What Are Latest Internal Linking Strategies?
-
I have been doing a little research, but all the articles are really old. Even the Moz site page is pretty old.
So I am wondering, has the strategy changed? Is it OK to still use internal links with your keywords in them? Do you have multiple links on a page? What about a blog post? Do you no follow?
What are the thoughts out there on this?

Hi,
Just saw this article and recalled your question. Using exact match for internal linking is still ok; however, it's true only if you use it occasionally. If it's over used, it's still bad for SEO as you can get over optimized penalty. I guess the best is to mix and match and do some co citation/co occurrence with long tail keywords.

Thank you!

Yes, that makes sense. It doesn't appear that the google algorithms are penalizing for keyword anchor text on internal links unless you way overdue it and turn your site into a spamfest.

Hi Tommy,
Looking at your links, that pages deals with external links. If you read the comments, it seems Neil thinks internal links with keyword anchor text is still ok.

Hi,
Some of the old Internal Linking practices still apply. You should still continue to link internally to pass on page ranks and continue to link to deeper pages within your site. However, there are some updates on the anchor text you use to internal link or even linking to external sites.
Optimized Anchor Texts were targeted by Penguin 3.0 or whatever numbering system some people use. Using exact match keywords or any keyword rich anchor text are pretty much dangerous to use or any sort of anchor text optimization. One of the update is to link naturally or relevant keywords as anchor text to avoid being hit.
Here is an article from Quick Sprout on Penguin 3.0 update that talked about Anchor Text http://www.quicksprout.com/2014/05/14/how-to-avoid-getting-slaughtered-by-penguin-3-0/
Hope this helps.

Use your links in a fashion that allows users to spend more time on the site. The more a site is seen as a positive resource of information, the better it will succeed for users and ranking. These can be both keyword and broad match.
Example one: You can use this tool to find out more about keyword research.
Example two: XYZ company has created a keyword research tool to help find relevant keywords.
(Bold text above would be links) We have found it successful to link as if you were speaking to a live person. As you touch on certain subjects or points of interest, use those opportunities to offer additional information as links.

Huge problem : All our Internal Links Dropped from 9.000 to 0.What happened?
Hi, I just noticed a huge large problem in our rankings. Our rankings suddenly dropped for more than 50 %. Of course, I immediately started to research the issue. And under Links, I found that we somehow lost all of our internal links! They have dropped from 9k to 0. Now, I am sure that we do have some internal links on our site ( since I put them there myself). Could you please tell me what is going on and how I can fix this issue? Our site is 1solarsolution.com and I will also attach screenshots bellow from Link Explorer, thank you. Fr08UGe

Best SEO Strategy
Hi fellow Mozers: I have a question about strategy. I have a client who is a major real estate developer in our region. They build and sell condominiums and also built and manage several major rental apartments. All rental properties have their own websites and there is also a corporate website, which has been around for many years and has decent domain authority (+/- 40). The original intent of the corporate website was to communicate central brand positioning points, attract investors and offer individual profiles of all major properties. My client is interested in developing an organic search strategy which will reach consumers looking to rent apartments. Typical search strings would include the family whose core string would be 'apartments in Baltimore.' (Currently, the client runs PPC for each one of their properties. This is expensive and highly competitive.) In doing research, we've found that there are two local competitors who are able to break on to Page 1 and appear beside the National 'apartment search guides' who dominate the Page 1 SERPS (like apartments.com). The two local competitors have websites of either the same or lower authority than our client's; one has a better link profile, the other is comparable. Here's our problem: our local competitors only build and manage apartments. So, then, the home pages and all the content of their sites ONLY talk about apartment rental related information. Our client's apartment business is actually larger in scope than either local competitor but is only one of their major real estate verticals. So my question is this: if we want to build out a bunch of content which will rank competitively with our local competition, are we better off creating a new area of the corporate site, creating targeted content and resources appropriate for apartment seekers OR would we be better off creating an entirely new site, just devoted to the same? I'm wondering if a new section will ever rank well against competitors whose root domains actually feature content which is only rental related? Likewise, I'm wondering whether we'd be giving up too much, in terms of authority, by creating an entirely new site? I've also only found examples in the industry where an entirely new site was created, so it makes me question the strategy of building out a rental-specific section of a site which also contains information about their condo business. For instance, the Related Companies are a huge builder in the East; they have a corporate site and a site called https//relatedrentals.com . Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Do banners pass link juice
Hello there, If we place an animated gif banner on a website will this pass link juice in the same way as if we just had a link? Obviously the website would need to be "Follow" Thanks Robert

Is link disavow becoming a necessary defensive strategy?
We have a large site which attracts a massive amount of link spam on a continual basis. I'm talking thousands of links every day. The reason we get so much spam linking to us is that we are an authority site in a highly spammed vertical. So, to avoid falling foul of Penguin are we fast coming to a point where sites have to constantly monitor their link profiles and disavow anything that looks remotely dodgy?

What url should i link to?
Hi everybody, after some discussions i decided to keep my page on the old domain for better seo rankings; However, the new third level domain sounds better: poltronafraubrescia.zenucchi.it.... the question is: i'm going to recive a high value link and i don't know if i should link directly to the old adress ( www.zenucchi.it/ITA/poltrona-frau-brescia.it ) where the page is located or to the new one by making a 301 redirect to the previous. what's best? and second question what's the way to keep the page on this adress ( www.zenucchi.it/ITA/poltrona-frau-brescia.it ) but show poltronafraubrescia.zenucchi.it as url? thank you guido

Link to domain
Let's say i want to rank for rental car service and purchases a domain rental-car-service and creates a site http://www.rental-car-service.com There will be few persons who won't use anchor text to link to the site, but will simply link using URL ( in this case http://www.rental-car-service.com ) So, will a link to http://www.rental-car-service.com from another site using http://www.rental-car-service.com as anchor text help the keyword rental car service ?

Strategies in Renaming URLs
We're renaming all of our Product URLs (because we're changing eCommerce Platforms), and I'm trying to determine the best strategy to take. Currently, they are all based on product SKUs. For example, Bacon Dental Floss is: http://www.stupid.com/fun/BFLS.html Right now, I'm thinking of just using the Product name. For example, Bacon Dental Floss would become: http://www.stupid.com/fun/bacon-dental-floss.html Is this strategy the best for SEO? Any better ideas? Thanks!
