Internal Search Results Appear in Google SERPS
-
My friend is running an ecommerce store selling apparels. How can we make internal search results to appear in Google SERPS and rank them?
For example: the query is "peplum dress". You type the query into the internal search box and it returns a set of results. In this case, it's product listing.
How can we optimize and rank it so it appears in Google SERP? Do we do it the traditional way in terms of links?
Say URL is: http://www.asos.com/search/peplum-top?q=peplum+top&r=2
And we build links to it? Some of you may ask why not create a dedicated page for this, the reason being we'd have too many categories if we were to create one for each.
Thoughts?

Hi Edmond,
If you are going to use "search results" pages as good landing pages, they need to be made useful and high-quality enough that Google has no problem ranking them.
To keep using ASOS as an example, this URL ranks very well in the UK for [black dresses]: http://www.asos.com/Women/Dresses/Little-Black-Dresses/Cat/pgecategory.aspx?cid=9419
Using the site's internal search, this page appears if I search asos.com itself for [black dresses]: http://www.asos.com/search/black-dresses?hrd=1&q=black+dresses
There is little difference in the pages, but one sits beneath a folder structure, is linked to, includes a description and has a slightly better optimised title tag. But most importantly, the search results page is excluded via the site's robots.txt whilst the similar landing page is not - http://www.asos.com/robots.txt
For sites without the authority of Asos, I'd say you'd need slightly more than Asos' short black dress description, but in truth this is a search result page by any other name that has been made into a well-ranked landing page.
You see the same thing as you go down the SERP, e.g. http://www.debenhams.com/women/dresses/little-black-dresses versus http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Navigate?langId=-1&storeId=10701&catalogId=10001&txt=black+dresses
I hope this helps.

Thank you for responding Keri.
So what do you think is the best to tackle this problem? Create dedicated unique page for all those terms and optimize it the way we do all the time?
Thanks

Keep in mind that Google generally does not want to include search results in their search results.

Yes. Think of it like another page on your website, and optimize it in the same way. Make sure that it is a useful page, and that it has all the on page elements in place. The biggest issues is going to be duplicate content so, use some programming magic to make sure that you are not creating duplicate content. Then build some internal and external links to it. Just keep taking steps to optimize it in the right way and someday it might rank for you!

My url disappeared from Google but Search Console shows indexed. This url has been indexed for more than a year. Please help!
Super weird problem that I can't solve for last 5 hours. One of my urls: https://www.dcacar.com/lax-car-service.html Has been indexed for more than a year and also has an AMP version, few hours ago I realized that it had disappeared from serps. We were ranking on page 1 for several key terms. When I perform a search "site:dcacar.com " the url is no where to be found on all 5 pages. But when I check my Google Console it shows as indexed I requested to index again but nothing changed. All other 50 or so urls are not effected at all, this is the only url that has gone missing can someone solve this mystery for me please. Thanks a lot in advance.

Indexed Pages Different when I perform a "site:Google.com" site search - why?
My client has an ecommerce website with approx. 300,000 URLs (a lot of these are parameters blocked by the spiders thru meta robots tag). There are 9,000 "true" URLs being submitted to Google Search Console, Google says they are indexing 8,000 of them. Here's the weird part - When I do a "site:website" function search in Google, it says Google is indexing 2.2 million pages on the URL, but I am unable to view past page 14 of the SERPs. It just stops showing results and I don't even get a "the next results are duplicate results" message." What is happening? Why does Google say they are indexing 2.2 million URLs, but then won't show me more than 140 pages they are indexing? Thank you so much for your help, I tried looking for the answer and I know this is the best place to ask!

Back in August of 2013 Google created a form that allowed people to submit small websites that "should be ranking better in Google". There is more info about it in this article http://www.seroundtable.com/google-small-site-survey-17295.html Has anybody used it? Any experiences or results you can share? *private message if you do not want to share publicly...

Google local pointing to Google plus page not homepage
Today my clients homepage dropped off the search results page (was #1 for months, in the top for years). I noticed in the places account everything is suddenly pointing at the Google plus page? The interior pages are still ranking. Any insight would be very helpful! Thanks.

Adding video snippet caused drop of star rating snippet in google SERP. Any solution to show both?
We are using on our product pages review schema markup which showed up well in google SERP. Now we added schema video markup as well and google shows in SERP now only the video snippet, but not the review snippet anymore. Any idea whether there may be a solution to show both video and review snippets?

301 Re-Directs Puzzling Question on Page Returned in Search Results
On our website, www.BusinessBroker.net, we have 3 different versions of essentially the same page for each of our State Business for Sale Pages. Back in August, we did a test and did 301 redirects using 5 States. For a long while after doing the redirects, the pages fell out of Google search results - we used to get page 1 rankings. Just recently they started popping back up on Page 1. However, I noticed that the new page meta data is not what is being picked up -- here is the example. Keyword Searched for in Google -- "Maine Business for Sale" Our listing shows up on Page 1 -- # 8 Result URL returned is correct preferred version: - http://www.businessbroker.net/state/maine-Businesses_For_Sale.aspx However, the Page Title on this returned page is still the OLD page title - OLD TITLE -- maine Business for Sale Ads - maine Businesses for Sale & Business Brokers - Sell a Business on Business Broker Not the title that is designated for this page - New Title - Maine Businesses for Sale - Buy or Sell a Business in ME | BusinessBroker.net Ditto for Meta Description. Why is this happening? Also have a problem with lower case showing up rather than upper case -- what's causing this? http://www.businessbroker.net/state/maine-Businesses_For_Sale.aspx versus -- http://www.businessbroker.net/State/Maine-Businesses_For_Sale.aspx Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, MM

Why do SERP Results ( Rankings ) differ from country to country ?
Hi, I have been doing seo for this client based in Sri lanka for almost 8 months now. Since we started SEO we had set up geographic target setting to UK through google webmaster tools. At the moment Site is completely ranking higher on google uk & other countries except Sri Lanka . On Google.lk site doesn't even come within 1st 5 pages for keywords which are ranked on1st page in other countries ? What do you think about this ? How does it happen ?

Duplicate Content issue on pages with Authority and decent SERP results
Hi, I'm not sure what the best thing to do here is. I've got quite a few duplicate page errors in my campaign. I must admit the pages were originally built just to rank a keyword variation. e.g. Main page keyword is [Widget in City] the "duplicate" page is [Black Widget in City] I guess the normal route to deal with duplicate pages is to add a canonical tag and do a 304 redirect yea? Well these pages have some page Authority and are ranking quite well for their exact keywords, what do I do?
