your Clients; Well they are trying to prove a Point that they are working hard on their website But It will not help SEO.
You can see big authorized blogs like Google official and Moz Etc and You will never see bold words So You get the answer
thanks

I found this but it does not really answer the question...

Multiple times same keyword or Lsi / synonym.
Hello, I have a page with multiple bike tours on tour and under my image as anchor text linking to the different destination I have written the region + bike tour. Is it ok to write bike tour that many times bike tours or would it be better to write variations of it such as "Bordeaux biking, Strasbourg to Colmar by bike for (Alsace bike tour) or doesn't it matter ? Thank you,

Keyword research
Do I understand it correctly ? Let's say my keyword is Piedmont bike tours. From what I understand I need to use synonyms of Piedmont bike tours that people would use to find my website such as bike trip in Piedmont or cycling vacation in Piedmont and then closely related phrases in my content which are not necessarily synonyms but that semantically related, correct ? Do I need to do that for every topic that I decide to talk about on my webpage. For example let's say another topic I have decided to talk about on my page about Piedmont bike tour is Barolo. Do I need to do the same process for Barolo ? Thank you,

A specific keyword has dropped from #1 in Google to nowhere at all...
Hi guys, I hope you can help. We have a large ecommerce website which has different domains for each language - GB, USA, DE, AU & CA. I've been working my way through the errors that have been flagged in Moz and today I noticed something quite worrying. One of our strong keywords has dropped from 1st place to nowhere at all. However, the Canadian version is ranking in the UK desktop search and our mobile site is appearing in the desktop search too. The keyword is 'personalised macbook cover' and the page in question is https://www.mrnutcase.com/en-GB/personalised-macbook-cover/ I'm confused as this page was ranking brilliantly a couple of weeks ago and now it's nowhere to be seen. We've added alternate and canonical tags to distinguish which site is mobile and which site is desktop. We've also submitted a sitemap so that it takes into account all of the languages. There are no harmful links and we've changed the content of the page across each language. I've attached what appears in the SERP's in the UK. (there is the mobile version ranking at the top and the Canadian version further down the page) Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Danny webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=personalised%20macbook%20covers

301 / 404 & Getting Rid of Keyword Pages
I had a feeling that my keyword focused pages were causing my site not to rank well. I do not have that many keywords. I have 2 main keyword phrases along with 6 city locations. For example (fake) "tea house tampa" "tea house clearwater" "tea house sarasota" and "tea room tampa" "tea room cleawater" "tea house sarasota". So, I don't feel that I need that many pages. I feel like I can optimize my home page and maybe 1 or 2 topic pages. Right now, I have a keyword for each of those phrases. These are all internal pages on 1 domain. Not multiple domains. Sooo... I tested it by 301ing a few of my "tea house" KW pages to the home page. And low and behold... my home page rose BIG TIME! Major improvement! I'm talking like 13th to 2nd! Here is my question... how should I proceed? My SEO has warned me against 301ing too many pages all pointing to the home page. He says that will negatively impact my ratings. Should I 404 some pages? Should I build a "tea room" topic page and 301 that set there? What is worse? 301 or 404? How many is too many? I'm really excited by these results, but I'm scare to move forward and hurt what has happened. Thanks in advance!

Wordtracker vs Google Keyword Tool
When I find keyword opportunities in Wordtracker, I'll sometimes run them through Adwords Keyword tool only to find that Google says these keywords have 0 search volume. Would you use these keywords even though Google says users aren't searching for them?

Should I Decrease My Keyword Density
On SEOmoz's On-page tool it is telling me that I should cut the number of phrases for a specific key phrase almost in half, from 27 to 15. However my keyword density for this page is only 1.68%. I would have thought that was a good keyword density to have, if not even a little higher. Should I trust the tool and decrease this keyword phrase? Would love to hear from anyone with experience in this. If you want to see the page it is http://www.mybluedish.com/. The key phrase is "satellite internet"

Creating new pages for geo targeted keywords
What's the best way to go about creating new pages for geo targeted keywords for a business? I ask because, these keywords are areas that they provide service to, but the brick and mortar business is not located. I've already run into problems trying to put too many locations onto one page. What's the best way to attack content for these new pages in order to get these geo keywords in there?
