One question about the domain choice.
-
Hi guys, I'm an Italian Web marketing and I'm studying SEO since some moths.
First, sorry for my bad english....
Second, the question:
My Italian blog is going really GREAT in terms of popularity and incomes and know I want to bring it in english language with the help of a professional translator.
The choice that I have to take is about the future domain of the english blog. My Italian blog has as url mynameandmysurname.net
I don't really like to make the english blog appears like myitalianblogurl.net/english because I think it's a little bit confusing and not professional.
I have also thought the idea to make a sub domain like blog.myitalianurl.net.
What about the WPML plugin? Do you think it's a great choice? I don't like it because it's confusing and it affect my italian blog.
Or maybe is it better to create a new branded blog with different domain? It can be an idea but I think that If I chose this way I will lose all my seo efforts of the last years

No. Do it from the English version form or email me at italiaseo at gmail dot com

Hi Gianluca!
I have written you through the form of your italian seo blog. Did u get it?
-
Ciao Dario,
first of all everything said by Samuel is correct.
Said that, I would not care that much about the domain name being your own name. All the contrary! Use it for improving your personal brand: it doesn't exist a better way to make remember your name to other marketers than having it in the domain itself.
Related to what multi-language option, I consider that the subfolder one should be the best. With WPML combined with WordPress SEO by Yoast you can optimize all the SEO factors also for the /en/ subfolders.
Using the subfolder option will help the English version gaining some link equity from the Italian version, hence starting appearing for not too competitive queries.
Said that, you should start putting in action a good inbound strategy in order to outreach other sites and, especially, others mid to high influencing experts in your niche, so to create bonds and co-marketing opportunity.
Again, work on your personal brand... which means being very active on social. And, remember, social is not just Social Networks. It is also being proactive in communities (blogs and forums) and helpful (i.e.: answering questions in Quora).

First, if you're Italian and have international SEO questions, there's no one better to ask than Gianluca Fiorelli.
But here are some helpful links. First, review this page of introductory guidelines and the related links. Some more detail from Google. A Webmaster Support question. For a checklist type of guide, I'd suggest this post by Moz Associate Aleyda SolĂs.
Basically, you want to 1.) put the English-language version on either a subdomain or a subdirectory; 2.) insert the appropriate language markup on both the Italian and English versions of pages; and 3.) if applicable, change any target settings for each domain/directory in Google Webmaster Tools.
Good luck!

.htaccess Question and Ranking
I have some basic rules set up in my .htaccess file and just curious as to the implications of them as I seem to have a website ranking very low on Search indexes for no particular reason that I can fathom. My question is a follows I have a htaccess rules set up in my application application that first strips the file suffix and then adds a closing brace for example Rule 1:Â http://www.domain.com/my_page.php becomes http://www.domain.com/my_page

Rule 2: http://www.domain.com/my_page becomes http://www.domain.com/my_page/ Will this rule expecially Rule 2 effect ranking or will these rule have no adverse affect on the website as my MOZ reports still seem to have pages listed win the Top Pages by PA section without the www? Below is an example of the htacess file. RewriteEngine On Redirect Trailing Slashes... RewriteRule ^(.*)/$ /$1 [L,R=301] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} /+[^.]+$
 RewriteRule ^(.+[^/])$ %{REQUEST_URI}/ [R=301,L] Redirect non-WWW to WWW... RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^contractor-accounts.co.uk [NC]
 RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.contractor-accounts.co.uk/$1 [L,R=301] Handle Front Controller... RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
 RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
 RewriteRule ^ index.php [L]0 -
Domain authority decreased but rankings increased
Hello! I'm a bit confused. Â It seems the industry as a whole that my company operates in has taken a bash from the update a few days ago as all of the competitiors have taken a hit to their domain authority. Â What is confusing is that my websites rankings have increased as well. There has been a change to the robots.txt file in an effort to stop being crawled by SEMRush which is messing with my site stats but that is the only change. Thanks in advance, Ben

.com vs .co.uk domain
I have a client who has a site live at example**.co.uk** and would like to rank for the term "example". But example**.com** is owned by another company who offers a different product and service and has been live since 2003. I know that I can make example**.co.uk** rank for keywords related to their service but I think it's going to be a struggle to get them to rank for the brand term "example" as the .com site already owns Page 1 with their domain name, Facebook page, Wiki page etc etc. The only variation is that example**.com** is a US based company and my client want to ranks in the UK only. What are the chances I can out rank example**.com** for the brand term on www.google.co.uk if example**.com** currently owns Page 1 on google**.co.uk**?

Google showing my content on the serps in a different domain
Hi all, Recently a partner of ours discovered that Google is showing a meta description on the serps for his homepage that is not his but ours. On his site, he sells add-ons for our software, so the name of our software appears many times and as well there are many links pointing to our site. He claims he hasn´t copied this text from us, and I have used some tools to verify this. I don´t understand how Google can get confused and show our text as the meta desctiption on the serps for his homepage. Any idea on why this happened?

The actual title tag is different from the one showing in SEOmoz
Hello all I was looking at the crawling report for my project, I have noticed that there are so many duplicate titles in the "Duplicate Page Title" report, I checked the title tag for one of the titles (for this page) manually (in the page code), and it was showing like this: <title></span><span>Interviews | TechSparks</span><span></title> where it's showing in the "Duplicate Page Title" report like this: Interviews | TechSparksEasyRotator Preview Hovering over the tab in the browser shows the title as I mentioned first, and searching Google for this page shows the title like the first one I mentioned too. Do you any clue why that is happening? fUbtXe6 fUbtXe6.png

Questions About My Report
Hi, I have a website that aggregates NFL analysis (not news). Â I write 3-5 line summaries about each article I link, so there is a pretty good amount of daily content. Â Here's the site: http://www.profootballhotreads.com/ After I received my initial report, there were several issues, and I just wanted to get some thoughts on them. Â Some of these might be related to the aggregate nature, some might be not a concern, but I want to know which ones I should really worry about. Too many links. Â My main page is a continuously running scroll of links, so obviously this is going to be tough to accommodate. Â I know this makes each link less "valuable," but does it actually affect my site in any way? Â I don't really have links to my site on the page other than in the menu, which I assume would be scrolled first. meta description on tag pages. Â For site design reasons, I have several "pages" that are actually tag collection pages rather than unique pages. Â For example, each team's page is simply a collection of anything tagged with that team. Â So, I don't know if I can provide a meta description for those pages without making that the default meta description for any post with that tag. I supposedly have tons of duplicate pages but when I go to those pages, I don't see it. Â Webmasters said I only had one duplicate. Â Not sure what's going on. Â I'm thinking anytime I update a post, it is reading it as two different posts even though only one post exists at a time on the site. I have tons of duplicate page titles. Â Basically, I have tons of pages on my main page because after a certain amount of posts, it goes to a "new" page, even though it's just a continuation. Â So, I have Main page 1, Main Page 2, etc with the same title and meta descriptions. Â I don't think this is a concern, is it? Thanks for anyone who might be able to help. Â Let me know if there are more questions. Jason

Can Page Authority of a site be higher than its Domain Authority?
I own a website called Takeyourtips.com. While doing a search no Google, I found that the page authority of the home page (31) is higher than the domain authority (23). I was wondering if it's really possible because my understanding was page authority of a page is determined by its domain authority. Therefore, it the domain authority of a website is 23, none of its page could have a higher page authority. Plus, upon consulting an SEO expert, I was told that neither Domain Authority or Page Authority of a page carries any importance as far as higher ranking of a website is concerned. Is this true? Thanks in advance for the answers. Cheers, Sushant large

Value of Domain Names
Hello, I have an ecommerce site that sells personalized gifts. Â I am wondering about the value of purchasing domain names for specific products and have them point to a landing page. Â For example: the domain name personalizediphonecases.com would point to my page of that product. Â Is that a good idea? Thank you!
