How do your direct social media to use another picture when the web site is shared?
-
I set up a web site to raise funds for my nephew(www.helpmatt.org) and social media randomly picks a picture on the share. Unfortunately this picture is from happier times and sends a different message than we would like to prospective contributors. Is there a way to set the picture that is used when this web site link is shared on social media?

I appreciate everyone's input. This was very very helpful ;)!

The best image size for Twitter is 880x440px and the best size for Facebook is 1200x627px.
If it's not working on Facebook, especially if it's a page you've updated, make sure to run the URL through the Facebook debugger tool.

You need to use Facebook's Open Graph tags and Twitter's Card tags in the section. That's the best way to define what image gets shared on social media platforms, since Google+, LinkedIn and others will adopt these tags.
A bare bones approach will look something like this:
Facebook OpenGraph
(Note: There are some prerequisites with Facebook, so be sure to follow their instructions)
Twitter Card
-
Yes use open graph tags, which is meta data just like a title tag or meta tag for a site

Does Google give more ranking weight for Shares for One Social Network over Another.
We are using BuzzSumo to explore the types of content that generate the highest number of shares per article. Does anyone have data to suggest that a share on Google+ carries more ranking weight than a share on Twitter or Facebook, or LinkedIn? We have seen a recent case with one of our client's competitors where they significantly grew their Google+ shares within a relatively short period of time and gained a higher rank for a key search phrase that my client is also targeting. Thank you, Rosemary Brisco

FB Sharing Contest Tracking Question?
We are going to give-a-way a PS4 through a social media contest. Likes, g+ circles and shares, but I wasn't sure if there was a problem tracking shares. I always thought I could just look at my FB posts and it would say how many shares. All I want to do is people to give someone an extra entry for sharing one of my post on his or her FB page. However, I've read that tracking shares can be difficult. I think the shares that are difficult to track are the ones beyond what I need, like if a 3rd party shared it or something, but I'm not sure. I want the contest to be as accurate as possible. Can anybody confirm or correct my thinking, please? Happy Thanksgiving Eve! Ruben

Building links to a Twitter/social account
I've seen plenty of articles about using Twitter to build links, but how about building links to a Twitter account? Does registering on sites and directories like Topsy, Twellow and Klout help? We can link to Twitter accounts on our own websites and other social profiles, and use it as our link on blog comments etc, but is there anywhere else specific?

Social Media Marketing focus and priorities for SEO
Hello Mozzers, I'm looking at Social Media Marketing and wondering what counts for most in terms of SEO - (A) shares and likes from specific web pages, or (B) followers, likes, etc., on social media profile pages? What does Google measure vis-a-vis your website? Also, regarding Twitter, if a twitterer forwards on a tweet manually (by inserting RT) - and his RT is then shared, does that count for anything, or is it better for clients if RTweeters simply press the RT button. And should I include URLs in tweets, facebook posts, etc? And do backlinks help beyond increasing website visitor numbers - do any of the social media marketing tools pass juice back to websites via backlinks? Thanks in advance :), Luke

Do facebook shares of deep links help the whole domain rank better?
What i mean by this is if we were to obtain 10-20 facebook shares for 10 different deep links like these: http://domain.com/deep-page/page-one
Social Media | | adriandg
http://domain.com/deep-page/page-two
http://domain.com/deep-page/page-three
http://domain.com/deep-page/page-four
... Would that help any of these rank better:
http://domain.com
http://domain.com/product1
http://domain.com/product2
etc... Extrapolating, does the same count for Twitter, Google+, etc?0 -
How much power does using keywords on Facebook and Twitter have from an SEO perspective?
Hi all, When we add a new Christmas party package onto our website I always tweet about it with a link to the party page, utilizing a tweet such as : "New Manchester Christmas parties", followed by the link. How much power (if any) does utilizing the key phrase Manchester Christmas parties have on SEO for that page? Bearing in mind the link is shortened and doesn't mention the keywords anywhere in it, they are only present in the tweet itself. Similarly, on our company Facebook page I always post a link with a title such as "check out our new Manchester Christmas parties". Does this have much SEO benefit for the page I'm directing the link to? Many thanks!!
