Why Pre roll Youtube video ads are being recorded into Organic Traffic?
-
Hi Mozzers,
Last month, one of our clients(appliance and kitchen design) has started a video ad campaign on Youtube for a specific Appliance brand, since then I have noticed Organic traffic has been inflated. I was able to figure it out thanks to some keywords that we never ranked for.
How is this possible? Google Analytics should at least be able to segment that into a Youtube Referral traffic.

Thank you for do more investigation Phil!
This is really frustrating getting skewed Organic data because of Google's lack of involvement into this!! Please feel free to share some hacks if possible!
Thanks Again

Hi Taysir,
I share your pain....an fully agree that GA should be able to deal with this better.... but unfortunately it can't. The YouTube GA integration is pretty terrible (I have plenty of conspiracy theories as to why this hasn't been prioritized in terms of development.....) and there's not a lot you can do without some weird hacks to include referral parameters.
I'll have a word with some of the PPC teams internally at Distilled to see what our general approach is on this at the moment, but just to pre-warn you that this is an ongoing problem on our side too, so I'm not sure I'm going to have anything good to share I'm afraid!

Can Segment capture organic traffic? If so is it more reliable than Google Analytics?
Hi mozzers, We just learned that our standard GA hasn't been as reliable as we hoped so and we are trying to find other ways to track organic sessions. Which solution would you consider? Is Segment one of them? If so, is it more reliable than Google Analytics? Thanks

Is Google's Knowledge Graph stealing sessions from the organic channel?
Does Google count it as an organic session in Google Analytics when a searcher clicks on the "get directions", "call" or even "website" from Google's Knowledge Graph. Are the articles that prove or disprove this question? Thanks!

How to FILTER in Google Analytics an ad campaign from linkedin?
Hi mozzers We are setting up an a linkedin ad campaign for our agency and want to track its traffic and conversions. The linkedin ad will carry UTMs for each link. For tracking this campaign accurately I thought about creating a new GA View with a specific filter. So my question is about the filtering, should i use the INCLUDE, REFERRAL with pattern LINKEDIN.COM (see image)? if not what would be the best way to track this campaign? My other concern is that we are also running other a job ad on linkedin and I feel these hits will be tracked as well. Is there a way to separate those 2 campaigns? Thanks guys! MzE5hqE.png

Turkish Invasion? Massive influx of non-english traffic
Last month, a client of mine has had a very large increase in irrelevant traffic. This traffic is all being sent by Google from mostly eastern Europe, but also from Egypt and Brazil. The largest influx is from Turkey. The traffic is all landing on only two URL's. The magnitude of this traffic is about 350 visits per day. The main keywords sending traffic are: müzik indirme programları (Turkish which translates to "music download programs") تحميل برنامج اوبرا (Arabic translates to "download Opera") program za skidanje muzike (Bosnian for "program for downloading music") My client is a small nonprofit summer music festival (with a strong emphasis on Opera music) so some of the on-page at least relates to these keywords. But the site is entirely in English. Since the words are related to a traditional sketchy vertical I'm worried that my client site has been hacked. Though, for the life of me, I can't imagine what anyone can gain from this. My questions are: Does anyone have any idea what is going on? What are the potential ramifications of this irrelevant traffic? (I'm worried about the traffic slowing down the site, I'm also worried that 350 visits per day and a 95% bounce rate is going to hurt my clients reputation with search engines) What can be done about it? Thank you for any insight you can provide.
