Rel Conical - Mobile page
-
I have two pages that have essentially the same content, same page title etc. however one is the mobile version of the other. Is it appropriate to use the rel canonical tag with these two pages?
So the pages are:
www.example.com/mobile/product
If rel canonical is not appropriate what, if anything should I do?

Hi Conor,
First off you may find this video from Matt Cutts helpful, he mentioned about blocking the Google mobile bot from your none mobile site. You can also use the rel=alternative and canonical the mobile to the desktop version. you may find this page super helpful -
https://developers.google.com/webmasters/smartphone-sites/details#separateurls
Annotation in the HTML
On the desktop page, add:
<code><link< span="">rel="alternate"media="only screen and (max-width: 640px)" href="http://m.example.com/page-1"></link<></code>
and on the mobile page, the required annotation should be:
<code><link< span="">rel="canonical"href="http://www.example.com/page-1"></link<></code>
This rel="canonical" tag on the mobile URL pointing to the desktop page is required.
The canonical tag only affect search engines and won't affect users so if you're sharing the same content canonical to the desktop. You may find having a URL structure like m.example.com/product better for organizing the two sites.
Hope that helps.
good luck!

Hi Conor,
If visitors are correctly redirected to the mobile page already, you don't really need to do anything else. If there is a rule that takes someone to the mobile site (when on a mobile platform), that is pretty much all you need to do. Sticking a canonical tag in there will confuse issues.

Is a particular page not ranking for any reason?
I posted about the Google WEbmaster tools Structured Data set up in this thread here: http://moz.com/community/q/using-google-structured-data-for-seo-benefit Just a follow up question (or separate)... would having a lot of products with marked up data (via webmaster tools and not on page) hurt SEO rankings? I have not got any warning/notice etc in Google Webmaster tools about it. Search term 'buy isagenix' on Google Australia Product listing page not in top 50

Hello, I'd like to know what happens when you use canonical to the same page itself, like: Page "example.com" rel canonical="example.com" Does that impact in something? Bad or good? See ya!

Blog page outranks static page for KW -- why?
Blog page ranks 10 in Google, while the static page is on page 7. What makes it more interesting is that the blog page scores an "F" with the Term Target tool while the static page scores an "A". Static page has more inbound links and a mR/mT of 3.89/ 4.54 vs. 3.71/ 4.14 for the blog page. Any ideas on how to approach this one?

Do product pages need unique content or does having duplcate content hurt on those pages?
We are adding product rapidly to our website but this requires allowing duplicate to exist on our product pages of furniture-online.com. From an SEO standpoint do we need to make this content unique for each product. Since we aren't link building to specific product pages and we don't anticipate product pages being found in a search result, are we ok leaving the duplicate content in place and spending our dollars elsewhere?

Canonical tag for home page
This question was asked before but I didn't see a clear answer to it. If I've got a site that has as it's home page: http://www.mysite.com/, and there are many references within the site back to the home page that point to /index.php, should I include a canonical tag in the index.php page like this: to avoid a duplicate content issue, and to have all juice from both links combined into one?
