Consolidating numerous landing pages using similar search terms
-
Hi,
The site I am working on currently uses numerous pages for search terms with similar keywords.
vehicle wrapping / vehicle wraps / car wrapping / car wraps / van wrapping / van wraps etc
Now obviously i want to bring these into one to help create one high authority page covering all terms. At present the "car wraps" page is ranking for quite a few of these terms. Am i best to stick with this or chose the highest search term being car wrapping, and pass the dribbles of juice from the rest and "car wraps" onto this?
This is aimed at a local demographic so the local terms will be thrown in too unless you think the places pages will work in favour?
Many thanks,
-
Hi Lee,
My own guidelines for content development are pretty much ruled by a the question, "Does it make sense?". Typically, for service-oriented businesses, it's a good idea to have one page per service. It makes sense to do this, because, for example, someone looking for a contractor will search for 'fence building' if they want a fence built and 'deck building' if they want a deck built. So, having a unique page for each topic on the site makes sense as a way to welcome each customer to a really well-matched landing page that features information about the unique service they are looking for.
Some grey area arises, though, with a service like 'car wrapping' vs. 'van wrapping'. I'm not familiar enough with your industry to know whether this really qualifies as two separate services or not. You would know better. If wrapping a car represents a separate user need than wrapping a van, I would create two separate pages, provided I had totally unique things to write about the two services. Some businesses might even be building pages for different models of cars, if they discovered that people were searching that way (Toyota Wrapping, BMW Wrapping, etc.), but they should really only do so if it make sense for the user.
So, I guess the answer to your question lies in whether these different terms are just synonyms for an identical service or whether these really are different services people are searching for that require their own page to fully describe the offering. Hope this helps!

Hi,
Yes we are planning to use the blog more and focus it around the keywords.
In your opinion, is it best to have one page for all terms or should they be kept separate? I don't want to create duplicate content hence my thinking of consolidating into one.
This also works with our local terms, i guess we should be very careful producing multiple pages focused around different areas as they would be very similar in content.
Thanks,

Hi Lee4dcm,
It's great to have you here in the Q&A forum. If you plan to create one large page covering all terms, it does seem like good sense to build it on a URL that is already ranking highly. Can you incorporate 'car wrapping' into the page's optimization along with the other keywords as you create the new content? If the page is for a local service, you should definitely also optimize it for the name of the city in which the company is located. The website plays a major role in your local rankings, so it must be optimized for local and service terms, both. Hopefully, you have plans for an on-going content development strategy, too, such a blogging, in order to continue to publish new content surrounding core keyword phrases.

Adding Video to Landing Pages-Beneficial SEO Effect in Terms of Links & Visitor Engagement?
I run a New York City commercial real estate in New York City. Lately, I have started to produce 30-second videos about property listings and neighborhoods. I have noticed that the engagement for these videos on Facebook is much higher that for text posts. Should adding these videos on our website (hosting them on Youtube) result in increased visitor engagement? Could there be a positive SEO effect such as more links and higher quality links? Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks, Alan

301 redirect to search results page?
Hi - we just launched our redesigned website. On the previous site, we had multiple .html pages that contained links to supporting pdf documentation. On this new site, we no longer have those .html landing pages containing the links. The question came up, should we do a search on our site to gather a single link that contains all pdf links from the previous site, and set up a redirect? It's my understanding that you wouldn't want google to index a search results page on your website. Example: old site had the link http://www.oldsite.com/technical-documents.html new site, to see those same links would be like: http://www.newsite.com/resources/search?View+Results=&f[]=categories%3A196

Page 1 Reached, Further Page Improvements and What Next ?
Moz, I have a particularly tricky competitive keyword that i have finally climbed our website to the 10th position of page 1, i am particularly pleased about this as all of the website and content is German which i have little understanding of and i have little support on this, I am pleased with the content and layout of the page and i am monitoring all Google Analytics values very closely, as well as the SERP positions, So as far as further progression with this page and hopefully climbing further up page 1, where do you think i should focus my efforts ? Page Speed optimization?, Building links to this page ?, blogging on this topic (with links) , Mobile responsive design (More difficult), further improvements to pages and content linked from this page ? Further improvements to the website in general?,further effort on tracking visitors and user experience monitoring (Like setting up Crazyegg or something?) Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated, Thanks all, James

Should we show(to google) different city pages on our website which look like home page as one page or different? If yes then how?
On our website, we show events from different cities. We have made different URL's for each city like www.townscript.com/mumbai, www.townscript.com/delhi. But the page of all the cities looks similar, only the events change on those different city pages. Even our home URL www.townscript.com, shows the visitor the city which he visited last time on our website(initially we show everyone Mumbai, visitor needs to choose his city then) For every page visit, we save the last visited page of a particular IP address and next time when he visits our website www.townscript.com, we show him that city only which he visited last time. Now, we feel as the content of home page, and city pages is similar. Should we show these pages as one page i.e. Townscript.com to Google? Can we do that by rel="canonical" ? Please help me! As I think all of these pages are competing with each other.

My website (non-adult) is not appearing in Google search results when i have safe search settings on. How can i fix this?
Hi, I have this issue where my website does not appear in Google search results when i have the safe search settings on. If i turn the safe search settings off, my site appears no problem. I'm guessing Google is categorizing my website as adult, which it definitely is not. Has anyone had this issue before? Or does anyone know how to resolve this issue? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Value in purchasing domain name for targeted search term?
Is there any value in purchasing a domain name for a search term we want to target? If there is, would it be better to have it forward directly to our site, or create a landing page that would then link to our site and our products?

Should the sitemap include just menu pages or all pages site wide?
I have a Drupal site that utilizes Solr, with 10 menu pages and about 4,000 pages of content. Redoing a few things and we'll need to revamp the sitemap. Typically I'd jam all pages into a single sitemap and that's it, but post-Panda, should I do anything different?
