Discrepancies between Mozbar data and OSE?
-
Hey everyone,
I've been doing some research into keyword competition, and i've come across a few instances where the data that Mozbar provides differs pretty greatly from what open site explorer is telling me.
An example:
For this site: http://www.bcwsupplies.com
When I have it returned in the serps, Mozbar is telling me there are 21,306 links & 218 linking root domains.
But, when I check the backlink profile via OSE, it's only showing 3,020 links & 88 root domains.
Can anyone shed some insight into this?
Thanks!

Thanks for getting back on that Abe.
So OSE only ever displays the metrics for that page?
IE. If I enter the root domain: http://test.com, OSE is only going to give me the link metrics for the home page itself, and not the domain?
Thanks again for the clarification!

Thanks for reaching out to us! I will attempt to clarify the differences between the two. OSE shows that specific page's link metrics at the top where you are seeing those numbers under "Page Link Metrics" (in this case, the home page for that domain). Mozbar shows the metrics for that entire domain, which is not something we display in the information at that top area of OSE.
To get information on the links Mozbar is finding, you can export the CSV from OSE and make sure to include 'All links from the entire root domain" from the drop down options before exporting that report. This will show you 25 links per domain, giving you much more information then you are seeing in the top display metrics of OSE. I hope this helps!

I'm not in a position at the moment to take a deep look at this, but our help desk will be taking a look at getting back to you. Thanks for your patience!

Thanks for the response Keri,
Unfortunately that's not the case here, the non-www version is actually only showing 35 total links.

The most common cause for this is that OSE and MozBar are looking at different versions of the site -- one with www, one without. Could this be the case for you?

No backlinks reporting in MOZ OSE?
We have a bunch of links and none of them report in MOZ OSE. Does the MOZ OSE tool have a cache that takes a while to refresh? We have recently moved over to CloudFlare and since the move the numbers do not add up. Here is a link to a ahrefs screenshot. Any insights would be greatly appreciated. moz.png

OSE: Missing back-links and High DA website with low DA backlinks
I have gone through a website with 81 DA; where its link equity back-links with highest DA of 70. Hardly 5 back-links 60 to 70 DA and just 25 root domains. This seems very unusual to me. Can someone clarify this for me? Can a website with low DA back-links can make high DA? If so what could be other major contributing factors for this?

Loving the new OSE integration!
Finally, OSE is now like "integrated" in Moz! And it looks awesome. Not only from a design perspective, but also, I think all the login issues in that past I was having are now solved! Nicely done Moz!

Expired domains and OSE?
If a domain expires will it remain in OSE indefinitely and show external backlinks? Or at some point does the domain get removed from OSE?
