Changing to HTTPS and Webmaster Tools
-
I have recently added an SSL certificate to my site robt.info to make a nice and secure bitcoin e-commerce store to sell children's books in.
My question is, even after 301 redirecting everything from http://robt.info to https://robt.info, changing canonicals and all that... do I need to submit the HTTPS version as a new site to Webmaster tools?
OR, can I just leave the HTTP version in there as the only site for the HTTPS??
I guess what I am asking is... does google know that the HTTPS version is now the one true version with out me adding another site in Webmaster tools????
thanks in advance. rob

What is the best way to handle the sitemap for this situation? Do we need separate sitemaps for http and https?

Thanks Martijn... noticable benefits as a result of doing so

Hi Rob,
I would always recommend to also add the HTTPS version to Google Webmaster Tools. I even go as far nowadays to both register the www and non www version of the domain name in Google Webmaster Tools. Mostly I want to be absolutely sure that I see all the data on our own project or for clients.

Domain and Sub-Domain Question
Hi, My company owns the domains www.NYSTATEMLS.COM and www.MYSTATEMLS.COM both of these sites are already on there way with a lot going on. I did just review video 5 on technical SEO and Rand was talking about how much harder it is to rank two websites. So i'm wondering what could be done in this area? Should something be done? The website nystatemls.com is necessary because it's dedicated to the state of new york & has been around for a long time. mystatemls.com came later because the business grew and we opened up to the national market. Looking for some insight. Thanks so much, Chris Farcher

Should this site be using Rel=Canonical VS No Index
I'm currently working on this site https://www.visitliverpool.com/accommodation I've been watching this video by Rand - https://moz.com/blog/rel-canonical but it's still unclear in this scenario. if you use the search facility "check availability" half way down the page the results page (urlparams) are no indexed. Would it be better to index and canonicalise? There is no similar content but I'm concerned that no index will remove the ability for semantic content to be visible to google. LADkajY

Creating Interactive Tools
Hi i'm interested in learning more on how to create interactive tools for content purposes as Rand mentioned in this video - http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-to-win-a-content-arms-race-whiteboard-friday Is there any good resources out there which dive into the process e.g. how to go from the idea of the tool, to creation, design, programming, etc? Or just anything on creating cool interactive tools. Cheers, Mark
