Blocking Pages E-Commerce Site
-
Hello,
I am working on a site with 1,000's of product pages, some of which do not have inventory in them. Should be blocking these pages in order to reduce bouce rate? How could i manage so many pages efficiently? It would takes weeks to comb through pages to determine which have inventory and which do not. They are also time sensitive as they are live events so dates are always changing.
Thanks!

I think I have found something that will help you. This claims to be able to control your inventory automatically that would alleviate need for you to pull pages and more hassle. I hope this helps.

Ps Google will have cached the site so people will still think you sell the product even if you block it when your out of stock.

I would not promote not in stock but coming soon maybe? Or you can list the true time it would take to order the products even if it's 3 weeks people will still buy if you can say this will be shipped when in stock that way you are covered. You can ask the mfg when it will be in and just list that. I would get a developer to make it so you know when stock # whatever is out then auto switch the txt to say the real ship date. All the best, Tom

What I was thinking of doing is have a "Not in Stock" but sign up for our newsletter when they become available option. This way they do not bounce back out and move forward on the site.

- simply put I am dealing with something similar with woocommerce that you what I something you might not have the option to spend on the platform we're using to do if something is not in stock I can keep a giant thing that says not in stock or what most people do is wait for it to become stock ready so place the shipping days on the description. Or simply block it out with rules meeting I have a plug-in that allows me to not show the item if I cannot sell it. Does that make sense? I like WordPress for e-commerce I know a lot of people will probably say that they don't however I believe woocommerce is pretty amazing.

Robots.txt Question for E-Commerce Sites
Hi All, I have a couple of e-commerce clients and have a question about URLs. When you perform a search on website all URLs contain a question mark, for example: /filter.aspx?search=blackout I'm not sure that I want these indexed. Could I be causing any harm/danger if I add this to the robots.txt file? /*? Any suggestions welcome! Gavin

I'm looking to put a quite length FAQs tab on product pages on an ecommerce site. Am I likely to have duplicate content issues?
On an ecommerce site we have unique content on the product pages (i.e. descriptions), as well as the usual delivery and returns tabs for customer convenience. From this we haven't had any duplicate content issues or warnings, which seems to be the case industry-wide. However, we're looking to add a more lengthy FAQs tab which is still highly relevant to the customer but contains a lot more text than the other tabs. The product descriptions are also relatively small. Do you think this will cause potential duplicate content issues or should it be treated the same as a delivery tab, for instance?

No index parts of a page?
Little bit of an odd question this, but how would one go about getting Google to not index certain content on a page? I'm developing an online store for a client and for a few of the products they will be stocking they will be using the manufacturers specs and descriptions. These descriptions and specs, therefore, will not be unique as they will be also used by a number of other websites. The title tag, onpage h1 etc will be fine for the seo of the actual pages (with backlinks, of course) so the impact of google not counting the description should be slight. I'm sure this can be done but for the life of me I cannot remember how. Thanks Carl

Page Indexing
Hello All Nice easy question! I've made some on page changes to page titles, content, H1s etc but wanted to know if there was a way to check if Google has reindexed the page since the changes were made? I appreciate the different factors that will help improve your crawl rate like new content, external links, domain authority etc. I made these changes around 2 weeks ago. Google has cached the pages since I made the changes but not picked up on the new page titles in the search results. Cheers Todd
