Unnatural Links on Forum Posts
-
Google responds to my reconsideration request. They give me like 2 links of the many unnatural links which are actually people mentioning our website in their conversation.
- How can that be unnatural, legitimate people discussing about our website services?
- Even if it's unnatural, how can I possibly remove a backlink from a forum post?
-
Jorge, thanks for your question! You've received several solid responses. Did any of them answer your question?

I have had it happen a few times where a truly natural link was given as an example of an unnatural one. Â In each case, however, the example given was indicative of a large pattern in which there truly were unnatural links. Â For example, in one case, the example given was a keyword anchored link in a blog post. Â This link was not paid for or asked for in any way and really was natural. Â However, the site I was working on had once belonged to a program called Blogitive that would pay bloggers to write short blog posts and link to people using keywords. Â Even though the example link was natural, there were many other links similar to this one that were paid links.
In our case, we attempted to remove the natural link along with the unnatural ones. Â We also looked at our backlink profile and removed other links that probably were natural but would be hard to tell and possibly could have been construed by Google as unnatural. Â We did this by sorting our links by anchor text. Â Who knows, we may have gotten the penalty lifted by just removing the unnatural ones and telling Google that those other keyword anchored links were natural, but we decided to err on the side of caution and be really thorough. Â This site had their penalty removed and had a beautiful improvement in traffic as well as a Penguin recovery. Â But, it was a hard penalty to remove because their unnatural links were hard to distinguish from their natural ones.
Regarding your second question, if you can't get the link removed, then show Google that you have tried by including a Google Doc spreadsheet that shows that you have gathered the email address of the forum, the whois address and tried using any contact form available. Â Then, disavow the link on the domain level.
But don't make the mistake of just going after the two links given. Â If those were the only 2 unnatural links left they would have passed you. Â There are likely a number of forum posts that really were self made.

Hi Jorge,
As ImWaqas so very well put it, it doesn't matter what we think Google is the boss and we just have to suck it up. You could try emailing the forum but if I'm honest you might as well just disavow the links and get on. Check your back links too remember Google doesn't like low quality links this can include blog comments, forums etc.
As Matt Cutts has mentioned don't be shy if you have had a penalty.
Good luck to you.

I'd take a strong look at where those conversations are taking place. If the forum is spammy - or has been in the past - a simple mention and link of your business (even if it's being done legitimately) will raise a red flag. It also may say something bigger about your link profile as a whole. Are all your links coming from similar sources (i.e. forums)?
As far as removal, you could try and contact the person directly through the forum (if possible). It may require you signing up for that forum. You could also try and use the disavow tool as a last ditch effort. Not sure how successful that would be, however.
My ultimate suggestion? Diversify your backlink profile.

1 - Buddy It does not matter What We think. Right now Its all Google and We have to admit it, If they are saying these are unnatural links then it is So lets move forward.
2- If these links are from Good Forums then I contact their support and they will have your link deleted otherwise You have to use disavow tool.
Thanks

#Page Jump link sharing
Hi I'm managing an in-house link building campaign in order to help in our key search term 'Location Holidays'. We were historically number 1 for this term until a recent re-design in May where our web design agency butchered our SEO. All of the main issued fixed, we're now fluctuating between 3rd & 4th on a daily basis. I'm putting together a social share comp to promote through the press in order to boost our backlink profile. We're nesting the competition within the body of the page we want to improve the rankings for. I will be including a #page jump link to quickly access it as it will be further down the page. My question is that if we get press to link to http://holidaycompany.com/destination/#comp will http://holidaycompany.com/destination/ receive the link juice or will http://holidaycompany.com/destination/#comp be looked upon as a whole new page? Thanks in advance!

Should I no follow all external links?
I have worked with a few different SEO firms lately and a lot of them have recommended on the sites I was working on to "no-follow" all external links on the site. On one hand this traps all the link equity/Pagerank. Â On the other I would think this practice is frowned upon by Google. What are some opinions on this?

Internal Links on eCommerce sites
I have been working on an eCommerce site; www.pretavoir.co.uk over the past year. Improvements in SERPs have been good with many top three positions. However, there are other important keywords of similar difficulty which refuse to behave in a similar way.... The site is PR4 and has a homepage PA 52. The homepage includes links to internal brand pages eg Prada, Gucci etc. Q Would it be worthwhile creating footer anchor text with eaxct text eg Prada sunglasses, Gucci Sunglasses?? Thanks

When to SEO optimize a blog post?
Hi there, Here's our situation: there are two people working on the blog. person 1) writes the posts person 2) SEO optimizes the posts I know this is not ideal but it's the best we can do and it's a whole lot better than no blog. đ I'm the fellow optimizing the posts. I've found that my best SEO efforts usually slightly undermine the readability of these posts -- not in an extreme way, I'm not going overboard with keywords or anything. Rather, things like a sexy & enticing article heading may have to be dummed down for search engines... Because of this dumming down, I like to wait a couple of weeks to SEO optimize our posts, the logic being that we get the best of both worlds: a happy regular readership on topic articles that are clearly described for (and aligned to the terms used by) our search engine visitors What I'm wondering is, Generally: can you see any problems with this setup? would you do it differently? Specifically: does Google (et al) punish this sort of backwards re-writing? and, does it somehow amount to less SEO mojo when done retroactively? Thanks so much for your time! Best, Jon

Javascript funtion as link? Why not show up?
We joined our Chamber of Commerce for the "link" as much as anything. After 9 months of having a link from our local chamber it has never showed up anywhere. You can see the link on my Chambers page, and you can click on it and it works. But it does not show up anywhere else....Not in any backlink checker, not in SEOmoz, not in Google Webmaster Tools. When I hover over our link on their page I see "javascript:encodeclick........my url" Is this link worth anything? What is a javascriptencodeclick? Does Google know it exists and give me credit for it? Our Chamber is clueless... they hire someone to do their website. Their webmasters response to my question was: Hi, These links look like this because this is just the way our system parses URLs that are entered into the membership directory so they can be clickable when displayed in the lister. These links will not have a negative effect on Google or SEO indexing purposes if that is what you are concerned about. They are not encoded or encrypted, this just happens to be the name of the Javascript function.
