Is this type of navigation SEO friendly?
-
Hi mozzers,
I wanted to know if this type of navigation SEO friendly. Is it better than the regular drop down menu navigation?
Thanks!

Thank you guys for your contributions! Much appreciated!

Sitemaps serve a very different purpose from the on-page navigation, Dave. Both html and xml sitemaps are essential for helping ensure pages get crawled and indexed, but they do nothing to distribute and direct the ranking value from one page to another. So they help get your pages found by search engine crawlers but they won't help your rankings (i.e. getting found by your prospective visitors.)
Sitemaps are never a replacement for quality, well thought out, SE-accessible navigation and in-context links.

So long as you have an XML site map and a HTML sitemap, then Google shouldn't have any issues.
The HTML Sitemap could be a link at the bottom of your page

Just to update, Taysir - here's a screenshot of the same page with JavaScript disabled. Notice how the menu gracefully falls back to just a CSS-based regular dropdown. This is much more likely to be consistently crawled by search engines than the JS-dependent version.
This is the standard best practice for this type of situation, both for usability and SEO. A webpage should "just work" in a basic browser, and then can add additional appearance/functionality improvements for "enhanced" browsers. This is obviously what's best for users, and also gives the (very basic) search crawlers the best option as well.
In other words - mega menus are certainly NOT "better" for SEO, but they don't have to a problem either, if implemented correctly.
Hope that helps?

That's what's now typically referred to as a mega-menu, taysir. It uses JavaScript for the fancy display but If it's coded properly, there's a fallback version that uses regular html/CSS. (You can test by disabling JS in your browser then revisiting the page.)
Unlike Andy, I'm never willing to "trust" that search engines can handle JS-based navigation. It's just too big a risk for me. (Though his opinion is perfectly valid too). So I always make sure something JS-based like this has the CSS fallback version properly coded as well to be safest. Then I can certain it's SEO-friendly in all cases.

Depends. In their case it makes sense because they have too many links to have a typical drop down. Here's more content to read from Distilled which explains the dos and donts
-
It's a little awkward to tell as there is no URL to look at, but if Google is finding their way around your site, you can guess they probably have no issues.
Remember that Google is good at finding their way around Javascript menus, so these day, pretty much anything goes.
Just keep links natural, easy to follow and descriptive. You don't want to be trying anything spammy at this level.

Breadcrumbs on Mobile How important are they for SEO?
Due to Poor unsightly look of breadcrumbs and the space it takes up above the fold we only employ breadcrumbs on our desktop version. Breadcrumbs are hidden from view on mobile version. However as mobile first indexing is now in play what technical SEO impacts will this have? one thing that comes to mind is crawling deeper pages where breadcrumbs made them accessible in less than 3 link clicks? But i am unsure now of the impacts of not having breadcrumbs visible for mobile version of our site.

Issues with Magento layered navigation
Hi, We use Magento v.1.7 for our store. We have recently had an SEO audit and we have uncovered 2 major issues which can be pinpointed to our layered navigation. We use the MANAdev layered navigation module. There are numerous options available to help with SEO. All our filtered urls seem to be fine ie. https://www.tidy-books.co.uk/childrens-bookcases-shelves/colour/natural-finish-with-letters/letters/lowercase have canonical url correctly setup and the meta tags as noindex, follow but Magento is churning out tons of 404 error pages like this https://www.tidy-books.co.uk/childrens-bookcases-shelves/show/12/l/colour:24-4-9/letters:6-7 which google is indexing I'm at lost at how to solve this any help would be great. Thank you **This is from our SEO audit report ** The faceted navigation isn’t handled correctly and causes two major issues:● One of the faceted navigation filters causes 404 error. This means that the error isappended each sequence of the navigation options, multiplying the faulty URLs.● The pages created by the faceted nav are all accessible to the search engines. Thismeans that there are hundreds of duplicated category pages created by one of theparameters. The duplication issues can seriously hinder the organic visibility. The amount of 404 errors and the duplicated pages created by faceted navigation makes italmost impossible for a search engine crawler to finish the crawl. This means that the sitemight not be fully indexed and the newly introduced product pages or content won’t bediscovered for a very long time.

Redirect to a new domain and seo effects
I created a one page blogger with listing of several affiliated websites. It gained some visibility on google but it was very plain so i decided to create a wordpress more complex and fancy and to reach the top of search positions. At the moment i decided to keep the listing on blogger and add some links on the page saying "i've moved to a new website. click for more info" and it redirects to my page. But i dont get many clicks to my new site so i was thinking to maybe create a full redirect from my blogger to my wordpress or a iframe to fetch the wordpress but im afraid it may hurt my seo on my blogger. what should i do? thanks in advance

Google Blogger Intergration, any SEO benefit?
I want to use google blogger for my website blog, we want to intergrate it into the existing website (which is why wordpress isn't ideal as there is no php) if the domain was www.blog.mysite.com will www.mysite.com still recieve the seo bonuses of having a blog? or does it have to be www.mysite.com/blog otherwise i have little use for a blog, what i also want to ask is how does it intergrate? i don't want the blog on my site to be like a 'window' into the google blog site as that defeats the purpose, i need the content to actually be on my site to ensure the seo benefits. Thanks Dan

Problem of printer friendly version.
For one of our client's side, most of the backlinks are going to printer friendly version page. I recommeded to him to use the canonical tag on printer friendly version pointing to other page. Luckily, while searching i came across this posts at - http://www.seomoz.org/q/solving-printer-friendly-version The solution recommended was this - <link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" media="print" href="our-print-version.css"> My questions are - 1. what should i write in place of our-print-version.css Should it be print.css ? 2. Where do i place this code ? in which file ?

Restaurant menu SEO: PDF or HTML?
Is it better to use a PDF or hard code restaurant menus (or any document for that matter) in HTML? I want the content to be indexed and thought PDF was the way to go for several reasons, but I wanted to get confirmation on this before I move forward.

Keywords and content and seo advice please
Hi i am building a site at the moment which i am working on. please ignore the state of the site as we are just playing with designs at the moment but please do take notice of the top part. The site is a travel magazine but i am a bit concerned. The keywords that we will be looking at to drive travel will be as follows, cheap flights gatwick, holiday magazine and travel magazine. Now i do not want the site to look untidy with loads of content describing the site but at the same time i want google to know what the site is and for people to pick the site up with the search terms that we are aiming for. the site is www.cheapflightsgatwick.com Can anyone please show me some examples of how i should structure the site to attract the keywords and give me some advice. It seems hard when you are designing a magazine site where the content changes all the time to try and attract the search engines with your keywords. any advice would be great
