We have been adding our company (Townscript) name in all the page titles.

For example, in an event page of Lucknow Conclave: www.townscript.com/lucknowconclave the page title is Lucknow Conclave | Alexis Society | Townscript I read somewhere that it's not necessary to put your company's name in the title tag. Is it right?

      Please help!

Thanks for your reply! True! In the next update we are removing the company's name as we need to restrict the title tag to 70 characters.

        Thank you all!

Use the title for something better, something more descriptive (wow just think of all that extra space!).

Absolutely.   I don't have space in my title tags for the domain.  They are going to see the domain below the title in most search engine SERPs.

I am for adding the company name at the end. If a person is searching for a brand or company, you should have more than a few places where that name or brand is mentioned.

I understand that branding involves much more than this, but due to how the site is set up, I don't see anything wrong with it. You are not extending your title past the character count, not putting your name at the beginning of the title, etc. The page titles are already very short, so I see no harm in it.

With is being so easy to rip off anothers brand name with a domain or URL, I personally agree with using using a company name in the page title, unless your company name is extremely long, and jeopardizes the character count displayed.

            Then, there is always this:
            http://searchengineland.com/quantifying-brand-bias-search-results-rand-fishkin-moz-189824

I'm sure some will disagree with me, but that's what makes the internet such a great place. Being able to agree to disagree 🙂

to add to what Dean said, think about how that title looks in the SURPs,  what would improve its click rate?

Using your company name in the title tag isn't (generally) done with the intention of ranking for it. If you can't rank for your brand name, you've got bigger issues to deal with.

Adding the company name to a title tag is more for brand awareness. If people know your brand, it reinforces that they're in the right place. If you're not as well known, it gets that awareness going in the consumer's mind.

Think of it this way if you already rank for 'Townscript' with the domain name being a match. Why would you need to use this word throughout the whole site titles. I would recommend using it on some generic pages such as 'About Townscript' etc.

Use the title for something better, something more descriptive (wow just think of all that extra space!).

Site name in page title - leave it or remove it?

Hi all, Recently came across some authority blog (quicksprout to be precise) which stated that apart from main page, contact page, about us and some other generic pages, site name should be removed as it might produce duplicate content. example "How to blog | Example Site name" This mostly is the issue with tags and categories pages as it shows on Moz issues. Is that really a problem and site name should be taken off them? Thank you.

Using a hyphen in title tags and the impact of spaces

Hi I am trying to arrive at a best practice template for a title tag for my organization so does the following template still holds Primary Keyword - Secondary Keyword | Brand Name will anything be impacted  if I eliminate the spaces between the hyphen, will search bots be still able to treat the first one as a priority and the second as the secondary? Primary Keyword-Secondary Keyword | Brand Name thank you

Multiple H1 tags on Squarespace blog page?

Hi All, I use Squarespace and while running my site (https://www.growmassagebusiness.com) through programs am seeing that my blog posts are being seen as one page with multiple H1 tags. I read through the SS help desk and found back in 2015 someone wrote that it's not a bit deal b/c of HTML5 and that the search engines will read each blog post as a sub-page. I'm not so sure about that and wondering what the experts think? If that is screwy then I'm considering possibly making each blog post it's own page rather than using their blog posting format.

                    Page Title versus H1 title

What's the difference between the Page Title and the H1 title? It seems like both summarize the page. Is it a wasted opportunity to make them the same? Should they be similar but slightly different?

Is it better to include the secondary keyword or site name in a title tag?

When I add a site name to my title tag with long-tailed primary and secondary keywords the title tag is longer than 70 characters. I need to include all three parts, so what should I do? At 70 characters the site name is usually partially cut off. I do not want to get penalized by Google, but I need to include the site name to have consistency. I am using the format Primary Keyword-Secondary Keyword | Site name

Changing page titles and google penalties?

I just recently learned that changing your page title earns you a google penalty.  Unfortunately i learned this after playing around with my page titles a bit to get the most optimal page titles.  Does anybody know how long this google penalty lasts? is it forever? or just temporary?

Post Title - Use the blog's name or not?

In the tile of my post, shoudl I used my blog's name in it at the end or emit the blog name. EX: title of post with keywords | name of blog OR EX: title of post with keywords The site's name is 3 words long, so I'm worrying that those extra words are diluting the keywords in the post's name that I'm trying to target.
