2 Word EMD's - Good of bad for SEO
-
Hello Again Moz Folks,
I have a domain: www.edmontonweb.ca
It is currently on page 2 and I'm trying to figure out ways to improve its ranking.Because it is an EMD, I considered forwarding it to www.launchwebdesign.ca
Considering there is existing Domain Authority on edmontonweb.ca, is this a good move?
Would forwarding the domain transfer DA to launchwebdesign.ca?Thanks,
Anton

Hi Anton! Great question and hope my response will help you out in the thought process...
- Whether EMD's are bad or good has been discussed at great length both here in Moz and elsewhere. If your website seems spammy, poor content, poor quality links, incorrect on-page optimization, etc... then your EMD would be useless against those stronger sites/brands. Another item to strongly consider is that Google wants to see more "branding" across the web since their algo's are smart enough to correlate your products and services (most of the time and will continue to improve as they evolve) to your brand/business name/personal name. In your case, your company is called Launch, and your domain is an EMD. May be fishy. May not be. That is for Google to decide as your site doesn't look spammy or poorly executed. We just will never 100% know if Google will flag it.
2. You never mentioned what keywords your website is displaying on page 2 for... If you provided that, then we could take a very quick glimpse at the competition currently outranking your site based on PA/DA, Google PR, links, content, etc.
3. I'm really liking your other domain and here's why. It has your company name and a keyword. I'd migrate what you have from edmontonweb.ca to launchwebdesign.ca immediately. Why? Because your current domain doesn't really have too high of PA/DA, you have PR 0, and you have 5 linking root domains (LRDs). A quick fix to migrate the WordPress site over to the new domain, submit your XML sitemap, set up your Analytics and Webmasters Tools and then go back into those 5 LRDs (if you can, or place a request) to change the linking domain to your launchwebdesign.ca
4. Build your links with your keywords and your branding now to the new domain and begin building authority for that. Forward the edmontonweb.ca just in case anyone has it saved to cover any potential missed leads.
5. Your DA will not transfer to the new domain, however, as mentioned before, you don't have much to worry about if you can get the new domain set up properly, move the site and change the LRDs. Then rock and roll from there as you would before to build your Launch brand! Your DA/PA will jump up relatively fast, I'd imagine.
6. I went through your site and you could begin pumping some useful, original articles into your blog as well. Google enjoys coming back to index more content. So feed the beast!! And as you do that build links to your inter pages or other blogs articles you have written over time and any authority blogs where you can reference material, stats, facts, advice, tips, etc.
Hope this was a good answer and helps you out! - Patrick

Spaces between Letters and Numbers SEO question
This is a fun one - Example: Mercedes Benz is pushing to have all of there vehicle models to coincide with the world branding such as the "C300" is supposed to be "C 300" and the "E300" is supposed to be "E 300"... I have a few issues here as when I use Voice Search for "Mercedes Benz C 300" there is no way (that I know of) to add a space between the number and letter. In addition, when searching for the "C 300 for sale" Google corrects the text with "Did you mean: C300 for sale". I am seeking a way to accommodate both versions of the models WITHOUT adding the both C300 and C 300...etc. to the text on web pages. OR will Google eventually change the model names over time as Mercedes-Benz regulates the new U.S. naming convention. Tough question - any thoughts? Thank you for your help -

Feedback to what to offer to my clients on my SEO website - local to Boise ID
Hi, I'm targeting Boise, Idaho and building an SEO consulting website. Right now I only offer 3 things because that's what I have experience in: 1. On-site SEO 2. Content Audit 3. Start a company from scratch. Ecommerce, Service, or Informational I know #3 involves all SEO, so it will be challenging, but 1-3 is what I've been doing for 10 years. What feedback do you have as far as 1-3 being my 3 offers, and is $200/hour fair? I work off quotes by estimating my time at $200/hour. Thanks.

Handling redirects when 2 companies merge
I am working with 2 local businesses that are joining forces to create 1, new business. Both individually hold consistent position 1 and 2 in Google for the majority of their chosen terms. However, the merger will see a new brand name and therefore a fresh out of the box domain. I have suggested setting up a partition on the hosting for both old URLS. All that will be hosted there would be .htaccess files with 301s to the like-for-like pages on the brand new domain / website. This will obviously also aid UX. However, is this overkill? I personally think not... but would a domain level 301 redirect work just as well from preserving / passing on any authority to the new URL.

Please tell me why we can't outrank a competitor with such poor metrics
Hi ! New here I'm trying to help a customer rank in the 1st page on a low-mid competition term in a specific city. I did a comparison of both URL in MOZ "Compare link Metrics" & we beat them on 85% of the metrics. They are on the 1st page, often top-3, the closest position we can get is about 13-15. The only higher metric they have is Domain MozRank & MozTrust + equity passing link (??) We are running WordPress with Genesis, they are running a custom site. See attached printscreen of the report. Help ! b60HidT

Creating SEO Time Management Strategy
Hey Mozzers! Everything nowadays is automated- social media, content calendars, etc.. I am trying to get more organized with my time so that I can make sure each client is getting a fair amount of work, but this can be tough as one person managing 20 various campaigns; it leaves little time for connecting with influencers and finding those organic connections for link building. I was recently watching an old WBF 'Building a Monthly SEO Action Plan' and it missed the mark a bit on what I was hoping for. I was wanting Rand's time and what he prioritizes; reporting, link building, content refinement... What SEO time management strategy have you found useful? How do you break down your time each month/per campaign? Thanks!!!
