Page Rank Sculpting
-
Just a thought.
With the way pagerank works and passing link juice evenly across all your links. Would it make sense to structure your site so that each page passes your all your link juice from lets say your homepage to another page. Then that page would contain all the link juice from the homepage. Then do the same thing with the next pages. For instance
Homepage - linkjuice 10
- link1 - follow
- link2 rel=nofollow
- link3 rel=nofollow
- link4 rel=nofollow
- link5 rel=nofollow
Link1 - linkjuice 10
- link1 rel=nofollow
- link2 - follow
- link3 rel=nofollow
- link4 rel=nofollow
- link5 rel=nofollow
Link2 - linkjuice 10
- link1 rel=nofollow
- link2 rel-nofollow
- link3 - follow
- link4 rel=nofollow
- link5 rel=nofollow
Link3 - linkjuice 10
- link1 rel=nofollow
- link2 rel-nofollow
- link3 rel=nofollow
- link4 - follow
- link5 rel=nofollow
Link4 - linkjuice 10
- link1 rel=nofollow
- link2 rel-nofollow
- link3 rel=nofollow
- link4 rel=nofollow
- link5 - follow
and so on.
Theoretically would'nt this help pass a ton if not all of link juice to your main links? Sorry if this is a dumb question, it's late and sometimes my mind goes places

This is an example of how google will change their mind without tellin'
When nofollow first came out Matt Cutts said that it could be used to "sculpt" pagerank. Some people started to use it that way. Then, years later, Google said that they had changed their mind about this quite a while ago and that they had been evaporating the pagerank flowing into nofollow links.
So, just because you hear google say something today. Don't count on that working tomorrow.
Bottom line, do stuff because you think it will be GOOD FOR THE VISITORS ON YOUR WEBSITE.
Lots of the links that people have built in the past have negative value today.... lots of the crap content that people created in the past has negative value today... Those folks should have been building things that are good for their visitors instead of building contraptions to fool google. You might fool google today but down the road it will hit you in the ass.

As Mat says, the nofollow links are still allocated a share of the "link juice" and then it's just discarded. So in your example above you'd be throwing away 8 points and passing only 2 down to your first link!
So, if you want to pass more link equity to the pages you really want to rank you may want to remove some links that don't really matter. (For example combining your privacy policy / terms and conditions / legal pages into one...)

Not a dumb question at all. There was a "fashion" for this for a while. Unfortunately it was really obvious manipulation, so things were changed to make it ineffective. Now the pagerank that would have passed down those no-follow links just dissipates.
That means that "sculpting" is now more about removing unwanted links and ensuring good structure.

Links to deep pages good for Homepage ranking?
Hello Moz community. My question today is: if I got great backlinks with anchor text "abc" coming to a deep resource page in my site, will these links help my homepage rank for keyword "xyz"? In other words, are all links (regarless of anchor text) coming to a site helpful for the homepage to rank for its main keyword? Thanks.

Number of pages to target per Keyword
Hello, I Want Help my company with our webpage we are "manufacturers" and "wholesale Suppliers" our products are "Transponder Keys", "Automotive Door Locks". On my keyword research on Adwords I Found "Transponder Key" = 1600 Exact Global Searches so, long tail Keywords like "Transponder Key Manufacturer" have less Searches but are less competitive. I´m trying to Target "Transponder Key Manufacturer""Transponder Key Supplier"

"Transponder Key" Main Question, when you do SEO for webpage, all your seo campaign goes for 1 webpage, example www.example.com/new_seo_content.html or one page for groups of similar keywords like Transponder key, transponder key manufacturer, transponder key supplier0 -
Ranking for multiple cities
My current method is creating a post/page for each city a client wishes to rank for with unique content. Is this really the best way? Is it best practice? If not. What is?

Why is my homepage ranking BELOW a subpage?
Search "peer to peer lending". The page http://www.ratesetter.com/peer_to_peer_lending.htm appears higher than the homepage. I don't think this is because of keyword density on page either as Zopa (competitor) have zero mentions of this keyword on their homepage. What are your suggestions for getting the homepage ranked higher? Thanks, Simon.

Are Links/Resources pages considered spam?
I'm dabbling with link building in a non link-happy industry, traffic safety (IE Traffic cones, barricades, safety vests, etc...). We currently are doing #RCS in terms of giveaways for college students as well as discounts in a wider EDU Outreach campaign as well as legitimate guest posting. I have started to use Link Prospector, and got a list of links/resources pages that we can get info from. I found some great links through here, including ways to get links from higher-profile .gov domains, but was wondering if it is worth it to go after the high(er) quality links/resources pages. By higher quality, I usually set a floor of a DA 25-30 and have a limited amount of external links per page. These would be for branded keywords (IE the company name/domain) and not exact match anchor text. I'd really like to see how other SEOs feel about this. Link Baiting ineffective for money pages
I am thinking of creating link baits such as infographic for my site. Problem is, link baits only serve to bait links towards those link baiting pages isn't it? It doesn't actually help in improving the SERP of my money pages within the site (which have content that doesn't bait links). Yes I do know however, it will help in the site authority which might ultimately improve the SERP of my money pages, but it is all too ineffective and far fetched is it?

PPC Landing pages and SEO landing pages query
We do a fair amount of work on PPC and because of this a lot of our PPC landing pages also do quite well in SEO. We are thinking that the landing pages do well because they get a lot of traffic from PPC and therefore, maybe google can index and take note of these pages quicker? The pages that usually shoot right up the rankings are new pages used for long tailed keywords. So I have a few questions: Does the traffic from PPC actually have any effect on SEO rankings? If we were to create a page that was to act solely as an SEO landing page, would google take note if there was no traffic? Would simply linking from our main site to the landing page be enough to give it a bit of authority, in which we can build upon? Thanks in advance.
